nanooks stuff

i’ve been hanging out with one of my old friends for the past few weekends and we made a few rough recordings. we don’t do a lot of jamming on these. i’m playing most of the music and backup vocals. he wrote the lyrics and sings. we don’t have a drummer so we used some loops. i really like the patsy 101 song.

and here’s some random stuff

Nice. Burning City is very nice.

thanks man, brad is doing that acoustic part on there.

i just put another one up. 4th of july. kind of a reggae sounding song.

again it was a drum loop, me doing the music and brad doing the vocals. he did the real clean guitar part too.

it looks like this site will only let me put 4 songs at a time.

Yeah Jae, I have to agree…Very nive that tune is!!

ok, he changed the link. here is the new one for anyone who wants to hear it.

4th of July inspired by Alpharetta?

diggity

^ not the lyrics but i had just gotten back from there so i’m sure the music was. i did a simple bass line over a drum loop then i did a whole bunch of guitar tracks. after i left brad edited them and put lyrics to it and played the really clean lead part. i had no idea he was gonna turn it into a song or i would have thought about what i was playing more

the lyrics are about when he was in the navy and him and a buddy were drinking on the 4th of july. they started shooting fireworks then started making improvised mega fire works and blowing up trash cans and stuff in the parking lot and “the cops showed up with their guns up high, on the 4th of july”

i really like the santana sounding part at 1:52. i totally made it up on the spot then the next week after heard it i went back over it and did the little harmony part.

Is this oh kee pa brad tube47 brad?

Either way, I dig it. Nice work Jae!

nah, it’s a different brad. glad you like it

i haven’t played any with that guy from the first link lately. i made a new page to put up random other stuff.

these are from a jam the other night at this dude’s house. i had played with the drummer and the guy singing roses before but i had never jammed with the guy singing folsom prison. there’s a pedal steel player in there too that i played with once before. i’m doing bass. so we have two guitars, a pedal steel, drums and bass. this was recorded near the end and we were all pretty lit and playing sloppy but i love listening to non professional random stuff that i was a part of so i thought i’d share it.

1= roses are free with a little set the controls for the heart of the sun jam at the end (ween/pink floyd). JJ didn’t remember the lyrics and i didn’t really remember the chords.

2= we’re only gonna die from our own arrogance (bad religion/sublime) old bad religion song from the 80’s but we do the reggae parts like sublime did too. this is pretty rocking.

3= folsom prison (johnny cash) this one sounds kinda jumbled with a bunch of people soloing all at once but it was fun and i had a good time. the guy singing is in an old country band with the other guys and they do this one.

i recorded all of this with my zoom Q3 in the audio only setting. enjoy!

New Desmond Dekker cover up on the Early Face page.

007 Shanty Town

Brad programmed the drum beat, I played all the music and we both sing. I do the low part. Desmond Dekker was a little out of our vocal range but we were ambitious. The bass turned out nice and loud on this one

We also have a Facebook page for you bookers of the face. This might take you there.

Shanty Town sounds killer. Nice stuff!

We finally all got together for the first time tonight. Here’s a clip of the practice. A little sloppy  We’re doing “OUTSIDE!” by The Ziggens. We also did a nice Fire on the Mountain and Scarlet thing which I’m uploading right now.

I love this vid. There’s nothing in the world I’d rather be doing than playing music with my friends

That’s me with the bald head and the blue shirt.

edit

here’s the dead tunes. the reason we actually found drums and another guitar is because this guy wants us to play his festival this summer. he requested fire on the mountain so this is us working out the chords. the scarlet part was the harder of the two and we kinda fuck it up but i think it sounds half way decent considering it was the first time we all played together. my bass is way too low on this.

More stuff with just me and Brad. Here’s our take of Marley’s Soul Rebel. Not the best vocals but it’s a bitch hitting those high parts

I’m doing the bass, acoustic guitar and you can here me beating on a floor tom a little. Brad’s doing the main vocals and I’m doing the back up stuff mostly. He did some of the back up stuff. Mostly the high parts where my voice was cracking

We were gonna have a full band practice but everyone backed out so we decided to record something instead. I took the “don’t touch the mic!” part at the beginning from the movie TRANS and then at the end I used a clip from Matt Hensley’s part in the old skateboard film Shackle Me Not.

Me and some friends at The Cellar Club in Spartanburg SC on 12-30-11

JJ - Guitar/Vocals
Sean - Pedal Steel and Fender Rhodes
Jae - Bass
Devin - Drums/Vocals

Been playing with these guys a little, we do mostly covers, everything from Talking Heads to Johnny Cash to John Prine. And a little Phish of course.

Here’s Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. I’m the only hairless beardless guy in the band
