Sweet. I’m always interested in Mike’s work, speaking of which, we’re cruising into perfect Kottke/Gordon listening weather.
CLEETUS ALERT!

MAN YOUR STATIONS!
THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
I’ll drill your arse.
Wow! I LOVE this cd! It is a gem! Mike, you nailed it!
saw him on sunday in philly, was a really fun show.
i’ve yet to listen to the album though, will have to do so soon.
Listened to the album again and I just dig it. It really is creative, tasty and well put together as a studio disc. I also got an autographed booklet for the disc. ;D ;D
yeah I need to get this…do you think it’d be at Best Buy?? thats the only place I can think of where I could buy a new cd. I haven’t purchased a CD since probably Undermind.
Borders Books might have it as well.
WOW, this statement really drilled home how old I have become. It’s true you really can’t buy CD’s at many places in the USA anymore can you, and with selection? kaput!!
TOWER WOW, Music Plus, sam goody still around? no selection there though…hmmmmmm
Must be the terrorists and Bush working together…
I like the new Mike. I’ve listened to it just once and my first impression is kinda a mix between Grateful Dead and They Might Be Giants, or something. I don’t really care for the drum machine on a lot of the songs, but if Mike did all of the instrumentation ('cept for guest spots) I guess it’s understandable and forgivable. He included an autographed booklet just for me! What a sweet touch. Love you, Mike! Call me!
i recently saw mike at the gathering of the vibes and i was quite impressed with his performance, his solo music reminds me more of phish than trey’s solo work. the guitarist that is in his new band is the same guitarist that plays for billy kreautzman and he sounded awesome! i dont know if im crazy… but i thought i saw him playing a languedoc guitar. i was pretty far from the stage. but either way he had an awesome sound… and the band was great.
traveled too far and andelman’s yard are both great songs…i also like radar blip
Voices and Dig Further Down are goodness too.
I like this album a lot…
but not as much as Inside In.
traveled too far has Phish Song written all over it (doesn’t hurt that trey and page play on it)
i’m started to get excited about Comeback II
when I first heard Traveled Too Far I was thinking to myself…ugh this guy is totally trying to imitate Trey, pfft.
then I found out it is actually Trey playing on that song.
but the guy from Max Creek does have similar tone and style to Trey. Obviously not as good.
I like the album aight. Listened to it a bunch this past week. Definitely more “poppy” and less “weirdo” Mike for this project. I do think this songs can probably be jammed out a bit better than Inside In stuff, so that’s good.
I never want to hear the song “Pretend” again, and the last 2 or 3 tracks aren’t anything that jumped out at me, but tracks 1-3 and 5-7 I enjoy.
yeah, Traveled Too Far is for sure my favorite song on the album. Confirmed.
just picked this up at the local superconglomerate media outlet, and on first listen…i dunno.
nothing really grabs me by the sack and massages.
musically, i mean.
I know what you mean. I’ve only listened to it once through (including both bonus tracks). I DO dig it, most definitely! However, there were only a few moments where I really got into it (like one get’s into a Phish jam, except a much lighter effect), and they were brief. I do understand and appreciate that this is Mike’s original stuff, not Phish’s though. I would more than likely appreciate the album a lot more if I went to a show.
i’ve run through it a couple more times and i suppose it’s growing on me a bit, but i don’t think this one’s ever gonna be up there near Inside In or either of the Kotke/Gordon collaborations.
this is Mike-lite, if you will. it’s got all the mike elements (you know what i mean), just not in the exact way my ears like to hear them. and that’s fine.
my favorite tracks are probably the same as most of yours: traveled too far, andelman’s yard (both actually really good tunes). i actually like pretend quite a bit as well. mike’s love songs are like none other. not to mention it has a very simple and beautiful guitar solo, which is always a bonus.
