Led Zeppelin to Play

I looked for the last thread about Zeppelin reuniting, but couldn’t find it. Well, it’s official. I’ve been hearing this rumour since I was in 9th grade (2001). I never thought it would actually happen.

From jambase.com:

The rumors have been confirmed, Led Zeppelin will reunite, but for only one show. The rock & roll super-legends will play a one-off gig at London’s 22,000-capacity O2 Arena on November 26 as part of a tribute to Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun, who died last December. Led Zeppelin recorded for Atlantic its entire career.
Joining the three surviving members: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones will be drummer Jason Bonham, son of the band’s original drummer John Bonham, who died from a heart attack in 1980.

Also performing at the event will be The Who’s Pete Townshend, former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini. Profits will benefit the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which provides scholarships to universities in the United States, United Kingdom and Ertegun’s homeland, Turkey.

Tickets costing

the facts that they’re only playing one show, John is dead, and how old they are lead me to say “meh”

Led Zeppelin is already legendary enough. No need to come back 30 years later for one show.

cough cough

Pink Floyd

cough cough

haha

I agree with you somewhat, hank, but for those that have the chance should definitely check it out. I mean, plus, it’s not about what any of us think, it’s what they want to do. I think it’s cool that old, and i mean OLD, friends are wanting to get together and jam for a few days, especially for an old buddy that passed.

I don’t really think they’re trying to make their legend any greater.

Floyd reunited = same Floyd that played the Wall

Zep reunited = that loser from that show where Sebastian Bach was wearing the Buried Alive shirt on drums. Jason Bonham is only remotely cool because he was on the same show as a Phish shirt. Think about that…

This reunion gets the world’s biggest “meh” from me…I’d be more excited about a Yardbirds with Page reunion, and even that I would probably scoff at.

never been a huge zep fan myself

::cleans shit off thread::

sorry guelah

The Floyd playing together was mostly cool because of the acrimony … there wasn’t any w/Zep, so there’s no drama really … plus as someone else said, Floyd was the original dudes.

on the same stage as a Phish shirt … haha!

I like that The Who at least released a new album. Dang fine album too, IMO. If Zep were to release a Zep album, I’d be interested. I’m not so hung up on concerts like so many other music fans.

if they did an extensive tour and tix were reasonable under 100, i would consider seeing it, just for the sake of being able to have seen page and planet do their magic together before they leave this dimension and move to the next

Zep reuniting for one show is interesting. What is their true motive? Money or to pay homage?

::ponders the hettiness of having Zep in Shows Seen Stats::

My point is, these guys had an amazing history together and want to jam together. More power to 'em! Atleast they like each other. Gilmour and Waters obviously hate the ground each other walks on. I’m sure they’ll rock it the fuck out too, for old dudes. I think they just want to have some fun. And yeah, make a little money too, why not?

Bonham’s dead, yeah that sucks. It’s obviously not gonna be the same or anywhere near it. It’s like saying The Allman Brothers suck now because Duane and Barry are dead and the survivors are old. Yeah, it’s different, but they are still fucking smokin’ in a different way.

And I say who better to “replace” another musician than their kin. Especially kin that knows the licks very well. I’m sure if Jerry had a son, he’d be rockin’ out some Dead licks.

EX: The Zappas.

also ponders the head-tea-ness of having a Zep show in Shows Seen Stats…

wanders toward Drunk/Stoned thread

I for one will be registering, though rate my chances of actually getting a ticket as very low. I can’t begin to imagine how much they’ll be on eBay. I’m having hard enough time securing Prince & Springsteen tickets (that’s two seperate shows tehre, not teh two of them together - what a thought)

I won’t allow myself to get excited as chances are I won’t go, and the track record of classic bands reuniting and actually recapturing some of the former magic is quite bad, but if anyone can do it… I’ve seen Percy live twice and he fills his set with Zep stuff (No stairway though) and he was great. Saw Page and Plant in '95 and they were a little underwhelming, despite or perhaps because they had a 10-piece band.

The new Iron Maiden tour looks good though.

It’s working for Van Halen, so Zeppelin is hopping on board!

;D

Foreigner bitches!!

i would think these guys have enough money, but you never know the spending habbits of rock stars

A few points:

-Seriously, is this even a complete SHOW? It looks like some sort of festival thing where they’ll only be out there for a few overplayed songs. It barely seems even worth it.

-And seriously…is this really THAT much different then the two “Page and Plant” tours?..it’s basically the same show with John Paul Jones onboard this time. It’s not that big a deal, really. They already did it, and I saw them then.

-Plant’s voice has been steadily getting worse and worse each time I hear him. I’m not sure what he’s got left.

-I wasn’t that impressed with the Floyd reunion anyway. Much like Page and Plant, Floyd was already touring with the remaining three members without Roger and I thought they did perfectly fine. All the reunion showed me was that Roger can’t sing at all anymore and would probably stink up any reunion tour since they’d have to play a bunch of Roger’s songs that he can’t sing anymore. The dude they had playing bass during the tours without Roger did just fine.

Sorry…I love Zeppelin but this doesn’t interest me at all. At least with the Cream reunion they did a full show…

Stevo

It would be neat… I saw Page & Plant in the 90’s it rocked… They do not need money…and the fact that it is in the 02 arena, shows this is a small event…

On another note Plant recently recorded a new album w/ Allison Krause and are going on tour. Not that I’m a huge fan but that there is some fine musicianship… and I did hear a track which was quite splendipherous.

Hell, I hope they do play and blow people away, why not, does age define music? Hell if you enjoy it and can play it and your comfortable with your ability, get out and share it…

Shame on anyone claiming age as a factor for not touring… If they’re comfy doing it, fuck yeah do it!!!
