NBC using phish at the Olympics?

Got a text today from a buddy that said, ‘anybody else just hear first tube playing on the olympics after the apolo ono interview??’ then another one saying ‘tweeprise!’ Nice.
I’ve been watching and gotta say haven’t heard any myself…bit dissapointed.

Well, I mostly just watch MSNBC and CNBC for my olympic coverage and I really haven’t heard any on those channels (except the KDF played in the arena speakers of USA/Canada). I think it’s more if you watch the main NBC channel which has all the girly sports on it you’ll hear more Phish. I’ll take my curling and hockey, thank you.

I heard the closing ceremonies were going to be Bouncin’ -> Rocky Top, but people were already booing.

I think now they said it’s going to be Emotional Rescue->Tweeprise

Phish Strikes Olympic Gold?

We’re receiving daily reports of Phish “sightings” during NBC’s coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympics, including:

* Ocelot was played during trials for the ski jump on 12/26/09.
* First Tube was used in the bump to a commercial about the upcoming bobsled competition on 2/20/10.
* Tweezer Reprise (a good 3 minutes worth!) was the background music for the Ono speedskating segment  late on 2/20/10.
* Kill Devil Falls (the version from Joy) was played over the PA at the Canada vs. USA men's hockey game 2/21/10, with about 15 seconds left in the first period. They played about 20 seconds of the chorus before the puck was dropped again.
* Axilla (Part II) (from Hoist) was played with about 8 minutes left in the second period at the same game.

Thanks to Andrew Cogan, Christopher Herrick, Christopher Lusk, Jeremy Pinquist, and Shaun McGrath for these recent reports - and to Scott Bartmanm who some time ago reported that Piper was used in cuts to commercials at the Olympics four years ago!

Other recent sightings include Good Morning America on 12/27/09; Seven Below as background music on 93XRT in Chicago in December 2009, advertising an upcoming concert by another band; and an Albany, NY, sportstalk radio show (104.5 WTMM The Team’s Sound off with Sinkoff) has used Sparkle and other Phish songs as background music while Alan Fish reads promos.

I heard what SOUNDED like Kill Devil Falls playing during the USA/Canada gold medal game on Sunday. It was the first period and before a face-off and was from the arena speakers. It was hard to hear what was being said but it sounded like the KDF chorus…but it was definitely Phish.

Well, it’s not the Olympics but we had some Phish on the Jim Rome show today. I guess they were talking about this story about Avery talking up Phish on Jimmy Kimmel or something. He was trying to fend off the “Phish sucks” e-mailers (standard fare for the show) and played some DWD to show that the music is perfectly normal for someone to enjoy.

^Yeah, the Phish subject took up most of the last hour with the goofy calls and e-mails on the subject. Rome seemed to know at least a little of the Phish lingo as he referred to Mike as “Cactus.”
