Need Help Downloading mkw

I am brand-spanking new to using shn and have been trying to get mkw to install on my machine. I’ve been following the instructions at etree for XP, but keep getting this message:

“The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.”

I tried to find mkw’s home page, but to no avail. I really want to get involved in lossless formats so that I can broaden my trading possibilities. Please help!

This link may help. I also may suggest deleting your file, and redownloading it. Something may have messed up in the download… Just my suggestion however.

not sure what the problem is… but you might try downloading off a different site. here’s a link to mkwact from pcworld: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23936,00.asp

you’ll also want to grab flac frontend as alot of shows are compressed using flac these days. once you have them installed these programs are really easy to use… just drag and drop, so don’t get discouraged.

i assume you’ve already grabbed a bit torrent client… but if not you’ll need that too. i just use the standard program from bittorrent.com - there are fancier ones with more options but that one works fine.

Great advice, guys!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Thanks, guys! I’m with you, VERNIXX; this place rocks, indeed!

I tried both suggestions, but to no avail. I have virusscan and my firewall turned off, I deleted the old download, and tried saving and running the program. I just keep getting the same “16-bit system” error message. This sucks! Anyone have any more suggestions?

damn that sucks… well… while it says its unnecessary for xp, you could try installing mkwact runtime libraries first. its really more of a stab in the dark than anything but it may be worth a shot.

couldn’t find any other sites with info… unfortunately weiss’s old site has been out of operation for a while now.

here’s a decent faq you might read through and see if you can make any headway…

there are comments on a compatibility issue under xp but the fix they offer sounds like you have to have the program somewhat operational… and it didnt sound like you could even open it. i’ll let you know if i find anything else…

Thanks, Zoot! I’ll try that.

Just wanted to thank you all for the suggestions. I fixed the problem (a missing autoexec.nt file), downloaded the program, downloaded a show, decompressed and burned a disc, and subsequently crapped my pants! Wow! This shit sounds great! It would be very hard to go back to MP3. Watch for my trading list to increase exponentially.

Thanks again and happy trading!

glad to hear you worked it out. now get some clean drawers, and strap in, cause it’s on.
