^Now that is sweet, no doctoring there, so I am told! ![]()
hmmm…
Reminds me of the Pink Floyd “ENIGMA” thing from that there Division Bell tour. Bring on the conspiracy theories!
I thought they wrote “Sketchy D” at Hershey.
after the blossom show, as we’re leaving the pavilion i saw kuroda packing up gear and such with another lighting dude, so i walked over and hollered at him, “hey chris, i love the new colors!!”… he chuckled a bit with the other guy and they both nodded, then replied, “Thanks!” and gave me a ![]()
anyone else notice the new color pantones, schemes and combinations?? especially the blues and greens are just a little bit different hues or something. i’m a big fan
that and he’s got that new row/layer of lights just below the three trampolines (at least that’s what we call those round screens he uses up top)
at toyota and blossom we were in such great spots to be taken over by CK5, i was gettin lost

Yes the lights shined all the way from Chicago to Ohio, I am also a fan, very nicely done! I really liked the ‘rainbow’ type combinations her was throwing up there as well, such a part of the show that I almost get lost there as well as with the music!!!
I did the same at Cincy last year. Got a chance to go and holler at Chris, he broke my balls about being an Eagles fan and then I told him how much I enjoyed his work and how much it makes the show. He smiled and was very appreciative. Such a badass.
I got to shake the man’s hand after Albany 2 last fall. I was on the floor for that show and my row lined up directly with CK5. I just walked over after the show, yelled that he was the best at what he does, so he came over, said thanks and shook my hand. I haven’t washed it since ![]()
Hm…I don’t think those pics are real, are they? I didn’t see that at any of the 4 shows I was at. Has anybody personally witnessed this? I also did not notice any drastic changes in the lights between this tour and last year. There might have been some subtle changes but nothing that stood out to me.
I got to watch my Dad party with Kuroda and Sands and some of the other crew members in the bar at our hotel in Albany 98. I was only 16 then so all I could do was stand in the lobby and shake my fist at him.
^ Yep they’re real. Although I haven’t seen a show yet this summer to personally witness it, this picture is on the Great Woods From The Road photos.

Epic Shit!
CK5 is the golden god of lighting. Didn’t see that in Chicago tho.
^Indeed!
Yeah I thought I saw this at Spac2 but wasn’t sure… or it happened so fast it was gone before I could really look at it but it was on full display at great woods… during the slave jam i think… neato keeno.
double posted’d
I think he should spell out CHRIS
That would make an epic photo.
I guess I’m in the minority here, but I really don’t like that the lights spell out Phish. I mean, yeah, it’s cool that he can make the lights spell out a word, but I don’t know, I guess I’m just not a fan of it.
Now, as for his other work, well, it’s just unmatched. I think he’s, hands down, the greatest lighting tech in the business. There is no one who is even close to him. It was actually watching his work that got me thinking about a future as a lighting tech. I even went so far as to go and take a tour of “Full Sail” in Orlando and was “This close” to enrolling. But, being the age I was, and not sure I wanted to be in Florida all by my lonesome, I more or less chickened out, and didn’t go.
One of the bigger mistakes I’ve made in life. ![]()
But yeah, back to the moral of the story here. CK5 is most definately, indubidably, undeniably, without a doubty the best lighting guy out there. And so humble and nice taboot!
If it’s the minority I’m in it too. I don’t know if I want to go so far as to call it tacky…but at least it seems to be more of an elusive shot on the rafters so I can’t hate on it too much. And yes the guy is awesome, this would be the first thing he’s ever done that I even came close to not liking.
I was, however, thinking about this when I was in SPAC, but I think I actually liked his lighting better in the mid-90’s when it was solely about color schemes and timing. The large rigs and fancy computer stuff, while visually stunning, detract from the “5th man” aspect of Kuroda if you ask me. The computer programs seem to be all about the “picture”…I was watching some mid-90’s clips on youtube and was marveling in the way Kuroda had all the changes down in the jams as well as the composed pieces.
minority here too ![]()
I’ve been doin’ the youtube couch tour this summer, I’m watchin’ Camden right now and I must say these are teh best lights I’ve seen so far…all this from my computer screen butt still…
CK5… Rules!
I hear ya on this, and yah, the weirdness started when he added that upside down trampoline screen.
And he started using that as a canvas to paint, it was cool, but there always looked like a swastika on the screen when he moved the lights around. Then he added two more, and now the new rig and it’s a lot to swallow.
I still think he makes his cuts okay, and he deffinately is still leading some of those jams, YAH I SAID IT!!
He has the ability to lead them in and out of the swampy thickness sometimes. But yah, spelling their name out is kinda strange.
However, the lights at Red Rocks last summer, whew, fecking seck
