MLB 2011 Thread!!!

(Looks at upcoming schedule)

Actually, on second though, I’d say all those guys need all need MORE time off. Like let’s give Mauer and Morneau the entire weekend off. And hey, give Cuddyer the weekend off too. It’s the nice thing to do.

:unamused:

Mauer just came out and basically states this…

“I do not work out in the off season as hard as I should and that is changing. I see a need to change my off season and the Twins are prepared to help and assist in a new plan.”

Basically he is a whiner. I spent 10 days playing and working out with some of the Twins this past January and Mauer was solely rehabbing his arthroscopic fixed knee. He then missed 2 months due to ‘Bi-Lateral leg weakness’…

He missed 4 games due to stiffness and ‘general soreness’…

He has played 1B and RF more than he has caught these past few weeks…

No passes on the 24 million dollar homegrown boy…

Remember when I said it’s kind of a scary idea to spend 24 million on an injured catcher? And then you said “You’ve GOTTA do that to keep a guy like that”? I doubt either of us are “right” but the Twins reap what they sow.

Funny how just one season of injuries can turn things around on a guy so quickly.

The signing was expected and I agree, that 1 season wasted on injuries does turn things around… But, having said that - Mauer has taken the off season in a very passe way, if you will… And he did it again after signing the 184 mil contract.

Now, back to the contract~ Not only did they sign him because of his work with his bat, but he is the hometown hero so to speak and he ‘sells’ TC stuff like no other local product… So they gave him 24 mil per year to sell seats, jerseys, beer and to play at a top level for the next 4-6 years behind the plate…

The saga continues!

Either way, I say just write this year off and let Mauer take whatever time he needs off…if he doesn’t feel right then that’s tough on a hitter and especially a catcher. Let him rest and be ready for next year but if he pulls the same stuff again then well…uh…

^Agreed, as there are no other options I can see anyway…

I just hope he actually works out and develops a plan that can keep a 28 year old 24 million/year athlete healthy.

Ummm, go Tribe?

Watching a Yanks/Boston series is sometimes some of the boringest baseball ever.

^It’s a guaranteed four-hours almost every time. I was watching a Tigers game in the 7th the other day and then looked at the score of the Sawks/Yanks and it was still the 4th inning…and they started at the same time. Unless they play in the playoffs or late in the season in a tight playoff race, I usually don’t care…they play too much anyway.

GO CUBS GO! There is still a chance! :wtf:

Twins are done, what a CRAP year, unreal.

Wow, nice work of the Tigers to sweep the Sox and basically take them out of it for a while…especially on Saturday when they came back from 8-1 down to win it.

Just won at Jacob’s Field last night which has been a place of nightmares for the Tigs lately so that’s a good sign. Especially with Doug Fister outpitching Ubaldo Jimenez. The guy who the Tigers got because they didn’t want to pay the price for Jimenez smoked the guy the Tribe got to beat the Tigers. Not a bad deal.

I was about 4 rows back from the Victor Martinez homerun… and had a great view of it bouncing off a girls shoulder. Other than that, meh.

Okay, time for Tigers stats.

The Tigers have now won 11 in a row and 20 of their last 24. They were only a game and a half up in August (and their lead had been about this close all year) when this run started and now have the biggest lead in any division. We’re actually a half game behind Boston for 2nd in the AL when it seemed impossible to catch them earlier. Plus a majority of this run has been against all division opponents though the Tigs have been good in division all year.

And then there’s Verlander. He’s won 11 games in a row which is the first time since 1943. He just racked up his 23rd win and the 24th would be the first time since the 80’s. Silliness.

In a nutshell, this run has been ridiculous. We’ve certainly won some close ones but it seems we get that key hit from someone in all of these games and in some of them we just blow the doors off of them. It’s hard to say if the magic will continue but it’s hard to fathom. I don’t know about anyone else but I’d love for a shot at the Yanks in round 1. They’ve got Sabathia and that’s about it right now.

Okay, this is getting silly. Tigers down 5-2 in the 9th to the Sox then hit a solo homerun and then a two run homer by Avila to tie it and we’re off the bottom of the 9th. Just ridiculous.

Tigers suck ass…

^Verlander is having a career year. Dude is pitching so good. 23-5 & 2.3 ERA. :open_mouth:
And it’s not over yet, he could win a couple more.

I just want the playoffs to start. Get this season officially over for my Cubbies.

RAWR!

Oh well…win streak finally over possibly due to a late West Coast swing. It was funny when they were down 4-1 early and I was almost expecting a comeback. Either way I think the magic number is 1 or 2 so we’ll be clinching soon. Unless, of course, Leyland decided to take his “collapse in the second half” stigma to a whole other level.

Dude, B, it was over back in June! Kinda nice to sit back and enjoy the summer without the hopes getting up just to be dashed!

Justin is officially Koskie’d…

for those who know baseball, you will get it…

for those who need help…

Koskie was concussed on the play in that photo up there, it helped end his career too soon…

Morneau was concussed on that play up there… He still has not recovered 1.5 years later…

He “MIGHT” be a DH but that is not even guaranteed…

Sad…
