Joy

hmmmm…

uh, like…

ummmm…

hm.

and your thoughts?

lol
i think it’s going to get better once the flow is instilled. the lyrics seem a little cliche right now.

i will say there’s some pretty cool Billy Breathes-esque guitar work in this song.

i’m def not crazy about it though. that’s okay, so far all the new stuff has been pretty great IMO. i’ll give 'em one dud

After raging for the whole show, I was pretty still during this song. I wasn’t feeling it at all, and either was anybody in my lawn section.

Indeed.

Jennifer Dances would kick this songs ass.

Hey, I like Jennifer Dances.

I’m basically okay w/Jennifer too. It’s a song with three chords and basically dumb lyrics. But it doesn’t bother me at all either. I kinda like it. Maybe because my expectations were so low before I heard it, I don’t know.

But after so many positive reactions to the new stuff, I’m a little bummed to read folks aren’t digging one of them. Anybody like this one?

I do. Mostly.

Positives: The verses have a cool melody and it leaves itself open to epic Trey soloage.

Negatives: The word “Happy” getting yelled over and over again. I hope this chorus gets re-worked “Bug” style, as the rest of the song is quite nice.

i just enJoy it cause he just wants us to be happy!!

^ pretty much!!

i actually like this song ok…and most of the time im pretty iffy towards teh_gheyer songs

okay it’s growing on me after about three listens. at first the lyrics did seem really too sappy for my taste, but the sentiment/meaning i’m picking up behind them is making me reevaluate. simply a song about wanting you?/me?/haters?/some girl named Joy?/themselves?/all of the above to be happy–because now’s a really good time to be happy. that’s pretty cool.

plus as i already pointed out the guitar work and melodic theme that starts about halfway through is some pretty powerful stuff.

sorry.

too many posts.

i can’t stop listening to it. it’s so good, so beautiful. i think it might be about his sister.

joy is over there in her incredible clothes
she’s has silver silk shimmering down to her toes
i was doing the best that i can i suppose
but that little girl dancing eventually grows
well she grows

you can’t imagine all the times that i tried
to uncover the source of the tears that you cried
let’s throw it away and just go for a ride
and you’d say okay but you’d keep it inside
and i tried, i tried
i tried, i tried

we want you to be happy
don’t live inside the gloom
we want you to be happy
come step outside your room
we want you to be happy
cause this is your song too

i never thought i could have it so good
you were the song that my soul understood
time is a river that flows through the woods
and it led us to places we both understood
would be gone before too long
would be gone before too long

when we were young we thought life was a game
but then somebody leaves you and you’re never the same
all of the places and people belong to the puzzle
but one of the pieces is gone and it’s you
it’s you, it’s you, joy it’s you

we want you to be happy
don’t live inside the gloom
we want you to be happy
come step outside your room
we want you to be happy
cause this is your song too

in time we’ll weather the storm
inside together, you’ll see the change
and the sun shines through

we want you to be happy
don’t live inside the gloom
we want you to be happy
come step outside your room
we want you to be happy
cause this is your song too

Man, I really like this song. I think it has such a positive message. I am surprised by all this “meh” business.

Sold on listen four.

This song is great too.

I love this song. Listening to Camden, it was an ideal cooldown after the incredible second set, and fit wonderfully next to Bouncing. It caught my ear the first listen, and it kept growing on me. I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it, but it’s my favorite new Phish tune right now. Joy is what Jennifer Dances wanted to be.

What’d be epic would be a Wading > Joy > With.

Definitely dig this song… gets better every time I hear it.

I hated this song the first time I heard it. Then when they played it at Alpine it hit me how important this song was. It gets pretty emotional when you look at the big picture. I really really enjoy it now.

This song makes me happy, and isn’t that all that is important. This song is like a great big musical hug, like Glide.

i think it is too. i’m pretty sure the rolling stone article about the new album said it was. i like it a lot.

i’m also seeing it as the band just playing for anyone who is feeling depressed or down for whatever reason. kinda like brian and robert.

this one is for you / this is your song too
