Yes, the Mets suck. I can finally say it. THE METS FUCKING SUCK. And any Met fan can eat my ass.
This SD-COL game is CRAZY!
OW! COL JUST WOn. 9-8 in the bot of 13th. Talk about a tiebreaker.
i was too angry last night to type anything in here but you gotta be fucking kidding me!
1 - holliday never touched home plate. period!
2 - why did it take the ump so long to make the call?
3 - just because barrett dropped the ball doesn’t mean holliday is safe
4 - i knew hoffman would let up at least 1 run
5 - why didnt hoffman walk holliday to at least have a chance for a double play?
6 - i knew hairston was going to jack that 2-run hr
7 - the rockies batter did not hit a homerun in the 7th inning. coors field rules says the ball has to clear the yellow portion of the wall. it clearly hit the bottom of the yellow therefore its a live ball.
8 - that was one of the best baseball games i have ever seen
9 - i feel spoiled as a colts fan and being able to see my two fav teams play in two of the best games this year (afc championship game)
10 - when the rockies swept the padres i said i would route for them if they made the playoffs
11 - i gracefully tip my hat to them and hope they advance to the world series
I would have loved to stay up to see the end but I fell asleep.
From the replays this morning, it would appear that his hand never touched the plate.
I think the ump hesitated because:
- He didn’t actually see it since Barrett was blocking his view, therefore the hesitation to make a call
- He might have assumed that since Holliday didn’t immediately scramble back to the plate (like most players do if they are aware that they didn’t touch home plate), that he was safe.
Got anything to say now?

Thank god we don’t have to hear from you Tiger fans anymore as well.
Isn’t that just like baseball? You’ve got this sweet winner-take-all game, we finally get to see the Rockies on the East coast for once, it’s going back and forth with tons of exciting moments…and ends in a horrible, horrible fashion and left me with a bad taste in my mouth for the game and the sport in general…and I didn’t even have a cheering interest.
Booz has a total right to be pissed…
-Holliday obviously didn’t touch the bag. It didn’t even matter that Barrett dropped the ball since Holliday never made an attempt to get back to the bag anyway since he’d slammed his face into the dirt during the slide and just layed there. I love how the ump was signalling safe even before Barrett had a chance to tag.
-And how about some props for the right fielder (sorry, don’t know the name) for that SWEET throw to home. I thought for sure that was an easy run for the Rockies and he made the PERFECT throw to home for what should have been a double-play. That throw was super sweet.
-Sorry Booz…that home run didn’t hit the yellow line…it hit the wheelchair behind the yellow line. It was a home run. Look at it again. But again, that’s baseball for you. A simple replay rule would solve this rather than a bunch of old farts converging in a circle when none of them saw it.
-The worst part about the Holliday run was the umpire CLEARLY didn’t see it…there’s no way he COULD have since he was standing directly behind the catcher. I seriously think that he looked at Holliday, saw he wasn’t even moving to tag the base for sure and assumed that Holliday knew that he’d touched it and called him safe. That was pathetic. I love how these umps have such an ego that they don’t even have the balls to say “Hey, I didn’t see it” and then confer with the rest of the umps about it. Instead he just made a guess, assumed that he’d touched it and called him safe. That was lame and cowardly. And again, a simple replay rule could solve this stuff in a second.
-And I’m sorry…I don’t see a lot of Padres games and I didn’t see him a lot earlier in his career but EVERY TIME I see Hoffman in a big game, he blows it or comes dangerously close to it. Like EVERY frickin time. I even made a joke before he started to pitch that the Rockies had purposely allowed the two runs in the top of the 13th since they knew they would get Hoffman since they knew they could nail a few runs off him since they were having no success off of the other Padres pitchers…I MADE THAT JOKE BEFORE THE INNING STARTED!! I know he’s the all-time save leader but does blow games as much as I seem to think he does?? I know he blew the game against Tony Gwinn Jr too. He blew the All Star game for the NL a couple years ago too. What’s up with that?
With that said, I probably am on the Rockies bandwagon if only because they’re such an underdog and such a forgotten team. Though frankly, any team other than the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubbies is fine by me.
Stevo
From what I could tell the ball didn’t go over the wall but the camera angles they had were shitty.
