this is the one song ive always wanted to see live. i know its not the norm but i would have taken this over a forbins, harpua or destiny. but thats just me…
how about a “McGrupp” AND “Harpua” in the same show?
7-29-03
;D

7.29.03 is THE best, tightest, coolest version of McGrupp I’ve ever heard!! 11.15.96 is very good too, with an extended page solo
yeah, my friends and i were so spent from the west coast legs of that tour i couldnt talk them into going to this show. DOH!
How about McGrupp>Harpua. 12-30-97. I’ll take my 97 over my 03 in this case!
Ahh McGrupp jams are so chill. I love the main riff.
This song is breezy as hell and trips me out (in a good way) sometimes. It’s always fun to hear cause they didn’t overplay it.
I’m listening to the 8.7.93 version right now. Great stuff.
Does anyone else remember hearing this song for the first time? I sure do. It was the first time I heard the LIVEPHISH release of 7.29.03. I was completely intrigued by it, especially when the lyrics came in. What a unique and interesting song, lyrically and compositionally. And of course the jam in the middle is usually completely different than the previous version. If Page is on fire, this jam section can be incredible.
When I think of Gamehendge, I think of this song more than any other. Maybe its because the Gamehendge “theme” (the music played during the narration parts) is played during Page’s solo.
I really wish I would’ve seen a McGrupp.
Sometimes I confuse this song with TMWSIY. The song, not the concept album. I was whistling McGrupp at work one day and my boss started to pick it up.

Creamy, orgasmic, McGrupp facemelter… this song steals the show, best version I’ve ever heard. Listen @ 1:21 into the song (the point where the song fully materializes)… the crowd melts into bliss. This is no hose, this is a steam bath. Very dynamic version, tops off a very dynamic show.
I owe Zone 2 for this tid bit, thanks!
I have caught a few McGrupps… 7-2-94, 12-11-95… don’t know if there is a phish song I like more.
^ I need to hear that show.
May I recommend:

This second set blew my head off.
Shit this whole show.
This McGrupp was so perfectly placed it was ridiculous.
After the Real-Gin I thought I was gonna pass out.
It felt like we all went into this dream at the show.
Kuroda was working his magic for sure.
In fact I think this was the first show when I realized the power Kuroda had during shows.
Anyway, check this McGrupp out. VERY tasty.
I was happy to see this twice.
Only hometown show, and last show.
Always good memories.
Never was a big fan of McGrupp.
I guess i used it as a piss break…
Although, I do enjoy this version

One of my favorite Phish tunes. I’m not sure why. I’m not crazy about the lyrics. But the recurring musical themes in this song are unmistakable … just brilliant stuff. And it wasn’t too common. And the title is funny-lookin’.
McGrupp is Phish!
I can’t believe only one person has mentioned the Reggae/Funkified McGrupp from 6/25/97. One of the best second sets in Phishtory and this McGrupp is what takes it from Great to one of the Greatest.
I’m not crazy about the lyrics.
“We lie on frozen warthogs, with its poison in our minds, while the ferns that spot our children are encased in orange rinds…”
Whats not to like!?!
is that right?
what the hell is this?

Nobody has mentioned 7-19-98!!! this is the best version I have ever heard. the whole show is incredible. really chill and funky jams including YEM, and wolfman’s . both of these are amazing jams that are just really chill and laid back. THen McGrupp includes an extended jam almost on an ambient level but one of the songs that really showed me how mind altering phish itself can be.
