Major League Baseball: 2007 Season

^ I did watch the the game and you are right about how brilliant both teams played. So why does it take us playing each other for all the talent to come out? We could have used a few games like this against
KC, Oak, Tampa etc! At the end of the ninth it could not have been more dramatic. 2 teams tied for 1st with equal record’s and going into extra’s. Hopefully last night is a spring board for us and a bad omen for them. Our next 12 games are against either Cleveland or New York. If we deserve to win it will be the next two weeks that proves it!

Of course we have some dude named Jurrjens starting tonight against Carmona. Be still my heart.

I loved that game last night. It was great to wake up this morning and see Granderson have the 1 spot on SC’s Top 10.

^yah, who the fuck is this guy? He was playing AA ball? I never hoid of em. Battle of the brawns, I think Carmona is like 0-4 in his last 6 starts?

In the Iron Sheiks voice " Phuck d Carmona. He doon respek me i make iim humble!"

Carmona’s been bad lately but it’s still a a miracle that he’s as good as he is as a starter when he was so god-awful as a closer last year. Remember when he had like four-straight walk-off homeruns hit off him as a closer last year…that was horrible. I remember Pudge hit one of them and even with the Tigers winning, I felt bad for the guy.

JURR-ZOOM

DETROIT (AP) – Comerica Park is a long way from Curacao.

Jair Jurrjens pitched comfortably for the Tigers in front of almost 43,000 fans Tuesday night – as if everyone was behind him back home in the Dutch Caribbean islands.

Jurrjens allowed one hit in his second major league start and Detroit got consecutive homers from Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen to edge the Cleveland Indians 2-1 in the opener of a key three-game series.

“I’m going to remember this for the rest of my life,” Jurrjens said.

The right-hander outpitched Fausto Carmona and carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning until Jhonny Peralta homered with one out for Cleveland’s only hit of the game.

For the first time in franchise history, the Indians’ lone hit was a home run. The last time they had only one hit was April 15 in a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

When Tigers manager Jim Leyland came out of the dugout to replace Jurrjens, the pitcher puffed out his cheeks, exhaled and walked off the mound to a standing ovation.

“My phone is going to go crazy tonight,” said Jurrjens, adding the game was televised in Curacao. “It’s just a dream come true.”

Joel Zumaya, just off the disabled list, and two other relievers helped Detroit hang on to pull within a half-game of the AL Central-leading Indians.

Alright Angels in the oufield, I know you got one more in ya!

As glad as I was to see Zumaya waltz in and throw five pitches, I was kind of pissed that they took Jurrjens out. The dude had only about 78 pitches and could have easily thrown a complete game…that dude was filthy all night. Nice to see Zumaya hitting 98-99 on every pitch again…not seeing him made me remember how few pitchers can do that.

As for the Tigers…ug…who knows with this team. Sheffield’s out again, we have no clue if Kenny Rogers will ever be back and the hitting and pitching has been fairly inconsistent. It’s getting to the point where the only way they’ll win the division is if Cleveland chokes even more than the Tigers do (which is possible). The AL Central went from the best division to possibly the worst in a matter of months. Ah, baseball…that crazy ole sport. Hopefully the Tigs can actually win a bloody series today. I’m going to the Tigers/Yankees game on Monday which should be good…it’s Verlander v Mussina which is good…I like both pitchers a lot. I’ll be sure to bring my purple lipstick to support A-Rod.

So far this season we’ve seen:

A-Rod start the season on the hottest tear ever for a player.
A pitcher get his 300th win (Glavine).
The all-time home run record broken.
A team score 30 runs in one game.
The fifth-longest consecutive scoreless innings streak pitched (42 innings).
A former wild pitcher who had been out of the league 2 years come back and hit several home runs.
Not to mention that the divisional races come next month will be incredibly close.

Did I leave anything out?
