Loop Stations/Phrase Samplers

Anybody want to give some advice on what you use and why you do or dont like it? Ive been looking into the JamMan by Digitech, the several ones by Boss, and Trey’s Boomerang. I guess all have their pros and cons but what im most interested in is whats the easiest to use and also the smoothest. The thing that stands out to me right now is how with the Boomerang its so simple and all you have to use is your foot to control thigns. Any advice or suggestions would be nice. Thanks

p.s. im also interested in something that will not only sound good and smooth while im playin with my band, but also (maybe more importantly) help me imporove my overall skill…

i borrowed my friends for a few weeks… he had the red boss one in the single pedal…

overall very easy, though stomping at the right time took some getting used to…

get to save chord changes, can add drum beats, etc…

i want to get one for xmas

I messed around with them for a while. I’ve got an original Boomerang and I definitely used to get a lot of use out of it. The main problem with it is the extraneous noise. I eventually started switching to pedals that were all True Bypass, and the Boomerang just got forced out of my rig. I don’t really want it, so if you’re interested, shoot me a PM.

DON’T GO WITH THE DIGITECH! most Digitech gear, IMO, is crap. it just dosen’t sound good.

anyhoo, i know a few really knowledgable guitarists who swear by the LoopStation. the first one, y’know? i saw a guy at an open-mic using a Boomerang to great effect as well. i personally am most interested in the Boomerang just for the extra things you can do with it (like control note-decay, volume of loops etc).

but let me say again, avoid the Digitech poop pedal.

ub40, by extraneous noise do mean that static white noise sound you get? isnt there some kind of thing that eliminates that or am i wrong?

^thanks for the digitech info charliejack

Whoa! That’s the same exact one I use!

Just kidding, I don’t know what a loop station or a phrase sampler even is.

BTW spooks, i’ve always been meaning to ask…wtf is a Goethe? is it like an annagram for The Ego?

I use the Line 6 loop.
Pretty sweet and easy to use, plus has 15 other Delays and Reverse.

^i love that thing. as well as the blue one (envelope filters?). you can get some pretty demented sounds using those two pedals.

I have the purple one, too, which has a little of vintage moog-like effects.
Had the blue a while back, but got rid of it.
That was pretty much standard effects (chorus, reverb, flanger…)

i dunno if ur limiting urself to just hardware loopers, but ableton’s live is somethin that u can torrent easily if you hav an audio interface for your computer. They have alot of the properteis that someone before was mentioning, aka u can change the section of the song and it’ll by default change it after the measure ends.

Also, i’m pretty sure there’s a way to get snippets from mp3’s and turn them into loops in live if u want to. havnt done it myself though.

my live experience has been in syncing it with reason, when I do solo shows, and use reason as a looper and use live for looping vocals through an audio interface.

go with the Gibson echoplex with loop IV It can do some amazing things

im not a big fan of looping, it’s cool and all, just not that big of a fan

i think my friend has both the boomerang and the boss loop station, i believe he linked the boss loop station into the boomerang and has a shit ton of loop capabilities

if you ask me that’s just plain loopy

have fun

Looping is fucking awesome. It just is.

Just buy yourself a Keller Williams.

I believe they are on sale at CostCo now. You could get a 12-pack.

the 30-pack is a better bargain.

yeah still not a fan of looping

cool stuff, but just not a fan

i guess im uncool

but looping helps you play better ya seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

im not a fan of keller williams style looping but when trey does those insane wall of sound loops how do you not like that?

I had the Akai Headrush for awhile, but it was stolen. I’m looking into getting the Boomerang.

By the way, Martin Dosh is a SICK looper. -> http://youtube.com/watch?v=qdlVLx5q3yQ

^^^^^^What I was saying earlier was yeah, its like a high-pitched white noise type sound caused by the pedal. They have those noise reducer pedals out which are supposed to take care of the problem, but I never tried one. Also keep in mind that mine is the V1 Boomerang, the original like Trey’s. I can’t say whether they’ve made any improvements in the newer Version 2 Boomerang +'s.
