i’ve been playing geetar for about two years now and have gotten pretty decent. i currently employ an american strat, a fender champion 30 amp, and a crybabay wah pedal. now i’m wanting to start playing around with some sounds and different effects. can you guys give me your essential pedals and effects you use along with brands that you have had success with?
no matter what you cannot go wrong with a Ibanez TS-9, great distortion, at least thats what Trey and I think…
and if you are getting pedals, invest in the power cable you buy seperately… much easier than running through 9v batteries
i’m using basic boss overdrive and an ibanez tube screamer for leads.
Go with a nice overdrive pedal. If you are playing with other people maybe invest in a volume pedal.
I just started using a volume pedal more actively at gigs … really helps. Basically your band mates will never really indicate they’re impressed by your playing … but when you turn it down a smidge, they love that. And spare me the jokes about it being cuz I play bad! 
ive got a boss volume pedal, boss digital delay pedal, crybaby wah, and some kinda compressor.
nice guys, keep it coming. i wanna build me a sweet setup. i gotz $150 gift cert to sam ash, so it will be a good start, but i’ll prob spend more. for playing alone do you use guys use drum machines or anything. i got some people to play with, but the majority of my time is spent after work killing a few hours.
Drum machines suck.
I play a bit of drums, I used to have a crappy kit. Like right now after watching that KJ Sawka thread that augustus posted, I am just banging away. It is good for your guitar playing to learn drums (and some keys, if you can) just noodle if you are ever at a drummer/keyboardists place. It helps to build new ideas
dont get a drum machine… the way I see it, not worth it.
I have a digitech multi effects… however, wouldn’t suggest it. it’s so much more fun and way easier to tweak individual pedals.
Here is my current setup, with a few more on the way in the mail. Like everyone else said, TS-9 is a good pedal but getting it modded will make a huge difference. That ready one on the right is the Whammy, which is a pitch shifter/harmonizer. That’s real key to my setup. That Giga Delay is probably the best pedal that I have at the moment. I highly recommend that one if you’re looking to spend about 170 on a good delay. The one on the left of the board is a Mutron-III, used by Jerry to make the wah wah’s on Shakedown and Estimated Prophet. Everything I’ve got there is a great pedal, and if I didn’t recommend it, it wouldn’t be on that board.
The two green ones on the left by HomeBrew Electronics. The dark green one is a compressor/sustainer and the light green is PowerScreamer/overdrive. I also have TS-9 that’s not in the pic. The middle one is a Dunlop Wah and the far right is a Q-Tron enevelope filter. I think Mutron somehow became Q-Tron along the way, but I could be wrong.
so far this is giving me some good ideas. i’ll prob get a couple of things when i get back from minneapolis. where should i start? the screamer? also, do you guys all use pedal boards for your power linking? what is a good board?
go with a pedal board… saves the money for the constant replacement of 9volts (always unplug your pedals if you use 9vs)
as for good boards, i too am in search of one so if anyone has input on this feel free to elaborate

^I like loopers. I’ve had the boomerang in my setup for a couple years now but its started to phase its way out. I’m working on either getting or modding all of my pedals to be true bypass so that I don’t get any noise. Simply having the Boomerang plugged in gives a lot of hiss to your sound if you really listen.
what is the boss looper that guitar player mag rate as the best looper out there?
I think its called the Loop Station.
yeah, one of the loop stations. They have a nice selection of them now. the huge one, the double-sized, and the single tiny thing.
