what does everyone think of this song? i actually enjoy this. never saw it live, but the ones i’ve heard are enjoyable. lyrically, i dig it.
I like this song a lot. I think it fits nicely on the 7/10/99 release.
Cinci '03 was also some good placement in the first set.
I guess it needs to find its niche in a set.
One of my favorite “catch your breath and calm down, maintain reality”, songs
i agree with will on the 7-10-99 mist. the key to this song is placement. after a really crazy, intense or long jam, mist is a good way to slow down and relax. for example, the IT Ghost. 30 minutes of super intense jamming, and then a beautiful mountains in the mist. love it
Anytime they segued into Mist from a long/spacey/ambient jam, you knew it was a good night. This song always kinda sounded like a Dead cover…
I’d only heard this song once until recently. I’ve been giving it more of a listen. I like it. You guys are right about placement making a big difference. I’m listening to 7-10-99. It follows up 20 minutes of Tweezer in the second set. The meandering guitar lines are really fun and relaxed. Some of the lyrics don’t seem to flow very well, but other lyrics are perfect. “…while tiny clouds go sailing by.”
I really like this tune, ESPECIALLY, the Trey 5-4-99 acoustic version.
This song is probably Phish’s most underrated ballad. I dig the feel of it and the lyrics are quite pretty. Like I said earlier, anytime it segued out of a spacey or intense jam was cool. Reminds me a lot of a Dark Star -> Wharf Rat type situation.
Woven in the fairy-tales we fabricate each day
are little golden strands of truth that glimmer in the light
The colorful material we hold a certin way
can keep us from the cold
and help to get us through the night
IT!!!
ghost-> mountains in the mist…BLISSSSSSSSSSSSS
I’ll admit that i used to despise this tune, but have actually grown to love it.
a

I never really paid attention to this tune, to the point that when it came on during the Fest8 acoustic set (on the radio, of course), I didn’t realize what it was until I heard the lyrics. It caught me off guard on the Cobo recording, too, although now that I’ve been forced to hear it twice, it’s growing on me.
I thought the Mist was very Morning Dew like at Cobo… loved it
Never really paid this one attention but the Festival 8 acoustic version is THE version for me. I like this acoustic more so than any other version. It is crazy breezy and suits the pace and tempo of the song.
yea this and fefy and dirt r the best ballads i reckon… i like mist way more than lifeboy…theres too much religion in it
This song, right? I completely forgot about this song. I think I completely agree with Hank’s post. Why don’t they play this (or FEFY) more?
LOVED getting this last night!!!
