Haha, I was completely kidding about that whole thread… of course I know and love Maze. The White Album is supposedly top notch Beatles, while Undermind is not considered top notch Phish. Top notch Phish is not poppy.
I dont really think there is much phish thats poppy. I would say Undermind is as close to poppy as phish gets, but thats cool, cuz I really like Undermind.
No one believes that was a joke. Undermind is top notch Phish, and is a solid album.
All kidding aside Undermind has some great potential on it. I would have loved to see Scents and Subtle sounds after it had a few years to develop. I like Crowd Control a lot, even more after watching the guys have a blast playing it on the DVD that came with the album. I have to admit, I have not gotten through the first 30 seconds of the connection. A song I heard the Ocean Sing is a great tune. There is an amazing live version of that one forgot the show though. Grind is fun and a cool way to close the album.
The White Album is not too poppy for Phish. The White Album is the one Beatles album my mom hated. That, to me, says that it is not poppy.
yeah, forgive me, I had forgotton how everything post Rubber Soul wasn’t nearly as poppy and could be pretty musically genius.
6/19/04, SPAC. It opened the second set and lasted 18 1/2 minutes before melting in the epic Piper. Kuroda’s lights were amazing, too.
When I went back east for Brooklyn and SPAC, I brought the LivePhish 10/31/95 with me. Just before the 6/20/04 YEM, the kid next to me handed me a joint and I took a few puffs. I don’t know what that shit was, but it blew the top of my head off. So, about an hour later, I get back to my hotel room in town and I’m totally flying, almost like an acid trip. I put on Set I and I almost completely lost it when Trey starts screaming “Book! Spirits! Book! Spirits! BOOK! SPIRITS!”. Luckily, that killer Divided Sky calmed me down. I thought about listening to the YEM, but I decided not to risk it. The “fuck her in the ass” vocal jam might have totally done me in.
Um, if anyone could do a B&P of a DVD of this show, e-mail me. Sorry, I’m a newbie collector, I don’t have anything to trade.
I have only heard this show in its entirety twice. This is one of 3 LP releases (CDs) I do not own.
This “YEM” is one of the most overrated "YEM"s in my book.
shut yo mouf.
We rolled down to Chicago 10 deep that Ween night! 9 tickets between us. So we set out on our mission to score ticket #10. Boom in the lobby of the hotel right next to rosemont me and my buddy Biz score a 3rd row center. Since our buddy Josh scored us our tickets weeks earlier we all decided to share the ticket. We picked numbers out of a hat to see which set we would get down there for. I got set 3. Sure alot more YEM’s i saw were more danceable and better musically . But when you saw 35 of them, the one from 10-31-95 is definately one not to have missed!
seriously. i saw 12-9-95, and i would trade it in a heartbeat for 10/31. great version!
I would not trade 10-31 for 12-9 either. It’s nice to have all sorts of versions of songs to look back on. Especially when you saw that tune so much. That’s why i like 12-5-97 so much when it was dogged by pretty much everyone i went with!
Dude…I totally traded 10-31 for 12-9 and buddy burned me and sent me 11/24 instead.
Sonofa!
Do you mean 12-3? No YEM @ CSU.
^I was saying how alot of the songs at CSU that year were strange versions!
True that!
I think I’m gonna d/l the AUD of this show, mainly for the Quadrophenia, real soon.
I intentionally resisted hearing this show until I had the chance to digest the actual Who album.
I’ve finally familiarized myself with that monster, so now’s the time, the time is now (sing Bob Plant’s song).
I can’t imagine how they divided up the vocals. Does Page sing a lot of it?
Holy crap did they do a fine job on that Who stuff. I can’t believe how good it is, actually.
I remember wondering which member was gonna tackle “Love Reign O’er Me”.
Shoulda known!
