Light

this is the best studio song on Joy taboot. It didn’t jump out at me the first few times through the live stuff, but I like it more with every listen. Is Joy not a great studio effort? I love it!

Listen to the MSG Light. Fantastic. This song is definitely the new jam vehicle. It has been solid all year long. Light owns 2009.

^Agreed 100%, it’s a very nice jam vehicle. That Light jam at MSG was probably One’s favorite jam to come out of a new song.

Light has grown on me with more listens. Still think it sounds like a lost “Tommy” track but there is nothing wrong with that. I think the potential it has shown as a jam vehicle has a lot to do with my improved feelings though.

I’m listening to Light from the Greek and I think it’s finally developed into a great jam. Not to mention the great lyrics. I’m really digging this song these days.

Is it wrong that this is my favorite Phish song?

yes, but not entirely your fault.

I actually was just listening to this today and was thinking how much I like this song.

They didn’t do much with it as far as dark jamming in Broomfield, but all the versions from this summer really seem to be taken out there.

I love the lyrics, very grave and dark if you think them, like the last moments of being alive or something.

Interesting interpretation of the song. Maybe that explains why the jam almost always gets really dark.

After rereading the lyrics with that ^ in mind I could see that perspective. To me, dark Light jam’s in particular are interesting. You’ve experienced the dark if you’re seeing the light getting brighter. I think the band draws on past darkness during dark Light jams as a way of celebrating how far they’ve come since their respective dark periods.

6/11/10’s Light is the prototypical dark light. Trey plays a few dissonant strings of notes and Gordo Page and Fish start a descent into a Maze with some creepy whaling during Page’s particularly shrill organ solo.

and it was a medieval groove forest

Another spectacular light last night, possibly the best yet I think.

I finally ‘got’ Light during the Greek run. Wasn’t a big fan before that, but seeing it at Berkeley blew me away.

light>20 years later is money

I was just listening to this and it occurred to me that this could very easily be a Christian rock song

:eh:

:shifty:

^ I could defnitely see that. The whole purify my soul thing and what have you. I mean it could really apply to any set of religious or spiritual beliefs, but christianity is definitely the big one in our culture.

It does beg the question though; if Phish were to ever become devout Christians and their songs started reflecting that…would you still listen to them?

Funny you say that, that was my first thought after hearing this song. I immediately hated the song until i saw it in Cinci. Ever since then i have grown to appreciate it more and more as it progressed. Manchester Light is probably #2 favorite jam of 2010 for me.

I would probably skip to the jams when listening, spend less money on Phish stuff as a whole, and not sing along in my car.

Adam would be allowed to like Phish again.

Yeah, I said it.

snort!!!

A Light -> WTU would really get me. If I were to see such a combination I might cry.
