Major League Baseball: 2007 Season

^Roger Clemens is the first name to be leaked.

Bad day for the Bronx.

Shit, Jason Giambi already admited so there is 2.

I can’t wait to read this thing.
This is gonna be the best report since the Ken Starr report, the one that talked about Clinton getting a blow job.
This is gonna be good.

Yeah, this could be some big news. Heavy dirt.

What are we to make of steroid use? Obviously professional sports does not condone its use but these sports hero’s must find themselves in such a desperate frame of mind to use. At that level of competition it must drive them mad thinking about how to get an edge.

As Captain Jack Sparrow so eloquently put: “There are no rules, just what a man can do and what a man can’t do.” I guess these users are the pirates of the sports world.

Hell, even old-timer Gary Player said that he thought guys were juicing on the PGA tour.

More Names:

Andy Pettitte

I think this comes down to 1 thing.
Men being selfish.

You just don’t become a better player at age 38 (aka Clemens & Bonds)
They want to stay young forever and sorry, it just doesn’t work that way.
And then they get upset about the investigation.
Like Mark McGuire who said “I’m not here to talk about the past”.
Uh, yeah you are you ass-hat.
And he wonders why he won’t get into the Hall of Fame.

I say screw them.

These guys have the opportunity of a lifetime and then they get greedy.
No Hall of Fame, no retirement benefits, no nothing is what I say.

-end rant-

^I can’t say I totally disagree with you. I do think the punishment should fit the crime and its definitely not fair to the other players who put in nothing but hard work to attain their goals. So a heavy punishment seems to suit. There should be no remaining sense of glory for steroid conviction only a sense of shame. That’s what makes players like Manny Ramirez so great. Sure he’s a bit of a wild child but the man is a pure hitter and he works hard to be that way.

That all being said I do believe in 2nd chances and in certain cases 3rd chances… tho that would be rare. I don’t know what that means in context of steroid use but if these athlete’s can admit and somehow atone for their usage than the punishment could be less. Tho the stain left by the illegal usage could never be erased from the books and heavy fines and relinquishment of some benefits should be mandatory.

I think Selig needs to throw the book at everyone he has hard evidence against to set an example. As in, suspending someone for 1-2 years or even banning them for life. I’m dead serious. I think that would work well. That’s how our justice system works, right? Deterrence?

I also saw where ESPN is devoting SIX FUCKING HOURS to this. 1p-7p.

^How about it!
Shoeless Joe Jackson & Pete Rose come to mind.

The gambled (allegedly on Joe’s part) and they are banned?
They didn’t even cheat.

These other guys are literally cheating the game and other players and they get a slap on the wrist?
Come on.

Selig needs to be banned in my eyes.
He’s the one that is running this game into the ground.
Talk about being out of touch.

A couple year suspension sounds great. Esp for these guys going for the records. Whats the punishment these days? A fine and a stern talking to?

I believe this was put into effect as recently as 1-2 years ago. It’s still not nearly as harsh as it should be. I have a feeling that will change heading into next season.

Banned substances:

so where can i read this report?

^they should increase those suspensions. Shit, players are out a month or more for pulled hamstrings or constipation.

Looks like the league is not serious about steroid use. I’d say, considering where we are starting with those suspensions, they should raise the first offense to 3 months during play, or half the season. 2nd offense suspension for the whole season or equal to 163 games… 3rd time 2 seasons, 4th time perhaps for life. Christ if you can’t get it straight by the 4th time around then get in a new line of work. By the 4th suspension you’d have already missed 3.5 seasons.

I believe ESPN is starting coverage at 1pm, and Mitchell himself (I think) will release his findings live on TV in a press conference at 2:00pm EST.

2 of those guys are dead! And a lot of the other ones are all-stars, some even potential HOFers.

Yikes.

Board Member 1: I’ve never heard of half of these guys and the ones I do know are way past their prime.

Charlie Donovan: Most of these guys never had a prime.

Board Member 2: This guy here is dead.

Rachel Phelps: Cross him off then.

haha, probably not.

For anyone interested, you can stream the conference live at www.mlb.com. That’s what I’m doing. They just mentioned the NYM clubhouse manager…

Selig also has a press conference live at 4:30 in New York City.

Here is the full report for your reading pleasure:

Not sure where you got that list.
No Kerry Wood, Mark Prior.
Some are on it some are not.
No Albert Pujols either, but I’m still reading.

This report is pretty juicy though. (sorry for the pun)
They describe alot of how the players got and used them.
Even got carbon copies of checks paid for drugs.
Crazy.
