Vote!
This one gave me the most hesitation from this region. I love “Chalkdust” but I give the slight edge to “Mike’s.”
I voted for Chalkdust in the first round. But its run should end here. Mikes is such a versatile Jam. Great as a Set opener. Great as a second set “centerpiece Jam”, even the rare set closer with delay loop jam ala 12/31/95 is the heat.
I have to vote for the underdog here. I love the end of the guitar solo when Mike doubles Trey all the way down that run.
Mike’s Song, Mike’s Song, he’s got a knife…
Although Chalkdust is signature Phish music, Mike’s is more timeless and maleable.
Besides, how long can Trey mean the words, “can I live while I’m young”?
Mike’s owns! See 12-30-99
Wow, just realized if Paug can pull off a 2nd round upset we could have a Mikes Vs. Weekapaug matchup in the next round. Thats like Indiana Vs. Purdue, or Syracuse Vs. Georgetown.
This doesn’t even seem like a contest to me. Chalkdust is great, stunning, amazing, but Mikes is one of the coolest things ever composed by anyone. It always jams from the very first version I have, which I think is the first performance of it. It never fails. You can say that post-hiatus is got a bit bland, but that’s only because you suck and know nothing about music. Mike’s is a garunteed good time. Chalkdust is always fun, but it’s short lived.
Mike’s: It does a body good.
i guess it was just time for mr. mellow to vote for some rollicking rock n roll underdog…
gotta give a vote for bigdudeinthedoorway.
I always chuckle at outlandish statements like this, but I can’t say I disagree!!
Totally Chalkdust for me.
Know why?
Because Mike’s isn’t the same as Mike’s>H2O>Weekapaug, that’s why.
If it was the entire saga it’d be no contest Mike’s>x>Weekapaug all the way.
But Mike’s by itself, while fantastic, isn’t enough to compete w/the Chalkdust.
The 12/31/95 Mikes on it’s own beats any Chalkdust ever played. (It does not go into anything, it just ends set 2)
Mike’s Smog. Bring on the evil.
I like early chalkdust, non-jammy straight-up rocker. No need to meander chalkdust but phish sometimes jams things that don’t necessarily need a jammed out thing, sure!.. which is part of the appeal, of course. But mikes begs to be jammed out.
mike’s is just a minor penatonic scale jammed over ted nuggent’s stranglehold. and trey has said as much in guitar player.
chalk dust for it’s energy.
