I’ve been playing in a band for about two and a half years now. We payed our dues playing covers in dive bars all around the area, and have started writing tunes pretty recently. If you’d like to hear some of both, search Handsome Hal on facebook. I play guitar and mandolin in the band, and sing. We covered most of classic rocks back catalogue, especially touching on Dylan and the Band, as well as traditional bluegrass and blues material.
I recently converted from guitar to bass and am loving it…
have a trio with another guitarist (outta this world ability, going to berklee next year) and a drummer (tightttt)
anywhos we’re working on funds for a mixer and some drum mics, having rehearsals steadily for about a month now… writing some things and covering some Cream, Hendrix, Beatles, and Dead… recording to come eventually
Jazz guitar player here, I play with a sax, piano, drums and bass setup 4 times a week.
^^^Kenny Garrett’s the bomb, do you own ‘Standard of Language’?
I’m influenced by Rosenwinkel and the FSNT scene.
I play piano, drums and guitar. I’m not in any band at the moment, though.
I’ve played guitar for about 9 years or so. Influenced by John Lennon, Jerry, and heavily by Trey.
I play in a band called Lightajo which, I’m not too humble to say, is some of the sickest shit in Memphis right now. We do about 95% originals with covers ranging from the Dead to Talking Heads to Rage Against the Machine. You can hear recordings of all of these such things over on the Member Projects board on our very own Oh Kee Pa.
Indeed I own Standard of Language and it is BEAUTIFUL. I’ve heard much about Rosenwinkel from a guitarist I play with but I can’t say I’ve listened to him yet, I should get on that… any albums you recomend I should start with?
play guitar (washburn hb 35 - the tone knob for treble just got busted, i’m furious). i am in a band, we’re called Thesaurasaurus…i’m actually uploading a show we played on friday night to youtube right now.
I was in a post punk band for 10 years, I was the songwriter, lead guitar player. I also dabble in piano…
I’ve been playing guitar for about 15 years…mostly classic rock and blues…and alot of phish/dead. Not in a band anymore, but I will sometimes sit in with a couple of my friends’ projects. I’ve been trying to teach myself piano…I really dropped the ball because my mom used to be a piano teacher and I grew up with a baby grand in the living room, but I was “too cool” to learn piano in high school.
I’d start with The Next Step or The Remedy. He plays with a saxophone player named Mark Turner who has a mind blowing register. Less funky than Chris Potter, but with a vocabulary way deeper.
Been playin’ drums for about 10 years now. Played piano for 6 years before that. Dabble in bass, can not play guitar for the life of me. Was in three bands at once, quit them all (cus I moved), now just lookin’ for folks to jam wit.
Ok, felt the need to respond since you’re in MN, just barely (say hello to Fargo for me, I’ll be there 12/9 for The Black Crowes).
Guitar. Check the avatar. I won’t leave shameless plugs here…
for now.
Hey Glen, were you in “and and and” singing Needles and Pins?
We have an entire section of the board dedicated to this ;D
^I was waiting for that post, nice work !!!
DUDE!!! Beginning of the movie!!! That crappy band playing at the wedding!!!
Ya know, everytime I hear the horns from “All You Need Is Love”, think, hey, it’s Joey The Lips Fagan!

the Thesaurasaurus videos are from friday night.
I can’t tell whether to post in here or not … is this thread getting moved to the Member Projects sub-forum?
Anyway, the long & short of it is that I’m a singer/songwriter/lead guitar player/bass player who dabbles in drums and piano and records solo albums at home to the delight of tens of people.
Raising a family and working a day job, playing gigs on weekends mainly for part time income … those gigs are typically 95% cover songs, so I occasionally get out there and play for pennies in order to thrust my original songs upon the ears of innocent cafe goers.
I’m envious of those of you in gigging original groups. Live it up dudes.
