Mike Gordon Debuts New Band, New Material

Last evening at the Iron Horse in Northampton, Mike Gordon performed with his current quintet. The band also includes Scott Murawski on guitar, drummer Todd Isler, percussionist Craig Myers and Tom Cleary. The group debuted much of the material from Gordon’s forthcoming release, The Green Sparrow (set to hit on August 5). In addition, the band offered up covers of the Beatles’ “She Said, She Said” and J.J. Cale’s “Ain’t Love Funny.” The evening concluded with a version of the Phish song “Meat” that segued into The Green Sparrow’s “Dig Further Down.” Next up for the group is a performance at the High Sierra Music Festival on Friday.

Nice! Is that the first time Mike’s busted out a Phish song in a solo Mike setting?

so he has covered phish tunes in his other projects

Yeah alright…you’ve all proven your points. I’ve definately heard that Foam and The Wedge and YEM and Mikes both of which he did with the Duo. Good to seem him pulling out the meat for all the kids still.,

i know. i bought one (as a gift for my brother) a while back. in fact, it’s the one in your avatar. so for me to complain about someone else playing one is pretty much assinine. but that someone else is playing with Mike. that’s what makes it weird for me.

but not really.

it’s just a guitar.
