music that you listen to that you're ashamed of

Let’s face it, I think we all listen to stuff that is good shit, but maybe not necessarily stuff that we’d chat about with our buddies. Some of it could be so totally embarrassing, that we’d never breath a word of it to our bestest pals, in fear of constant ridicule and tease that would last a lifetime. Since I don’t know any of you personally, I will let these musical skeletons out of my closet, but no teasing, or else I’ll punch you in the eye!

Here is my list of stuff I listen to, but am ashamed to tell anybody:

Duran Duran, Peter Cetera, Billy Ocean, Coldplay, Bryan Adams, Madonna, George Michael,
Eddie Money, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Kenny Loggins, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack,
Rod Stewart, Richard Marx, Milli Vanilli, Billy Idol, Lionel Richie, the Bengals, 3 Doors Down

^^^there it is, girly music and all
I feel better having done this,
like a huge weight off my shoulders

:o

Oasis
Barbara Streisand

lmao at wind beneath my wings!!

that’s worse than my Whitney Houston!

i unabashadly enjoy quite a few of your choices up there KR. i can’t give you 3 Doors Down though. that’s just unacceptable

yeah, 3 doors down is like my girl’s favorite rock band. Let’s just say some of it has grown on me.
I’ve even been forced to attend a concert, which for the record, if there are any single dudes, I might highly suggest going to a 3 doors down concert as there is tons of hot ass chicks, and I mean TONS!

I didn’t think I’d catch too much shit for 3 doors down, I thought I’d take a verbal beating for listing Coldplay. There are no excuses for that one either, That first album with yellow I thought was the greatest thing in the world for a long time, I still think they put out good stuff, they just have a bad rap for whatever reason. Believe me though, i’d feel like a real douchebag if someone pulled up next to me at a light as I was rocking some Coldplay in my car lol

coldplay has some decent music, thats pretty much all ive listened to on your list,
i thought coldplay’s first album was really good

dude, I think the coolest thing on my list is Duran Duran
if you aren’t listening to Duran Duran, you seriously need to look into it
it’s so 80’s labeled, but the music is still really freaking good to this day
I’m still too ashamed to bring them up in public conversation though!
maybe this therapy will help me overcome my inhabitions! (is that the right word?)

did they sing hungry like the wolf
or something along those lines, thats the only song ive ever heard, and it didnt appeal to me

to be honest, I don’t know. I just recently got into them about 6 months ago. I remember them being a big deal back when I was a little kid. I bought one of those best of 80’s music cd’s, and there was a song on there that I really liked. So I went and bought the album which is ‘Seven and the Ragged Tiger’

It is really really good, you should take a couple of bongers and give it a listen and see what you think. I liked it so much I’m going to get another one soon I think. It is really good stuff musically

I agree. But Bette Midler is not on my list son.

FTR Fishman’s version of WBMW is killar!

^^ ill have to see what i can come up with
cant knock it til you try it so…

^Fishman’s version of WBMW is great, i laugh so hard everytime

I’m ashamed to listen to Modest Mouse, but only because they used to be good. I try to talk about them to people but all they know about is their newer shit and the hit singles. Seriously, ‘Moon & Antarctica’ and the albums before that are brilliant and unique indie rock.

I used to be ashamed of liking what little Nine Inch Nails I have but I’ve come around to the idea that a band I like has a lot of insufferable fans.

I’m re-ashamed of listening to Smashing Pumpkins because reuniting was one of the worst things they ever did. Not that it’s a real reunion since half the members are missing…still, ‘Adore’ is one of the most underrated albums ever.

I had to put this one on, pretty classic. 11/29/95 for those who aren’t familiar.

^ its a great show imo

My girl loves Duran Duran. They actually are really talented. And yes they do sing Hungry like the Wolf, but that isn’t the song that really defines them. I’m sure you have heard of Rio? Well anyways they are actually decent. They were ahead of their time in my opinion.

I’m glad to hear some love for Duran Duran! It’s not that I’m ashamed of listening to them, it’s just that most people are so uninformed and know a few overplayed singles. Their first three albums are excellent. The first, self-titled from 1981, is one of the absolute best new wave albums of all time once you get past “Girls On Film.”

As for some of the others listed… Oasis? Modest Mouse? Smashing Pumpkins? You are seriously ashamed of listening to these bands? Geez… I must repent big-time, then.

???

There’ a lot of stuff from the 80’s that I listen to that could be considered ‘shameful’ but there’s a newer band I still listen to that many people love to take a crap on, and that is The Strokes. Really like 'em, especially Room on Fire.

I would say Coldplay, they actually have some decent songs imo. Haha the ultimate, I loooovve ICP butt only a couple of my friends know about it, now you all do, I love ICP!

I started 1st grade in Sep 1980. Duran Duran was a staple in my formative years. Those first few albums were gold to me and my peeps back then. Most of you who are fans probably know this but for those who do not. In 1985 the band took a short hiatus creating 2 offshoot projects. Andy and John teamed up with Robert Palmer tho create the Power Staion who had a big hit with “Some Like it Hot” while Simon and the others created Arcadia which had a hit of their own with Election Day. Funny thing is that when they were on Hiatus Duran Duran actually had a no 1 hit. Just prior to the hiatus they recorded the Title track to an upcoming Bond movie called “A View to a Kill”. New Moon on Monday has always been my favorite tune of theirs. Excellent tune that was never overplayed.
