"Lawn Boy" placement

My only gripe about the “Lawn Boy” album (which is my favorite Phish album) is the placement of the title track. I mean, you have “Antelope”, which is total energy, and then, BLOOOP! “Lawn Boy”. Completely puts the emergency brake on. And then “Bouncing” has to start from zero. You’re back up by the end, but imagine if they moved “L.B.” to right after “Gin” so that you could have the uninterrupted one/two punch of “Antelope”/“Bouncing”.

(I have nothing against the actual song, by the way. I love Page’s voice and the humor of the song. They just made it the wrong track).

It does not seem to fit in really anywhere on the album.

The most interesting placement for me is “Squirming Coil” to lead the album off.

I guess I am just too stubborn and enjoy that to close out sets/albums/books/movies/games…

I agree… I think that Lawn Boy should come before Anetlope. And that Bouncin and Squirming should swap places.

I think Lawn Boy is perfectly placed…I just think that Bouncing is poorly placed…what a disappointing ending…The album might make more sense if all the tracks were reversed…ie. Start the album with Bouncing and end it with Coil, and all the great jamming in between.

I never was a huge Bouncing fan. It was really quiet for the end, especially when you can still vividly remember antelope. It’s kind of a letdown. LB after gin wouldve been great, though. And I would put Bouncing after Reba. I think that woulda been great.

I’ve always loved the placement of Squirming Coil at the beginning of the album. Those chords hit by Page in the beginning are a perfect way to lead off an album. Followed by the bah-um by Fishman on his snare. Brilliant stuff.

It is funny that Coil is a tried and true closer live but opens on the album. I agree that Bouncin and Coil should be switched.
