Hadn’t been commented on. I like hoist a lot.
Julius is always sick, as is DWD, If I could…
Wait a minute it’s just a great album!
SOAM!!!
Scent of a Mule, that is.
“I hate…laser beams…”
I have been listening to this album alot in resent days and it is starting to grow on me. they say that they used a different snare drum for every song and no matter how hard i listen i can’t notice a difference.
I, too, enjoy Hoist.
But it probably ranks 5th on my list of Phish albums.
When I was a newbie I couldn’t stop listening to “Sample in a Jar” and “Wolfman’s Brother”
I’m always up for a good Sample In A Jar!
Awesome album. Every song is good in it’s own right.
I have listened to this album three times between yesterday and today… Don’t know why… Haven’t listened to it in a while, and it was my first Phish hearing. I forgot how much I like “If I Could” because I have it on very few live discs… Gonna have to go searching now.
yeah this album is pretty fuckin awesome! Especially when I figured out that the bonus material on my tape was Split Open and Melt, I was walkin around with a plastered smile on my face while I heard it!
there are some classics on this album. wolfmans brother is oh so good live, really funky. i love julius, and sample in a jar is good too. i think if i could, lifeboy, maybe dog-faced boy are often overlooked. these are great songs.
^ I agree that if i could is often overlooked that is a great song.
Lifeboy is really good. Dog faced boy is good, but seems uncomplete. 2:11, seems like it’s only half done. But still good.
This album has a number of good songs on it, but it sounded over produced when it first came out. I thought Phish had sold out with the over produced album and mtv video. I was wrong of course. After seeing my first show (they were touring for this album) any ideas that they were another mtv alt band quickly disappeared.
This was my favorite album for a long time… very heavy for Phish, I like that.
^ thats what i love about this album an awesome semi-heavy song DWD segues into the ultra-light If I Could.
And Rikers Mailbox…
word
Yeah. DWD is a hearty Rocker, Sample is pretty rocking, Wolfmans is kind of funky, Axilla II is striaght up rock. Then Lifeboy and If I Could are solid soft songs. Julius is a great fun song that I think works best as a set/show/encore opener or closer. I’ve never gotten into Scent of a Mule, though.
^, GONE and forgotten…
The studio version of Axilla was the second Phish tune I ever heard.
