MLB 2011 Thread!!!

Thank GOD we only have to pay over 4.6 of his 4.7 million dollar contract…

Yeah, I am heading to the Twins V Boston game tonight… I am guessing the Red Sox win 11-5…

I hope the Twins trade…Errrrrrr yeah they did not make any moves and here we sit… Sad…

Well, Tigers are well on their way to blowing their lead over Cleveland. I was surprised to hear we have a 13 or 14 game losing streak at Jacob’s field and this series is going no different. Doug Fister (a good pick-up and we kept our best prospect) was good in his first game and got rained out in his second on Tuesday. Got the losing-streak-stopper in Verlander today to save us.

Hey, Twins win… Twins win!!!

It is now Progressive Field… but…

Congrats on the new statue Ron Santo! We miss you #10! :frowning:

Is it fair to say that I was just grumbling during the Thome 600-Homer fest? For one, milestones like those seem silly to me since they don’t exactly mean anything…he didn’t pass anybody on the HR list, didn’t set any records, etc. It’s just some arbitrary number that people create. Not to mention that I’ve had to watch Thome kill my Tigers for years and those two homers on Monday actually killed that game for the Tigers and then the crowd applauds him? Blarg…I can’t rip on the fans for a nice gesture but…ug…if I was there, I wouldn’t exactly be in the mood. I read somewhere that he has 56 homers against the Tigers…that’s almost 10% of his career total against one team. Leave us alone, Jim!!

And then there’s talk that he’s a sure-fire Hall of Famer? Wait, what? Just because he hit some number and had some longevity? In his whole career, has Thome ever even been in the Top 15 players in the league in a given year? Jack Morris has three rings, carried numerous playoff appearances and had more wins than anyone in the 80’s and he can’t get in but everyone assumes Thome is getting in? Really? Of course…maybe I answered my own question…Thome is considered to be super nice and a great guy and Morris kind of wasn’t. I guess the secret is just be nice. As usual, baseball drives me nuts.

And ug…I don’t get it…Jose Valverde has not blown a save for the Tigers all year…but has been awful in any non-save situation. We’ve seen it, the number adamantly back it up…and yet there he was being trotted out in the 9th in a tie game against the Twins last night. He loaded the bases with no outs before eventually giving up the game-winning hit to Morneau. I don’t care if it’s “contentional wisdom” to pitch a closer in that situation…the numbers, as weird as they may be, don’t lie. Anyway, only up two on the Indians and we’re playing them this weekend. Scaaaary.

Dude Thome hit 600 home runs. That is A LOT of home runs!! That is no arbitrary number, that is just a very very large number that he deserves major credit for. Impressive to say the least.

^I will agree with that. It is a lot and is a good amount of consistency. In fact that consistency is what has probably driven away all of the roid rumors that would normally follow a guy like that.

The Cubs have fired GM & V.P. Jim Hendry!

Well at least something positive has come out of this season.

^Probably means your manager is next…though they might as well let him finish out the season…no reason to soil another coach’s record with that team.

Twins dead, good night Mary Sue Ellen…

Wow, pretty awesome sweep of the Indians by the Tigers, right when they were sliding out of first. Big pitching, big hitting and we could save Verlander for the Rays yesterday (against Niemann who always owns the Tigers hitters).

Twins game tonight and after that pathetic showing against the Orioles last night, the focus is on drinks and fun times with good folks…

Wow, four-game series between the Rays and Tigers in Tampa and the Rays scored 2,1,3, and 0 runs in the four games. Not so good for the Rays but great for the Tigers who just took 3 of 4 and the starters are almost all looking pretty good, especially Doug Fister. That’s 6 of the last 7 and we’re maybe finally pulling away in this division. Keep it up, Tigers!

3 grand slams in 1 game.

'nuf said.

And… That is all folks. 4 game sweep at the hands of the very lowly Orioles…

Just sad…

Ohh, and Joe (I play when I wanna play) Mauer had to take the day off due to general soreness… This while Michael Cuddyer played after he left the night before due to getting beaned on the wrist with a 90 MPH fastball…

He makes 24 Million this year. His stats and games played so far?
Season Stats
G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
70 258 74 13 0 1 25 30 23 33 0 0 .287 .347 .349 .696

So, look at it this way…
900K Mil per RBI
24 mil per HR
Oh, and he bats 3rd… Great stats eh?

He’s a catcher…may want to get used to it. When we had Pudge he’d get maybe two days off a week because that what Leyland wanted…usually the day games. He wanted to preserve Pudge as much as he could and Pudge wasn’t even injured for the most part. Mauer IS coming off injury though…he may not be right until next year since I’ve seen a lot of these guys be crappy in years where they have injuries. Look at Delmon Young…he got traded basically because injuries killed his season. (Thanks for that trade by the way…he’s a much needed Magglio replacement). This time off for Mauer may be on the part of Gardenhire and management to preserve this guy as long as they can…besides…it’s not like the Twins are on the comeback trail…if there’s ever a time to let him take his time in getting back and fully heal then it’s now.

And how does Morneau get a free pass?..This guy was out for almost a year and a half with a concussion! And it’s BASEBALL!
