Jam in the Dam '07 - Announcement 9/5/06

one word: UNBELIEVABLE

especially if you’ve never been to amsterdam. nothing can prepare you for the greatness.

i think what he means by “slightly different” is that there’ll be some different genres of music represented. last year was pretty much a trance/dance/jam fest…umphrey’s, bisco, STS9, and the Duo…which i loved (as long as Umph is there, we’re goin), but there was a lack of variety in a way.

my guess is they’ll have a blue(new)grass band and probably some funk. but they still have to have bands with big enough followings and the right demographic that are willing to spend that kind of money to see the bands across the pond.

^ gamecat, it all depends if you’re just gonna be in amsterdam and then fly back to the states. mallory and i went to JitD, then went to Hamburg to see umph one more night, then to london for a couple days…pretty expensive. here’s some of our costs.

JitD tix: early-bird price was $175 i believe
airfare: $525 roundtrip Minneapolis -> Amsterdam
hotel: approx $90-100 per night (we opted out of the hostel option, but those can be really cheap, less than $50 per night for sure)

eating there can be cheap if you find the right places around town. you can walk or take the tram everywhere, it’s a small city. and this year we’re gonna get a crew to go, perhaps you guys???, and rent an apartment or house-boat on the canal together…people tell me you can do that for as cheap as a hostel and it’s your own place while you’re there…tons of’em for rent online.

i bet you could do a trip to amsterdam and back, staying for let’s say 5 total nights, for around $2000 per person. but that’s cuttin it close if you wanna try all the local treats and flavors.

worth every single penny and credit card bill. we changed plans a lot (skipped out on 2 flights to london in order to stay in amsterdam an extra day and go to hamburg, then a flight to london from there instead) but we said fuck it and had as much fun as possible, at the expense of my lifetime in debt.

do it.

i’m out of breath. sorry for the long rant. i’m just ridiculously pumped up for this announcement…and i just saw umphrey’s here in MN the last two nights. nasty.

Yeah, Umph is playing really good lately.
They were on fire the other night here in Chi-town.

A house boat!!!
Um…that sounds like it could be trouble.
I mean that in very good way. Good trouble.

I’m definitely thinking about this.
If Umph & Tea Leaf are there it will be hard for me not to go.

I’ll wait and see who will be playin.

booyakasha

i was about to start a new thread for this, but i’m glad you just added it to the stuff from last year brad, as that will show how badass of a fest this is!

i am EAGERly awaiting an announcement today…i’m guessing it’ll be like midnight pacific time or some bullshit to keep me on the edge of my seat for one more day…but soon enough!

yeah, i’m jittery as hell waiting for this announcement. nervous though, cuz i heard a rumor that Umphrey’s AND Bisco will not be there…that’d bum me out, and it’d take quite a line-up for me to go and spend that kind of money without my Umph.

gamecat, i saw on the PT-UM messageboard that someone quoted a “gamecat” from a Tea Leaf board as saying no umphrey’s. please tell me that was you, and that you have news to deny that terrible claim.

No, I said that there will be Umph @ the Jam.

I’m being quoted?!? It prob was me, but I have heard Umph is playing. I guess people don’t want them to play.
First, I don’t post or even visit PT. There are too many bands to sort through and all the fans fight each other over who’s the best. That’s all I’ll say about that.

I do post occasionally on the TLG board under gamecat. I like them over there and well after 10lks I can’t stop listening to Tea Leaf. They floored me.

Anyway, a fellow Chicagoan who is close with the Umph said they were playing (and Tea Leaf!!!). I think your reading into the people who don’t want Umph there. They don’t think they will be there after playing there for the past, what, 3 years?

The whole “different kind of party” is screwing with everyone.
Nobody knows what to expect after that comment.

Don’t hold me to that above comment though.
Nobody knows who’s playing except the bands and promoters.
They are being quite mum on all this.
Should be announced pretty soon.

^ yeah, someone quoted a “gamecat” from a TLG board. LOL!!! you’re being passed around and your message is being changed…HA!!!

i bet the announcement won’t be til LATE tonight. i seem to remember it being that way last year.

FYI - Jam in the Dam has only been around the last 2 years, Umph has played them both…and sorta seem like one of the forces behind getting it all done to begin with.

"Just for our patient fans…3/4 of a line-up announcement.

We have been waiting all day for a final confirmation we were told we’ve have by today. But, in order to keep our word to our most loyal fans here on this board, we’ll give you what we have. The last piece could happen in the next five minutes, or five hours, but not five days.

25 years ago, in October of 1981, the Grateful Dead played at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, home to Jam in the Dam, for the first and only time. It

yeah, i must say i’m not exactly blown away at this point.

i’m still happy with galactic and would LOVE to see them in that setting. keller is keller and he’ll be wicked. but i recall being perty bummed galactic got dropped last year.

dso…that could be great and could be a dud…i think i’ve mentioned before that i’ve left TWO of their shows because the ‘song’ drums got a little too carried away. other than that i have no qualms with them and they put on a great show.

still, i’m hoping the delay in announcing the 4th is an indication that they’ll be something special.

like vida blue

that’d be special. but i’m dreaming…

i wouldn’t be surprised at all if neither the biscuits or um are there.

damn, i’m just harkening back to last year when i thought it’d be EIGHT KICK ASS bands over TWO weekends…now THAT got me excited…

Wow, this is getting trashed over on the Jam in the Dam website.
Alot of people are disappointed.

