Umphreys Mcgee and Moe.
Also don’t ever count out Widespread…
My Morning Jacket is about this decade’s best contribution from where i’m sitting.
Panic with Herring sounds mighty fine to me.
^word
MOE.
And Ratdog blows away Phil,
Widespread and Phil tied for third
Lately Widespread Panic has been doin it for me!! I wish I had $75 bucks to see them play at Irving Plaza tommorrow night!
Listening to a lot of bluegrass jam these days… Pert 'Near Sandstone is quite tasty live…
phish, ratdog and the gd are pretty much all i listen to
I was kidding about OAR yesterday. I saw that they had a video featured on VH1 and it made me cringe. Talk about generic.
Anyway, my favs are pretty standard: moe, The Slip, Disco Biscuits (guaranteed to NOT put you to sleep), The Big Wu (why no mentions?), Phil, Allmans, The New Deal, String Cheese (though they’re broken up), Umphrey’s and yes, Dave Matthews Band (get a live album).
Stevo
the only current “jamband” I listen to with any kind of dedication would be Medeski, Martin and Wood, but they’re more jazzy than jammy in my mind anyway. and I listen to Phish too, of course.
maybe a bit of phil, ratdog, or WSP every once in a while. I guess I did listen to SCI Carnival '99 last night too. I think Ratdog probably transfers best on tape, for me, out of those four bands.
I listen to a lot of music, but the only jam bands I’ve ever gotten into are Phish and GD. I’ve tried listening to a little Umphrey’s and moe. before, but they didn’t do much for me.
The Phruity Phrench Phries of Philli.
i’m just kiddin i just made that up.
i made up a song the other night while i was alone. it went like this:
let’s have one, then another
let’s fornicate with eachother
it’s about 35 minutes long and it’s all one note. it’s so feck’n seck.
but back on topic: Cinderella
Dude, remember the spring '04 PPPP tour?
It was rad.
im surprised many people seem to like ratdog better than phil. i kinda feel like bobby is getting old and you can hear it in the music. i think phil still brings a fresh new sound to the dead tunes. and i think his band is much tighter than ratdog. but i still see both! ive always been kinda curious why the dead hasnt reunited… every member is touring. phil, bobby, mickey, kreutzman, donna…
^really.
ratdog = adult contemporary Dead
The Heavy Pets ;D Umphrey’s
Biscuits
i don’t know shit about jambands. i always have a couple or a few bands from the different genres that i gravitate towards and mostly ignore the rest. i don’t know why.
with that being said, i do tend to enjoy the dickens out of some Umphrey’s when i get the chance.
I think Ratdog is a great band, I dig them more than Phil at this point, i love them both, but i would go to a rd show over a pl&f show
just my opinion though
^I think I would agree with you at this point.
I like Phil shows, but I think he might be letting the music get a bit too “new school.” I mean, he played a frickin untzy Particle song this summer. He has a right to do new things and all that, but Phil is straying from his roots a bit more than I like, I think.
Ratdog sticks more to the GD sound, and I like that. And they have a saxophone player.
