Suh-WEET! Stoked for some fresh Cactus.

They obviously need to get their creative thoughts out somehow.

Gordon also adds, “This album is kind of bass-oriented. Not in that the bass is the lead, but that the rhythms and the patterns are bass centric. The uniqueness is centered on the bass. So the bass is the key instrument. On Inside In, the pedal steel is the key instrument and if you had to say it for Green Sparrow, maybe electric guitar. But this time it’s the bass.”

Sounds like some crunchy goodness coming our way~

Kind of random, but the article had a reference to Ramble Dove. Those were great sessions… but I didn’t save any on the hard drive. Anyone have a link? Nothing on etree being seeded at the moment.

Ramble Dove…THAT’s the name of that group. I’ve been trying to remember that for a long time. I saw one set of their’s (Bonnaroo), and I really dug it. I don’t have any links, though. Sorry Zoot!

A couple tracks here, I can upload some to etree when I get home one of these days.

Are you insinuating that they don’t get this opportunity being a member of Phish?

I thought I used my italics correctly

^ Wait, I don’t understand what you’re saying. Personally, I wish they would dedicate all this energy they’re putting into their solo projects into Phish.

In my eyes, it is hard to deny the fact that 98% of recent Phish albums are Trey heavy (not that this is anything new). Page & Mike getting maybe one of their songs on the album. That is all.

Yeah I think it’s been ‘well documented’ to say the least that Mike and Page take a back seat and let Trey take the reigns for a lot of their material.

Reading this quote gave me a semi fo sho

^^Thank God, otherwise, how could we have ever hear Let Me Lie?!!?

Aren’t albums just one aspect of the band? Mike and Page very much get their share of input into Phish. It’s well documented that if they aren’t all on board with a decision then it doesn’t happen. I guess I’ve had this discussion before, but yeah Trey seems to be the one focusing on Phish. He goes on solo tours to further develop songs for Phish. This has been well documented. See 1999 solo tour and this past tour. I’ll give you the fact that during the hiatus the focus was solely on TAB and not Phish, but I think that goes without saying.

I don’t think Mike wants to write songs for Phish anymore to be honest. Listen to everyone of his interviews. He’s always going on and on about how he’s not the main song writer in Phish. It’s not his band. He wants to delve out on his own and be known for his own individual song writing …not as a member of Phish. I guess I see where he’s coming from. It just seems like he’s kinda acting like a baby (Mike that is). Leaving messages on his hotline and whatnot. I’m just one opinion and I’d be willing to bet that my opinion is not the majority, but it’s honestly how I feel.

I’m prepared for my flaming…

^ What’s he been saying on the hotline? I haven’t called it in years.

I wonder if there is a site where all of Mike’s messages have been transcribed…

What’s to say Mike & Page are not also attempting to get some of their songs into rotation? Back in the Basement made it, that is one solo song to about twenty of Treys.

^ Back in the basement? Is that Windy City? Or Beauty of a Broken Heart?

I mean Page only has a handful of songs first off.

Knowing Mike he probably doesn’t want to play his older songs. Although Desitny reappeared. Of course this is just speculation to me. I can see your point that Sugar Shack was probably the least played of the new material. That I"ll give you.

Hasn’t Trey written twenty times the songs that Mike and Page have?
Seeing the post from Moma Dave in the general Phish is showing me that he’s trying to write more. I mean hell the dude wrote a song that we’re all going to hear this summer with his i-phone while having lunch with The Dude of Life.

Yeah, Beauty of a Broken Heart. I didn’t think that sounded right. I’m not really a fan of that song anyways.

I love Trey, but I guess my major point is he is a leader, and maybe he shouldn’t be such a leader anymore. A major turning point with me was when Mike was playing with the Duo, and they were creating some awesome new music. And when Trey joined up, I was ecstatic… but it basically turned into a version of Trey Anastasio Band, and that kinda disappointed me.

It’s hard to stop being the leader after so many years. It has a lot to do with his personality, but also the guitar really stands out. Four people, one guitar. Maybe it’s because I’m a guitarist, but I’ve heard many more raging jams that were guitar-driven.

That being said, I’m also much more of a fan of the collective, group playing that occurs when everyone works together. I’m not so sure those types of jams are happening nowadays as much as they used to.
