Major League Baseball: 2007 Season

you guys getting scurred in chowderland?

Even if the Sawx were to lose out to the Yanks in the AL East, they’d still have the wild card obviously…but you’d think it would do some sort of psychological damage if that were to happen. But then again maybe not, the Sawx are tough and battle-tested.

I’m little scurred to lose the division, though I’m still confident about making the playoffs. Hopefully these last crappy weeks are an aberration and all of the injuries and whatnot will be exorcised before the playoffs begin. Otherwise, this season will surely have been a disappointment.

And what about those Mets? Geez. They’re only nursing a 2.5 game lead and they don’t have any series w/ the Phils left.

And where the hell did the Diamondbacks come from? They have the best record in the NL!

yeah, f’n dbacks. no idea how they’ve hung around this long. im just glad the padres are on a tear right now and have closed the gap to 1 game in the div. the phillies were basically neck and neck with the padres until last night when they lost, giving the padres a 2 1/2 game lead in the wild card. they play the pirates in an early game today to finish off that 4 game series. its their last home game of the regular season so hopefully they can finish off with back to back sweeps and take a 7 game winning streak up to san fran.

red sox will make the playoffs either way but i dont think going in as a wild card will give them much motivation. it was mentioned somewhere before but imagine if the red sox never won in 2004, how much of a devistating comeback this would be by the yankees? yikes.

i love september! football is starting up and baseball is full of playoff races.

I read Bill Simmons on ESPN Page 2 and although I think he’s the biggest homer in the entire sports world, one of his sports “rules” is that if your team wins a world championship, there’s a 5-year grace period to where you can’t bitch/moan about anything no matter what.

I am a firm believer in this.

So BoSox fans can’t complain or bitch about anything until October of 2009.

And I can’t complain about the Colts until February of 2012.

I don’t think he abides by his ‘rules’ sometimes. And though he has a hard-on for new england teams, he generally gives you a straight story, often laced with great referencial humor. You’re just mad he hates your Colts.

lets go pittsburgh, the other PA team needs ya to pull through and help us out some

I love Bill Simmons too which is strange because I can’t STAND the Red Sox or Celtics and he writes about them all the time…yet he’s a good and funny enough writer that I don’t mind most of his homerism all the time. At least he doesn’t hide it like some folks like Peter Gammons…

I’m a firm believer in the grace period too. Just last year the grace period for the Michigan State Spartans basketball team ran out…of course I would never complain about them since we have Izzo and Izzo = God.

I do laugh when fans of teams like the Red Sox that are ALWAYS in contention constantly bitch about their teams yet meanwhile there are teams like the Pirates and (until very recently) the Tigers whose teams don’t even come CLOSE to the success of the Red Sox. The absolute worse are Philly Eagles fans who bitch, bitch, bitch about their team despite them being one of the top teams of the last five or six years running while I’m sitting here with the Detroit Lions and their one playoff win in 50 years and I’m supposed to take them seriously. It gets a LITTLE ridiculous.

Appreciate what you’ve got, folks. Yeah the Tigers are out the playoffs and it’s frustating cuz they could have easily gotten in with some better play and less injuries…but that’s how it goes…I’m just glad that the Tigers aren’t out of contention in August like they always used to be.

And I’d be very worried about getting the Wild Card, Sawks fans…you do NOT want to run into the Angels in the first round. (Of course, we were saying the same thing about the Tigers having to face the Yanks in the first round last year and it worked out so who knows…baseball is a weird sport).

Well the freakin Red Sucks have been a top team all year. This slide couldn’t have come at a better time! Way to go Papelboobs! :stuck_out_tongue:

I can rip on the Sucks all that I want because I’m not really a fan of anything or anybody. Everybody sucks. ;D That includes me too, I’m the worst of the sucks which is everyone… and no one. Nobody sucks. Except for the Red Sox, they are sucking big time. lol

Had the Yanks taken at least 2 of the last 3 they played in Boston, I might have the balls to agree that the Sox suck. But remember what the Tigers did last year? They tanked at the end of the regular season but came back to win it. Any team can have a slump at any time. A good team will be a good team in the end, however.

The Yanks DID take 2 of 3 the last time they played them in Boston, and 3 of 3 the last time they played in New York. Care to revise that statement, good sir?

The Sox have lost 5 of the last 6 to the Yanks. Thats not good. But at least theyre not the Mets, who’ve lost 7 straight to the Phils.

But since the “wild card era” began, history has shown you don’t have to end the season hot, or be a division winner to take the World Series Trophy.

^So true, anything can happen when it comes down to a 5 or 7 game series. Go playoffs!

The guest on PTI tonight just predicted a Cub/Yanks World Series.

Can you imagine? The only matchup better would be Cubs/Sox (if Boston hadn’t won the WS in 2004 it’d be the highest rated WS EVER!).

But yeah, I’d love to see Cubs vs. Yankees.

Lovable losers vs. Evil Empire.

Good article on teh_stockings:

Repeat after me, Red Sox Nation:

It’s not 1978.

In 1978

In the words of Flava Flav: YEAH BOIEEEEE!!!

Tell Pittsburgh thanks for the 4 game sweep. The timing couldn’t have been better.

The Mets are lost. Their bullpen is in shambles.

Oh Darren Oliver, Chad Bradford and Duaner Sanchez where have you gone?

Last year all the Mets starter had to do was go 5 innings. And it was locked Down as a win by the 'pen.

What the hell was Jorge Sosa doing in in the 9th inning in a mus win situation after he pitched 2 innings the night before?

Where the fuck was Billy Wagner?

I like Willie, but he’s made some bad decisions this year.

And the Skankees cant lose a game if they tried right now.

Remember this almost happened in 2003? The Yanks beat the Sawks in Game 7 of the ALCS when Boone of all people nailed the walkoff and the Cubs blew it against the Marlins in the NLCS (and somehow a majority of the blame went to Steve Bartman despite everyone else in his section ALSO reaching for that foul ball).

And of course I thought it was hilarious since everyone was begging for that series and I hate both teams (the only fanbase more whiny and annoying than Sawks fan is Cubbies fan). Even better, the Marlins beat down the Yanks in the World Series so my three most hated teams ALL went down to a team where no one ever goes to the games. Now THAT, my friends, is karma.

Not to mention that I love how the far LESS annoying fanbase in Chicago (White Sox fans) actually had a LONGER drought between championships and you almost never heard about it even as they won it all in 2005. Go figure.
