Keep our kids reading

He’s going out with a bang.
My friend asked to pass this along.

Our current occupier Bush, in his limited wisdom, has apparently decided that it’s not important that kids learn how to read.

Reading Is Fundamental was eliminated from the President’s proposed FY2009 budget. But Congress can save it. It has been funded by Congress and six Administrations (including two Reagan terms and Bush Sr.) without interruption since 1975.

Last year, 4.6 million at-risk children were able to choose and keep 16 million free books through RIF programs. Without this funding, these programs will cease.

Just for comparison, the department of agriculture is getting $2 billion just for their marketing budget!

If you care about childrens’ education (and the future of America) please take a minute and look at the link to make your voice heard. Contact your congressional representatives and urge them to support RIF’s funding appropriation.

~And just for the record, this budget seeks to cut funding for:

health and human services -2.1% (who needs to be healthy?)
the department of the interior -3.7% (who needs all those trees?)
justice -10.7% (yeah, crime)
labor -7.8% (who needs all those jobs?)
transportation -25.7% (who needs public transportation and roads?)
corp of engineers -15.1% (who needs safe levees and bridges?)
the EPA -4.4% (who needs clean air and water?).

cripes.

we’re down to like 7 months more of this nonsense.

Wait a second…people bitch and whine that raising taxes doesn’t solve anything and that the solution is cut the budgets and to cut spending. Then, when they actually do that, we complain some more? The money’s gotta come from somewhere, folks. And me, I’d prefer it didn’t come from my pockets since I’m convinced the government couldn’t run anything right.

Of course, if they would cut that waste-of-money space program, THEN we might be somewhere…but nooooooo! We gotta colonize Mars!!!

Stevo

I think you would sing a different tune Stevo, if you had a school age child. It’s so important that they get a good eduational foundation. It saddens me that he could take anything away from kids, man. The man jumps at the chance to start an unwinable war that costs us BILLIONS of dollars and counting, so to pay for it, he wants to take money away from children, who are the future of our country. I guess he figures if he can’t read, nobody else should be able to either.

^AMEN!

The solution is to stop trying to rule the world with weopons, and maybe even stop the war on drugs (atleast as far as marijuana goes [LEGALIZE IT!]). We could bring the space program to a bare minimum (even though it’s interesting to me). These are just a few things we could do to lower our taxes and really boost our economy (and provide books for children, for crying out loud!!!)

Wonder where your money is going
