i don’t think most of us actually “hate” DMB.
I like Dave Matthews in small portions. Good songs. His band’s sound is a bit cheesy sometimes but i like the Dave acoustic albums with Tim Reynolds better, and his set with Tim and Trey at Bonnaroo 2004 was definitely a highlight of my first big festival.
I think the reason you’re seeing so much “hate” is because he is just really easy to make fun of. I don’t think most of it is really all that serious.

I don’t get how so many people on this site think that Jeff Buckley is better than Tim Buckley.

I think dave matthews is amazing. I love his voice and think hes an amazing songwriter. Not just amazing but unique. I think the problem though is that he really sparks the beginning of the singer-songwriter trend that can get really annoying. The band is phenomenal and they really give it their all instrumentally and creatively. That being said they definately have their almost too cheesy to believe pop moments that make you wanna put a gun to your head and the last album was dreadful. the live at the redrocks show that was probably their first live release is probably the best and dare I say one of the best period. I dont understand how people can hate on of songs like the stone, rhyme or reason,DANCING NANCIES,the last stop, DRIVE IN DRIVE OUT,BARTENDER,recently,tripping billies, Jimi Thing and really for me the list goes on. I also love his voice even though it is odd at times he just knows how to really bring out the emotion of a song with it. They’re still not shit compared to phish though.

interest in Dave Matthews and his band.
Saw them at Rothbury last year, and he is a great performer, just not all that into his tunes.
However, the Sly cover encore “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)” was dope scope.
I remember seeing a bumber sticker that said DuMB, in the classic white oval with black letters, and thinking it was hilarious.
Why do people hate any band? It’s personal taste. Are you asking why the hate is passionate?
From my experience I run across less and less people who are die hard fans of the band, and more who like a few songs and that’s it.
I guess some folks don’t realize that jam bands are like sports teams. Part of loving yours is bashing the others!

i think most of the hate stems from how DMB often gets lumped into the Jamband category, seems like many think he should be more in the pop category
it’s the same with OAR, they are basically Jamband Lite, wattered down Jam music, most Jamband fans are very critical of the music and hence hate on things that they view as not having enough musical worth, or hate on the fact that so many people enjoy their music without knowing much about music

personally, I’ve been to one DMB show, back in 2001, it was a free ticket, I had a fun time, would i pay to see him again? nah, probably not, not unless he started charging way way less for a ticket
oh and personally i’d rather see/listen to DMB than OAR and their crazy game of poker. seriously, how fucking crazy could their game of poker gotten?

I completely agree. I also agree that Dave has to start charging less. If he cared more about the fans and less about celebrity, he would.

I LOVE Dave Mathews Band, originally discovered them when they opened up for the dead in Vegas in 95’.
