Least Favorite

“The Connection”.

Repetitive, ready for the radio, weak lyrics. One of my least favorite songs ever by this band I do so love.

the only album where i actually have more than one least favorite song. And the winner is…The Connection. AWFUL

Maggie’s Revenge, it bores me.

It’s between ‘Crowd Control’ and ‘Nothing’ for me. ‘Crowd Control’ makes me want to punch myself in the balls, though from what I’ve read, ‘Spread It Round’ (not on the album but from the same era) is worse.

Maggies Revenge

Secret Smile licks nuts.

that doesn’t change the fact that this album is amazing.

i heard the connection while eating at tgi fridays not too long ago. oh god.

Although the connection is way to poppy. I would have to say that Maggies Revenge is my least favorite song on the album becuase it doesn’t go any where. I bet they could have made it pretty cool. another complaint about the album is how Crowd control and nothing sound way to much alike for my liking. they should have put Nothing on a different album. I think I would have liked it better if it were on roundroom.

two versions of me

although, none of it is as bad as jennifer dances.

i think jennifer must dance like me

Secret Smile…I’m at work listening to this, and I’m not allowed to fall asleep, but how do I not?

Secret Smile and Tommorow’s Song

A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing. It’s the only one I skip when listening to this otherwise perfect album. On the other hand, the performance of it at SPAC was one of the most mesmerizing jams of the tour, so go figure.
There are a lot of folks who think The Connection is boring or too poppy. I can’t imagine how anyone wouldn’t enjoy it. It’s catchy the way a pop song should be, with a sweet melody and a great overall sound that, at 2 minutes, doesn’t even have time to get boring. I guess “pop” is a dirty word these days because most pop songs do stink. As for Crowd Control – its all about the harmonies (and Fish’s excellent fills). And Secret Smile, feel that emotion in Trey’s vocals and the gorgeous closing section. It warms the coldest of hearts.

army of one dont get me wrong i love page and most of his stuff but that songs music and lyrics just suck my vote for worst phish song ever

i’d rather hear bouncin’

Woaaaaaah, shocks your brain?

I’d have to say Maggie’s Revenge, or Secret Smile. Maggie’s Revenge just seems like it starts in the middle, and seems like a mess…

and I don’t think Secret Smile needs an expliantion.

I think now maybe we see that The Connection was pointing the way toward ‘Shine.’

Although I do like the acapella “Grind” on this album, the one-off performance on 12/29/98 was one of the biggest letdowns in concert. I remember Tom Marshall’s good contribution to the 12/30/97 show by singing “500 Miles” and was hoping for something good during the 98 New Years Run. Well, Grind was only 10 seconds long and did not help improve the show which was good but not better than average for a New Years run show.

man i really like the whole album keeping in mind it isnt a junta or a picture of nectar or what not…and for whoever said army of one sucks…im not gonna criticize your opinion but I simply just dont understand that…i really think its a very nice relaxing song

Tomorrow’s Song. It’s a bit boring for me. But with that said, I think that this album is fantastic. I could care less if the songs are “poppy.” You’re listening to Phish for chrissakes. PHISH = GOOD. The only thing that should matter when you’re listening to Phish (or any music for that matter) is whether the music is pleasing to your ears. When I’m feeling shitty or want to just chill out, I put on Army of One or Nothing or any song from the album.

Damnit man, I’m not gonna let this album go down in flames! If I have to, I’m going to get all of the Undermind-haters (I know that not everyone hates the album) and put them in a room and make them listen to the entire album while watching Specimens of Beauty, ala A Clockwork Orange.
