MMW Halloween Extravaganza!

Ok Dudes, who’s in? Medeski Martin and Wood are playin at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC (one of my favorite venues)

im strongly thinkin about it, and since its a weekday and all my friends with “real jobs” will probably be doing some lame anyway I might as well go!

Where is it FB? I havn’t heard about this yet.

count me in as a “maybe”

if i’m in Boston by then (please get me out of this town) and i have some stability and the ways and means to get there i’ll be there.

but who knows what’s going to happen to me by then?

BUMP! So is anybody goin to this? I’ll be there! I cant friggen wait

since i’m now moving to Asheville instead of Boston i’ll have to drop out of this extravaganza.

sorry Funky, i was looking foward to it too.

Alright, well here is my review from last night…

First off, I just want to say “Holy shit that show was fucking awesome!!!” It was my first MMW show. I had heard a recording from there set from the Long Island Jazz Fest (Aug 06) and it was cool, but i was sure there was more to it when you actually saw them
Sharon Jones and the Dap kings did a killer job warming up the crowd, so we were all ready to dance our butts off when MMW came on.
The show started out with some beats and this chick on vocals. But we couldn’t hear what she was trying to say. Everything was so trippy that it sounded like she was speaking in tongues or something. Although I didn’t quite get the music, I was totally there lovin it. It was almost formless except the beats but I felt it and began to understand it. The energy in the room was amazing. Then my friend and I took a quick bathroom/drink break and got back to our spot in the middle section.
That was when everything picked up the pace and the funk was all around. At one point during the show i watched the boys on stage and it was amazing to see Medeski just bangin on those keys like he was dancin with his fingers, and Chris Wood just slapin that bass, and of course Billy Martin’s beats were siiiiiiick! Sharon Jones also rocked up there with them and sang a cover of “Sunshine of your Love”. It was sweeeet! I couldn’t stop dancing, and I made friends with pretty much everyone around us, everyone was so cool and friendly! And I got to rock out with Jesus, behind us was a dude dressed as Janis Joplin and a white guy painted as Jimi Hendrix and a legitimitly old dude (who I like to call Jerry, because he could have sorta passed for him with that bunch) And some Pharoh dude was also gettin down with his bad self!
It was an all out dance party for pretty much the whole show that I never wanted it to stop! The whole place was ragin’! The encore could have gone on forever in my book. Before I got there I really didn’t know what to expect from this show, and thats always what makes something special. No expectations.
I wasn’t sure I was gonna find my groove in the jam, but I did and I loved it the whole way. I looked over at my friend who I came with and she wasnt dancing like she usually does, and I couldnt tell if she was having a good time. Sometimes that brings me down when i see ppl not having a good time. But oh well. then she went over to some other friends and the negative energy left, it was weird. So, in final analysis, Medeski Martin and Wood kicks ass and I can’t wait to see them again!

You didn’t see them @ 10LKS? You missed out.
That’s what made me a fan.

Sounds like a great show. After watching them on the Vegoose stream I’m really excited about seeing them this December in Chicago. Looks like they are playing great.

Nice review Funky.

i know i feel like such an idiot for skipping it now, but the past is the past and RAQ kicked some serious ass that night too. dammnnn i still cant get over how friggen sick that Halloween show was, I cant wait to see them again!

Glad you had a good time Funky!

That setlist looks pretty good and the encore would have been great to see. Cat Creeps and New New Orleans are some of my favorite, along with Pappy Check.

Wish they were coming a little closer to me…

damn i really wish i knew how to work bt.etree
but i dont think i’ll ever understand that flac business.

it’s pretty simple funky

You need a few programs

One for the torrents, http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ or another option http://www.utorrent.com/, that will download the file for you,

Then a program that will convert the flac files, such as http://mikewren.com/page.php?2 go to the download then follow the instructions on this page http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=FlacFrontend

That should work.

Or if you want to just play the flac files as is without any converting then try this program http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html download the program and play the file type application

If you are going to want to burn them onto a cd, the first process is needed

For you source whores out that like to compare (me included  ), here is another source:

Me and my band Ga-na-si-ta (Cherokee for Dogwood tree) is going to be opening for the Wood Brothers this Sunday!

^nice!

tell Chris i said “Hi”

he’ll know me as the guy that’s usually in the first 5 rows next to the fat kid with a red buzz cut that yells shit out to Billy in between jams.

I downloaded the first bt source that Will posted, and its pretty damn good!

I’m also posting this in Member Projects.

If anyone wants to hear a recording AIM me: littlejlittle

I don’t know how to post songs off of CDs and a direct connection through AIM is the only way I know how to do it.

EDIT: Will taught me how to use Sendspace, so the link to the recording is now in the Member Projects.
