He’s going out with a bang.
My friend asked to pass this along.
Our current occupier Bush, in his limited wisdom, has apparently decided that it’s not important that kids learn how to read.
Reading Is Fundamental was eliminated from the President’s proposed FY2009 budget. But Congress can save it. It has been funded by Congress and six Administrations (including two Reagan terms and Bush Sr.) without interruption since 1975.
Last year, 4.6 million at-risk children were able to choose and keep 16 million free books through RIF programs. Without this funding, these programs will cease.
Just for comparison, the department of agriculture is getting $2 billion just for their marketing budget!
If you care about childrens’ education (and the future of America) please take a minute and look at the link to make your voice heard. Contact your congressional representatives and urge them to support RIF’s funding appropriation.

~And just for the record, this budget seeks to cut funding for:
health and human services -2.1% (who needs to be healthy?)
the department of the interior -3.7% (who needs all those trees?)
justice -10.7% (yeah, crime)
labor -7.8% (who needs all those jobs?)
transportation -25.7% (who needs public transportation and roads?)
corp of engineers -15.1% (who needs safe levees and bridges?)
the EPA -4.4% (who needs clean air and water?).
