This is a serious Down with Disease, and wowza its great having video of this now. I just watched it for the first time all the way through.

The shots of Trey locked in, shredding are f’n great.

And I like how the jam pretty much just has three sections that are stretched out nice and evenly, and holy hell that segue into Mike’s has to be considered one of the best ever. Perfect. I always knew it was good, but seeing it now on video makes it even cooler.

This show really has a professional polish to it that Vegas and Brooklyn just don’t have.

Brooklyn’s pretty nicely done, IMO.

Vegas wasn’t all that bad.

And the segue is good, but it ain’t no “Drowned -> Rock and Roll.”

Fee, those clear things that look like teleprompters protect the other members of the band from any flying broken drum sticks.

I’ve been sitting on this DVD for about a week, just watched the first set last night with much enjoyment. I like the original arrangements…did anyone else notice Vultures didn’t have the second verse. Second set tonight.

Anyone wanna enlighten me on how to get into the woods on the IT DVD please?

From the main menu on disc 1 use the navigate back button until an arrow appears over the trees then select, if the disc is in your computer you can just move your cursor over the trees until the arrow appears. I “highly” recommend following their directions from that point. Enjoy!

DVD one is sick. I love that the opening music is the Water in the Sky. I enjoyed that one and the Taste. I rewound a few times to hear the thunder, and that version just kicked.

DVD two tonight.

Alright, I knew this was in a Phish Update somewhere… I think this is what you’re referring to.
found in LETTERS [mike replies] June 1998. I quote:

"Dear Phish: To the right of Fishman’s drum set is a clear plastic shield. What is that for? Is it in case Page gets a little crazy and decides to throw something at Fish? Just wondering, Evan Wolf, San Francisco, CA

Wolf: The clam/bubble gum pie was the last thing to end up splattering in Fish’s face during a song, and he said ‘That’s it - I’m getting the shield’. Actually, it’s because cymbals can be very loud where I stand, and if he is softer, I can be softer. The Neville Brothers used Plexiglass too."

I have been hoping they would release this for 11 years now, and I couldn’t be happier than I am with this (well thats a lie, i guess I could be) but it’s still pretty fucking grrrreat!

I watched the first set of this last night.

I hadn’t heard 7-22-97 in a long time, so I didn’t really know what songs were in the first set. So I loved the anticipation in between songs of what was coming next.

As far as the actual music…yes, the “Jim -> My Soul” is the first set highlight to be sure! The “Jim” jam gets funknasty near the end and the segue is glorious. “Stash” is short but sweet. The “Taste” is electric but other than that, nothing else really stands out.

I for one really have no complaints as to the camera angles, etc. What was Trey doing right after “Jim” started up? He made a couple of real surprised expressions.
