Do to recent requests. It seems time to post about the consensual favorite substance to partake at the Phish show. Sure I have a Michigan med card. I do not condone anybody who legally grows to take plant matter out of the state that they are allowed to possess it in. Please do not solicit me for weed. It will be ignored. If anybody wants to discuss medicinal subjects, law, or botany this thread might be an interesting forum. If not…Maybe it will just antagonize 1st amendment opponents. Which is also fun.
This is my sigline on another forum, which pretty much sums up how I feel:
The fact is, marijuana is not dangerous. It is not toxic. It provides medicinal benefits to some and recreational pleasure to others. It can bring pain relief to a suffering cancer patient, stress relief to the average worker and moments of inspiration to an artist. It is a natural plant and has existed in nature for millenniums and in society for centuries.
Why then, would we restrict its use in any way? Those who would like to grow it, should have the right to grow it freely. Those who would like to consume it should have every right to do so-- whether for medicinal reasons or for simple pleasure. Those who would like to make a business out of providing it should be given a framework and guidelines to do so, and should be treated similarly to any other business in America-- complete with regulation and taxation.
I do believe that cannabis is a very special plant. But I do not believe that its use is limited to medicinal purposes, nor do I believe that a doctor’s recommendation should be required to use it. I believe those who are providing it to others for consumption should be required to prove the safety and purity of their product, and should be held to a health and safety code no different than any pharmaceutical manufacturer or food provider.
I realize that it’s difficult for an industry that has lived in the shadows for so long to slowly creep out of their hiding places and enter the mainstream. There are definitely some negatives associated with it but, in my opinion, the positives outweigh the negatives by leaps and bounds. The industry (i.e. - growers/vendors) will simply have to adjust.
I believe we will see the nasty, corporatized cannabis conglomerates that you fear. But I also believe there will be a thriving, local, organic and respectable sect of the industry, just as there is with wine, beer and vegetables. Personally, I’m willing to accept the former in order to legitimize the latter.
It’s hard to keep the Grow Sh*t thread going with a busted machine and all. I’m at work sneaking in some blog time.
I’m in Traverse City. At one of the Farmer’s Market club you pay $25 for vending up to legal limit. They are not patient or caregiver specific. So you see up to 15 oz. per peep in there. It’s a free for all with burning and vaping and electric sets. $5 cover charge. I have a free pass (very limited edition) Be careful! It’s easy to get twirled in there. We counted 55 strains the other day. The other one that I belong to is information based and run like a co-op. It does not have smoking but is lawyered to the gills. It’s 15% of sales going to the house on the supply side. It’s a nice office and conference room with 6-10 vendors on average. They put on hash workshops and other interesting activities. They work on philanthropy and try to put the best public face on the situation. What is nice is patient to patient sales are legal in commercially zoned parts of Traverse City. Up to 2.5 oz. per occurrance.
Traverse City is a really nice town. I’ve been up there twice; I really liked it. I would still rather be in Calumet or Marquette, but if I was gonna be in mainland MI, TC is probably where I would be.
I’ve learned that mixing coco and soil in your medium is NOT a good idea. There is about a 2 day differential in water retention. I am finding dry pockets in the middle of moisture in the experimental pots. The coco retains longer. Glad I only did that to a couple of the ladies. It’s either coco or soil.
Smart Pots are awsome! It forms a 2nd root ball! I love roots!
Another reason why Michigans Medical Law is so nice.
Question: I am a valid medical marihuana patient under another state’s law. Am I protected?
Answer: Yes, under Section 4(j) of the MMMA, a registry identification card or its equivalent issued by another state government to permit the medical use of marihuana by a qualifying patient or to permit a person to assist with a qualify patient’s medical use of marihuana has the same force and effect as a registry identification card issued by the Department.
Question: Is the MMMA recognized by other states? Can I travel to another state with medical marihuana and my MMMP registry identification card and not be arrested or charged with civil or criminal penalties?
Answer: At this time, the MMMP is not aware of any “reciprocity” agreements with any other states to honor the Michigan law. This includes even those states that have medical marihuana laws of their own, such as Washington and California. Because medical marihuana programs vary by state, you may want to contact the state you are traveling to for information on their laws.
