jeebus, solo bar gigs are teh death. i played three sets tonight in a bar in the sticks. cool enough place, but it’s just not set up that well for music, and there’s not a lot of people. and i’m not as effective solo IMO, so there’s that. shit, that was hard work!

I think if had the addition of Colleen, the turnout would have been better?

lol, right? playing w/Colleen & Justin, and John on drums at Sally O’Brien’s in Somerville this Friday btw fwiw f’na yo WKRP

I’m still listening to ^that show, pulling apart what went wrong on the frets and with lyrics and harmonies and stuff. Sorry if the loud patrons are a little annoying, but damn that recording ain’t half bad despite.

Here’s a song written primarily by Colleen, if I’m not mistaken, performed by Justin Colleen & I a couple years back in RI.

…I regret to report that I severly botched the “Fearless” lyrics. It was our first time playing it, and I was mistaken about having a handle on them words. I studied up & know 'em now FWIW! Also, it’s really about set one IMO … we were feeling really smooth and good.

Bold titles are original. Weirder titles are mine, normaler ones are Justin and/or Colleen’s.

Alright, here’s my band’s latest gig. One set. All originals, except for one cover (“Love Me”, Elvis Presley).

Our last bar gig was WAY too many originals. We totally got away with it. :sunglasses:

Covers denoted w/ *

Containers Are Things
Hearth Song
When She Comes

Ladies & Gentlemen of the World
Danny’s Song (*Loggins & Messina)

… I count nine outta 12 originals in set one.

Set II:
You Can Close Your Eyes (*James Taylor)
Lazybones (*Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael)
Back In Black (*AC/DC)

I count 17, w/ 11 originals.

Set III:
(jam)
One After 909 (*Beatles)
The Weight (*The Band)
The Ocean (*Led Zeppelin)

I count three covers, zero originals.

Ratio = 32 songs, 20 originals, 63% original. Not too shabby.

6/14 11 am solo gig @ car show in NK RI

Wrote out setlist, inspired by band gig two days prior. Went heavy on originals. Followed pre-written setlist to the tee once onstage.

Ladies & Gentlemen of the World
She Loves My Automobile (*ZZ Top)
Goin Up To NH Maybe Goin up to VT
Lazybones (*Mercer/Carmichael)
Song of Hopeful Encouragement
But Anyway (*Blues Traveler)
Nothing But Love
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In a Small Town (*Pearl Jam)
She Thinks I Still Care (*George Jones)
The Weirdos
Walk of Life (*Dire Straits)
Hands To Yourself (*Georgia Satellites)
Last Thing On My Mind (*Tom Paxton)
When I Paint My Masterpiece (*Bob Dylan)
Reconsider

I count fifteen tunes, six originals - 40%. Not bad I guess. Felt like a courageous ratio at the time.

Played a mid-week bar gig in Jamaica Plain, Boston. I think it was Thursday, right? 6/17 was Wednesday: it was Wednesday.

We did all originals at this gig (we’re getting cocky!), until the encore where we had this weird moment of only being able to think of two songs we know. I wonder if there’s something to that; whatever. We did Scarlet cuz we do a lot of harmonies.

It wasn’t our greatest show, but it was okay … mainly it was crazy because we did all originals. The Tavern show a few posts ago was a better listen IMO. Let me know if anyone wants that recording, that one’s cool.

At the Midway, out of 19 songs performed, we did one cover (Dead), five of my songs*, and thirteen songs by Justin &/or Colleen. Justin and I switch between guitar & bass throughout the show these days. I’m on bass for seven tunes, guitar on 12 I think it is.

12/28/2002 - I played this house party and recorded it, and afterward played this shit on their piano. Sing along if ya know it.

Nice! Sounds great. It brings back memories. Certainly was a crowd pleaser!