Hoffman has slipped a little this year. He’s blown 5 games since mid August. Unacceptable from the alltime saves leader. He was one strike away on Saturday in Milwaukee, which would have clinched a wild-card birth. He def seems to let up runs often and I believe that is due to his age. He starts each season off very strong but come August he gets tired and his pitches don’t fall where they should be. He leaves lots of pitches up in the zone as he did last night. With 2 strikes he tries to get the strikeout instead of making the hitter chase or even hit a grounder. Batters seem to wait for his changeup now that his fastball is only in the mid/upper 80s. I see him playing 1 more year before Heath Bell takes over the roll in 2009.
Damn Bell/Brocail/Thatcher pitched gems last night!
[EDIT] BTW, Brian Giles (SD RF) did make a perfect throw to the plate for the potential double play. I couldn’t believe how spot on it was. [/EDIT]
When I was a boy, they brought me pride and joy, but now they only bring fatigue.
In the land of the brave, and the home of the free, and the doormat…of the…NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATIONAL LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAGUE!
Congrats. I mean no hate for the Cubbies, and even sport the hat that I got at Wrigley last year. You can thank Steve Goodman for the kind words above.
hoffman blew the two biggest games he’s played this year, the All Star Game, and the WC playoff game, thats got to hurt, I just knew when they brought him in it would end up being a tied game, didn’t think the Rockies would win that inning though, i figured they’d end up playing another two innings, which i was routing for, i wanted the longest game in MLB history as to tire out which ever team won as they will play the Phillies. Tomm is going to be so much fun, I can’t wait to get to the park.
Sux he didn’t touch the plate, they really need an instant replay overruling for certain instances in the game. ie homeruns, and tag outs, but they don’t want to make the game take any longer than it already does, i for one wouldn’t mind, but some pureists throw a hissy fit when you mention instant replay
So what are everybody’s official MLB Playoff predictions?
Mine:
NLDS - Philly over Colorado, 4 games to 2
- Cubs over D’Backs 4 games to 3
ALDS - Red Sox over Angels 4 games to 2
- Cleveland over Yankees 4 games to 3
NLCS - Cubs over Phillies 4 games to 2
ALCS - Red Sox over Indians 4 games to 1
World Series - Cubs over Red Sox 4 games to 3
(This is partly a combination of what I’d like to see and what I actually think will happen)
um the alds and nlds are only 5 game series
so
nlds
phils over col 3:1
dbacks over cubs 3:0
alds
sox over angels 3:2
yanks over indians 3:1
NLCS
phils over dbacks 4:2
yanks over sox 4:3
WS
phils over yanks 4:2
yes i am a dreamer
In my mind they’re 7 game series.
That game was a lot of fun last night. Craziness. I couldn’t believe it was still on when I got to the bar, and I was able to watch the 13th inning. Good for those bandwagon Rockies fans. haha I bet that place has never been that packed.
I don’t know anything about the national league…the Phillies are the only team I would really care to see win. I can’t see the Saux or Yankees losing the first round. I thought I was going to go with the Indians all the way, but I’m doubting that now. I think, unfortunately, the Yankees return to glory this year and win it all.
Thinking about it some more, a Cubs/Phillis NLCS would be pretty sweet. I’m hoping for that now.
yeah i’ll hope for anything that involves the phillies getting out of the first round
My prediction is the Yankees LOSE LOSE LOSE YOU BLOODY BASTARDS LOSEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRR!
So the Indians in one game… I don’t care if its 5 game series. DIE! DIE! DIE! CHOP! CHOP!
boobies/ thank you.
Other than that as long as everyone loses but the Red Sox and the Phillies win a bunch but fall to the Mighty New England Heros everything will bee fine. Cool even.
As long as the Yankees LOSE TO DEATH.
As long as the Phillies beat everyone else but the sOx. Because then they will LOSE LOSE DIE LOSE.
Unless I change my mind.
But I won’t.
Unless I do.
go stockings.
ALDS Indians (3) Yankees (2)
ALDS Angels (3) Red Sox (2)
NLDS Diamondbacks (3) Chubbies (1)
NLDS Rockies (3) Phillies (1)
ALCS Indians (4) Angels (2)
NLDS Rockies (4) Diamondbacks (2)
World Series Indians (4) Rockies (2)
If the Rockies make it that far they’ll be too spent from not being able to rest their starters down the stretch.
heading out to the game in about 2 hr’s. gonna go get my mid day wednesday tailgate on
go phills, this first game is a huge one to win. We win this one we’ll take the series.
Bud Selig wouldn’t come out and explicitly say this yesterday on PTI, but you can bet your ass he’s secretly rooting for a Cubs/Red Sox or a Cubs/Yankees World Series.
After the dud of an NBA Finals I’m anxious to see a great World Series.
