Junta Vinyl ~ please, thank you very much

I hope that the White Tape and Party Time releases are signs of what’s to come … my hope is that they’re gonna get the licensing or whatever they need to issue the Elektra records on the Jemp label at some point. When that goes down, what do you imagine Junta could look like? I imagine a two record set, laid out like the original cassette release, with DSky starting the second half.

… I also imagine that pollock art looking real nice, and there being either a gatefold sleeve, or printed inner sleeves … I can envision a third record maybe with the bonus tracks, but don’t prefer it … and I can imagine the four-panel fishing Fee cartoon (two panels in the tray/booklet art, two more on the discs) across the four record labels. Come on let’s go. Press this sucka.

i’m onboard with this idea… then, i’m onboard with every phish album getting a vinyl release.

Phish ‘Junta’ Deluxe 3-LP Vinyl Available For Record Store Day

On Record Store Day 2012, Phish will release Junta, the band’s first full-length studio album, as a Limited Edition Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set, available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. Junta marks the band’s second release in conjunction with Record Store Day, and the first time Junta has ever been released on vinyl.

This LE Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. Junta was recorded at Euphoria Sound Studios in Revere, Massachusetts in 1987 and 1988 on 16-track 2" tape and was mixed to 1/4" stereo reels. In addition to writing and performing all the music, the band produced the album themselves.

Junta was originally self-released on cassette tape in May 1989 with packaging created by the band (included in the new vinyl package). The album was remastered and rereleased as a double CD (and cassette) in October 1992. Junta was certified Gold but, until now, has never been heard on vinyl. The vinyl release was created from the original stereo master reels with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Each LP is pressed onto 180g audiophile grade vinyl and includes a free MP3 download of the entire album (transferred from the new vinyl master).

2,500 of the Junta Deluxe 3-LP sets will include a brand new Limited Edition hand-carved, hand-printed linolium block poster by Jim Pollock, created exclusively for this release. These editions will be distributed randomly at participating independently owned record stores across the country, but will be clearly marked.

This LE Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set was created exclusively for Record Store Day. Junta will be available in stores only beginning Saturday, April 21st. For a complete list of participating record stores, please click here.

Thanks for pointing me to this! I did a small victory dance at my office desk when I read this post earlier today.
 :ugeek:

Well I’m definitely, seriously, without a doubt, sexually attracted to this. I mean, intending to buy this puppy. Why in the world they didn’t break it down like I asked, we’ll never know.

Seriously, this calls for the classic double record treatment. Three records if you want a side five full o Union Federal. Record one should end with Dinner & A Movie! Whatever; I guess I can now look at the CD as only one of several layout variations now, instead of seeing it as ‘wrong compared to the tape’.

I’m sure I’ll get used to it. In about two seconds after I unwrap it.

With my excitement of the record release I completely missed this little paragraph

^I should wish I have the option. At this point I just want one either way.

^^Glenn, God knows what I’ll be dealing with, trying to nab one of these things. But if I can multi-nab I will. I’d be stoked to ship a Junta to England.

Oh my God. They’re pressing Junta on vinyl.

fuck yeah. i’m really excited… especially since they’re saying the went the full 9 with new masters and everything.

MI has gone to hell as far as record stores go… i hope i’m going to be able to get one of these

YES!!! Need to add this to the Two Soundchecks.

If I am in town, I too will be trying to get at least 1, if not 2!!

Awesome!

I have no record player… SO… Glenn… what do I do? I’m in L.A., there’s gotta be thousands of record stores within a few miles. Just gimme the low-down and I’ll score your shit for ya. I’m legit!

I am incredibly excited about this release as well…and probably equally as nervous about scoring a copy!!! Really hoping it goes well that morning. Managed to get 2 soundchecks, white tape and party time but feel like the demand on this may be a little higher. Fingers crossed!!

Yeah man me too. I didn’t get 2 Soundchecks, and I didn’t get White Tape til Black Friday. And I might be out of town on Record Store Day. :frowning: Likely in fact.

Patiently waiting for pre-order :shh:

You’re WHAT???

I’m starting to bum out about this, thinking there’s a good chance that a) I won’t get it, and b) that I’m being childish and materialistic, and c) that you can preorder one, but I cannot.

I am also keeping my eyes open for possible preorder from a couple sites that offered it for the RSD Black Friday sale but the rules may have been different for Black Friday than they are for the official RSD releases so I don’t know if that will work or not. I have already sent a msg to my local store asking for them to request it for me and am making plans to possibly camp out in front of another store overnight to be first in line. When did collecting vinyl become so much work?!

God I hated changing sides. I’m not old enough to remember records-- I’m only in my mid-30’s-- but changing sides of cassette tapes before the auto-side-changer was a total pain in the ass.

You must’ve hated the auto-side-changer, huh, Glenn?

 Awesome.

I called my local record store and the owner told me that he is only able to order for record store day approx. 3 days prior to the day. I am not sure how this makes sense, but he stated…“that’s the problem with record store day.” He seemed to imply that the organization of record store day is lackluster at best. I am pessimistic about success on this one, so if I get one, I’ll be elated and super surprised! He did mention that the release quantity seems to have gone up 2k from the last release of 3k…(I didn’t research this, so I’m assuming he’s right.) I’m wondering what is on side F?? It seems that it would be the unreleased bonus stuff from the CD? It just seems odd that they wouldn’t publicize what would be on side F, given that side has to have another side! I’d still love to get my paws on a two soundchecks, but I can’t handle paying $100! My biggest fear is that people will buy it up, and we’ll be sitting at home crying about how we didn’t get a copy and 100s of copies will be on ebay for way inflated prices. I guess that’s the reality of a limited pressing, though.
