I like Undermind

I agree completely. For example, check out the 6/19/04 SPAC show. It gets overshadowed by the epic Piper that follows it, but the ASIHTOS from set II that night just killed. It lasted 18 1/2 minutes and it was amazing–great Kuroda lights too. Scents and Subtle Sounds was also jammed out a few times. I like it when they did that song with the “Intro” at the beginning.

I like the album, at least it’s better produced than Roundroom! I know people hated The Connection but it’s a good pop song and I love Crowd Control. I wish Army of One had become a setlist staple as a Page spotlight.

I actually like Access Me. It’s catchy

I’m one of those guys who’s been consistently disappointed since Hoist.

But I’ve tried real hard to make the best of these later albums, and to a degree it’s paid off.

Undermind is in my top 6 post-Hoist studio releases.

Seriously, I actually like both post-hiatus albums better than the last four pre-hiatus albums. They still don’t in any way represent those characteristics of Phish that I most enjoy, but … accepting them for what they are, I think Undermind is one of the better ones. I really love it.

gonads

That kid is still on the escalator, and I still don’t own Undermind.

Like it better than Round Room. Actually, I really have a hard time listening to Round Room at all.
Yep, definately like Undermined.
So there! :problem:

What don’t you likes about the Round Room?

It’s all round & stuff! Who’s ever heard of a round room. That’s just read icculus!

Seriously though, it just seems like something that was thrown together in an afternoon. I realize they were going for the whole “live feeling” with RR, but if I want live phish, I’ll pop in a live show. I want my studio Phish crisp and clear and tight (just like my women! )
There are some gems on that album, so as for the songs I do like a handfull of them, but I just don’t like the way it sounds. I feel dirty when I listen to it. I don’t know, it just brings me to a bad place, I guess. Just not a good relaxed “vibe” when I listen to it.

Well, I think there’s a lot of truth to that post. It was rushed, and it showed on the final product. I don’t think it flows as naturally as, say, Billy Breathes or Rift (obviously). It does kind of have a “dark” feel to it (I’ve always said it’s a winter album…snow, no sunlight, dark colors, wind, rain, blah).

I think there’s a Phish album for every mood.

Round Room is pretty raw, but that recording of Waves is absolutely unbelievable, IMO. To me, it sounds like they rehearsed it 3-4 times and turned the mics on. What you hear is what you get… and it’s awesome. The rest of Round Room is really oddly paced, though. The payoff at the end with Waves is worth it.

In the Undermind thread…
