Lotus

The STS9 and DB thread mentioned lotus and I think they should be in a totally different category then that discussion. I have seen them many times, and each time they get better and better. Some of their best shows have been in small, indoor venues but they really upped the stakes at all good music festival late night last summer. I’m not sure if any of you caught that.

Has anyone seen them? Thoughts? Rants? Raves  ?

picks up around 3 minute mark. :sunglasses:

They blew my mind years ago at Wakarusa, check out the 05 set I think it was. Not really my musical likint normally, but I can dig these guys.

Rocked me at Rothbury in 2009

never seen em before, heard good things…not usually my kind of thing, but I see no laptops so I’m probably gonna check out that show in Atlanta on the 17th

i like them and have seen them a few times, but i find them to get a bit repetitive sometimes, but i guess that happens to me with sts9 too. i really enjoy them though and their stuff reminds me a lot of sega music, which is cool when they drop their sick pacman light show.

They have done a legend of zelda teaser during a few of their live shows before. I caught them doing it in pittsburgh, it was a pretty cool surprise.

I have always thought that umphreys was more sega/8bit sounding than lotus. My only complaint with lotus is they don’t take some of their songs to a climax of a jam but instead repeat things. When I saw them at all good last summer they were very climatic and jammed super hard. I think they are taking it to another level recently. I’m excited to see where they end up in the jam scene in a few years because they are gaining a decent following.

love me some lotus… back when I made that sts9/Biscuits thread Lotus was still very small. I went through a faze where I loved Lotus way more than any other band but I think that has gone back to sts9 now and when it comes to a live show then phish over anything.

i think it was 2007??? yeah, 2007 at all good when they opened for ratdog and brought down the fucking house. best set, by far, that entire weekend. the set is on archive.org.

Although I’ve only seen them once, I agree that most of their songs (of the ones i saw) never climaxed but rather repeated what they had goin on at the time. Don’t get me wrong, I like Lotus, and I look forward to seeing them again (SC or WAKA 2011?), but ya gotta love when a band builds up then just slaps ya in the face with a big climax.

webephishin, you just described sts9.

huh?

never seen these guys live, although they’re playing in DC this february and I think I’m gonna check them out. We’ll see how it goes!

Lotus is great i have seen them 4 times and they never disappoint. to me they are different from bisco and sector9. for those who have not seen them i highly recommend going to see them.

The only time I ever saw Lotus live was at the 10,000 Lakes festival playing a late night spot…which seems to be a great time for them to play, however, all I remember about the show as this one shady dude who had a little blanket set up in front of us and he basically spent the whole show selling what I assumed was Meth. It was a white crystally substance that people were coming up smoking and buying off of him and leaving there very sketchy-like. Not that it has anything to do with the band itself, but that was the main memory that stuck with me from that show, and it kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.

I’ve listened to some of their stuff since and I like them. They’re kind of like STS9, but a little more organic sounding. It’s not the kind of thing that I could really get into, but I’d definitely go see them again if they were playing close enough to me.

Lotus definitely isn’t my favorite sound but MAN can these guys throw down. Saw em 2 or 3 times last year and every time i was about as floored as you can get with a show like this. If theyre in town go see em. Definitely worth $10-20

First time I saw Lotus was at Dead Creek campground at Deer Creek in '04. They played this stage set up in the middle of the campground.

It was effing awesome. I was spun upside down and couldn’t seem to get myself turned around.

Jenn Hartswick played after but it got shut down by the po po.

Saw them again at Rothbury in '09 late set. It was mind bending and awesome.

I don’t think I would get down so much had I not had a head full of goodies each time, but at the time it was amazing.

Def not into the jamtronica music at all, but after a show or at a festy it is the perfect late night/ early morning music

I think that they will eventually be one of the bigger bands in the jam scene. They are popping up at more and more fests and getting better and better time slots to play in. They played late night at all good on friday night. Saturday it was yonder. Its going to happen. Not that I love jamtronica music, but sadly its getting more and more popular in jam scene.

You have to admit, bands like lotus and electronic stuff is fun to get your dance on too. Always high energy.

I feel the same way about them. I don’t know if I could dance or get into their grooves as much as I have if it wasn’t for being

Going to see em tonight! Let’s see what these boys have to offer…

think I’m gonna see em next thursday…pretty sure I can round up a crew