The 4th band better be big or this fest is in trouble.

^ i know it’s getting ugly…dan, can i quote you??? ok i will…

"i think it’s hilarious that the main beef most people are having with the lineup is “i’ve seen these guys so many times!”

hahaha, why have we all seen them so many times, i wonder???

STILL WAITING FOR THE FOURTH!!!

i hope it’s page mcconnell or something like that…(dreamin’ on)"

sorry, i’ve been all over that site and the msg board for about 5 days now…and it looks like it won’t be umphrey’s, but that just might be AJ trying to throw us off. who knows. my girlfriend is “phink” on there, (you’ve met her dan) she’s a bigger umphreak than me, as you can see…

crossin’ dem fingers.

shit, if i lived across the pond like you dan, i don’t think it’d matter who was playing…i’d be there. must be nice to have that option. but then again, we have a couple here in the states over the summertime, or all year.

^^ i think it’ll be pretty big, with this kind of wait and negotiations that seem to be taking place.

my guess…hmmmm…i’m gonna think for a second.

the more i think about it, the more disappointed i am by this line-up. granted, they’re all great acts, but think about their draw compared to bands they had last year…how do they expect to sell it out???

for instance…umphrey’s and sound tribe have sold out much bigger venues in minneapolis than DSO, galactic AND keller have in the past year. that’s a fact.

this could be ugly as far as ticket sales…who knows, perhaps a lot of old deadheads with money are gonna be goin, that might be the saving grace.

that’s right MUTHA FUCKAS!!! i’ll triple post when and wherever i want!!!

yeah dude, feel free to quote me any time

i just thought that point was kinda funny…like ‘that lineup is crap because i like these bands so much i’ve seen them all 30 times already…’ but i also get the point that they’re pretty easily accessible in the states…not that the bands at the first two haven’t been also.

and also i’m trying to support the promoters a little because they’re getting bashed to fuck on there…it’s gotta be tough after not selling out last year trying to get the right mix…i was glad to hear they approached mmw but pretty bummed to hear they wanted loads of doller for it.

…and yeah, it’d be a MUCH easier decision if i planned to still be ‘across the pond’ at that point, but my work permit runs out in feb, so i’ll be looking to move back states side this holiday season…will probably be going to jamcruise as well, so cash flow could be a problem if i don’t line up a kick ass J-O-B pretty soon…

that’s cool Mal is Phink, i had no clue…i do recall her saying she was a big umphreak tho.

i really need to stop checking it hoping to have an announcement…i assume we’ll be getting a proper email once the time comes for a proper announcement…

^^DAMN RIGHT YOU WILL!!!

Galactic I LOVE. Especially since they got rid of Houseman. These guys groove like nobody else.

Keller is entertaining.

Dark Star Orchestra I enjoy the hell out of. Never having seen the Grateful Dead, I love these guys.

Not enough to travel across the country however.

Now if the fourth band is Phish, then I’m going.

^ yeah, that’d be niiiiiiiiice.

^^ dan, Mal’s last name is Fink. Get it??

not gonna be overseas anymore?? that sucks man. or are you looking forward to being back here again?

This is getting good.

Is anyone else reading the forum over on their message board?

You have to read what people are saying.
Some funny shit. People are getting defensive and angry.

Nothing like a war between different bands fans. ;D :stuck_out_tongue:

high entertainment value there man. good stuff. people are idiots.

^^^ makes total sense now!

and yeah, i’m looking forward to getting back to the country where all the music i’m obsessed with will be played, and in a more general sense, just getting back ‘home’, but there’s definitely some things i’ll miss…like being close to amsterdam

^, ^^ that shit is pretty funny. a whole lot of back and forth, quoting, calling out etc etc…

i am pretty surprised/impressed to see a number of “STARheads” (never heard that term before this week) professing their COMPLETE deadication to this band (see what i’ve done there?)

so…

Yonder it is!

i must say, ymsb and galactic were the two bands i was most bummed about getting dropped last year. it’s still gonna be a tough decision to buy a ticket or not…i think all 4 bands fit together nicely, and would be great in that setting…but it costs a few bob to do this thing…idunno. i need some time to think it over

yeah, the addition of Yonder was a good one for this line-up. personally, not what i wanted, and i understand, they gotta change things up. what’s the point of calling it a festival if it’s the same bands every year??? but, i just can’t justify the money for who’s there. but i bet sales will be good, it’ll be interesting to see if it sells out…i bet it does to be honest.

well, that saves me some money for something else big. i’ve got the inside word that umphrey’s will be trying to plan a euro tour in the late spring/early summer. if that happens, i think Mallory and I are gonna do it. then we’d still get our amsterdam fix AND have our umphrey’s over there. looking forward to that possiblility.

nice avatar dan, we got that poster there last year, and got it signed by all the umph guys. just framed it the other day finally.

JitD '08 will be where it’s at!!! heheheeeee…
