Honestly the most incredible shows for glowstick wars are String Cheese. ::ducks:: But seriously, there are just these times at Cheese shows when it gets so intense that the glowsticks seem to just explode out of the crowd. So, I dunno, I like glowstick wars in general. We should just make a policy that says if you throw one at the stage everyone will just jump you. Or something like that.

Rothbury '09…Oh yeah…
Best I’ve ever seen.
Seems either people are FINALLY over them, or the young crowd just doesn’t know what the hell’s going on. I’m hoping it’s the previous. I’ve yet to see a successful glow stick war attempt since Coventry, thank fuck!

I thought you were only 30?

As long as they are not thrown on stage…Who’s gives a shit? It’s a concert people…have fun!
Ha, cute Will. They were okay for a while, but I find them distracting as shit…especially when I’m having to dodge them to enjoy the musical greatness that surrounds me.
My favorite two "GSW"s ever atteneded were the Went Hood and the Providence 2001 of the Island Tour.
Since then, they have become kind of a pain. I seem to be a beacon for them to come land on my face, I tend to stick up above the surrounding crowd at most shows.
So yah, there have been a couple fun ones, Val likes them a lot for some reason, she likes to gather all the ones around us and throw up a few twenty at a time, and thats kind of fun.
I like to be viewing from the upper deck though, not be in the midst of it on the floor.
So yah, hit me with a glow stick, and I’ma come find jo azz
The only time I enjoy the glowstick wars are at festivals… The one during Ghost at IT was unreal… I think Phish had a hand in it though, because I seem to remember huge bursts of orange glowsticks coming up like fireworks from regularly spaced spots in the crowd.
Could have been the drugs though…
For some reason I don’t feel bad for you. It’s probably because no matter where you are standing, you can see the stage over everyone else’s head.
I also enjoyed the Great Went one and the one in Providence, but after that it was kind of like “oh wait they’re playing Hood, maybe we should start throwing these things around”. They are no longer spontaneous, but maybe I just don’t “get it”. I don’t really get angry about them, it just seems silly to have a website dedicated to what I feel is a lame crowd stunt. Now if we’re talking about fucking laser pointers…
Nah, there is no drugs that make glow sticks pop up from the ground… ![]()
I remember that too. Awesome Ghost. But I was
as well, so it could have been that. ![]()
At least the $$$ goes to Mockingbird Foundation…

MMMMMMEEEEEHHHH.
Wow, that’s quite a Meh.
Hhmmm…whatever happened to the tortilla wars? Anybody witness one of these or was Gorge 2003 a one time thing? There was a day time tortilla war during round room, which seemed like a cool variation on the lame glowstick war. I’m surprised that this new website is sanctioned by the band because I could have sworn that the beginings of a glowstick war put an end to the great jam that was developping out of Ghost at Wantagh last summer.
Generally, it seemed to me (from the shows I saw in 09) that people trying to get GS wars going are a dying breed as most people just ignored their shenanigans. Let`s just agree to leave this once spontaneous event in 1997, ok?

Yes.
Those things flew great too!
I miss the marshmallow wars,…Red Rocks 96 had a good one.
Alpine Valley had a few good ones as well.

I don’t think it is, unless there’s something I missed. The Mockingbird Foundation is a completely fan-based organization and has official connection with Phish, Inc. (A lot of people seem to think Mockingbird is Phish’s own charitable organization, but that’s the Waterwheel Foundation.)
As long as it goes to a good cause.
let’s just go old school and bring back the BIG BALL JAM!

the title of this thread scared the shit out of me for a second. i was preparing myself for some really bad news.
i’m actually quite relieved this discussion is just about glowsticks. i assumed something happened to someone in the phish community. glad to know i was wrong!
Howdy. GSW is my company and I would like to address some concerns. First, the main purpose of the site is to be a new way for us all to share concert photos and videos - all photos and videos, certainly not just those relating to glow sticks. We picked the name Glow Stick Wars because it is something visual, photogenic, and something that we all instantly relate to and understand. This site was not built to serve the photo-sharing needs of Miley-Cirus fans, and we feel the name reflects that. Beyond that, we realized that there is a problem with the state of glow stick wars today. A problem that certainly is not being adequately addressed by people slamming these occurrences in forums. GSWs are happening. They will continue to happen. And it is not our goal to stop nor encourage them. BUT, since they are happening, we feel they could be made safer, and the money spent on those sticks could be used to support a good cause. But please, if you have a problem with glow sticks, still check out the site, it will be an amazing place for everyone to collaborate and share their shows. Our goal is to make concert photos and videos as easy to find as the set list - not to make more or less glow stick wars. Thanks for reading. Cheers.
Holy shit. Glowstick wars are not only dated and dangerous but now they speak and can make computer website accounts for themselves. If we don’t make it angry maybe it will not hurt us. This happened a couple years ago when Tornado’s joined the board and we got through that. Stay strong PA!
