"Ill fated 70 Volt Parade"

In the The Phish Biography, Parke Peterbaugh is quoted saying something about the “Ill fated 70 Volt Parade”. Does anyone have any more insight as to why they were ill fated and what the problems were? I guess to answer my own question, two guitarists would probably be one problem.

Maybe a bad touring relationship with Skeeto?

Anything else your inquiring minds could supply would help put to rest some of my wonders.

Did you see a 70VP show?

:sunglasses:

Actually a bunch, so I understand the initial concern, but I was wondering if it was anything more deep seeded…

Who knows…

All I know is I wasn’t the world’s biggest 70VP fan.

Maybe it had to do with the fact that band was basically started the same year Trey got busted… and it was solo shows or “Original” TAB from then on.

I’m pretty sure 70VP is over with.

Ya, I’m curious to see if Trey does do some touring without Phish and if so, in what incarnation.

70VP was nothing special…the Red Rocks DVD was kind of cool…rain and all…but musically didn’t seem to work for Trey having another guitar—a crappy one at that!

I had fun at the Ryman with 70 volt ('05). They did a nice “In The Light” by Zeppelin. Trey played an acoustic Wilson, but I missed it because my jackass friends locked my keys in my car, and I was waiting on AAA… But the Bonnaroo ('06?) show was embarassing. You know, with American Idol guy. Looking back, those were sad, sad times in the Phish world. Do you guys remember some people graffitizing a venue and breaking windows? They spray-painted something like, “Trey is Wilson.” “The Lizards are dead.” or some fucked up shit.

“Rollercoaster gotta roll to the bottom, if you’re gonna climb to the top again.”

70 Volt Charade!

I think all that explains that it was ill-fated.

^^
Oh yeah, I forgot about Bo Bice. Plus wasn’t it with 70VP where someone threw a cup at Trey and he went off?

I once saw a Widespread Panic show with Taylor Hicks.

Tyler Hicks.

Tiler Hycks.

Something like that.

He blew the harmonica, and was actually pretty sweet.

I think he was on American Idol… may have won… I have no idea.

I think you mean “Taylor.”

He either got first or second…maybe to Carrie Underwood? Or Ruben Studdard? Or Ghey Aiken?

I think you mean Clay.

Trey noted that Skeeto couldn’t handle the tough criticism he was reading on the net when it came to jammin and improving. He said it got to him and led to his diparture. Trey said this outfit wasn’t right for him. I read this in some interview… Possibly Relix…?

I saw 70 Volt back in '05 at the Ryman…it was actually a pretty decent show…I mean, its not Phish, but it wasnt THAT bad…however “The New Deal” opened up for them and they were on fire

Trey @ Bonnaroo 2005 = rock bottom

I’ve seen a YouTube clip, and I can’t remember where it’s from, but is B2005 where he gave that rambling, incoherent speech? And he looked awful, too.

the ‘push on till the day’ jam that i saw the 70vp play on 11/5/05 was one of the best single song performances that i have ever seen live. trey morphed into jimi zappa before our eyes.

I have had ZERO issues when ever I have seen Trey solo. He and the band rocked the bay area many times and I’ve been to them all - from Greek 2001 to Warfield 2006. I will go again for sure.
