sorry duders and ettes. 'twis a hoax. an old hoax actually. Mars was very close in the summer of 2003, and it was sweet, but appearing nowhere near as large as the moon. i’m sure this deed was probably perpetuated by boil-plagued ruffians hell-bent on disappointing the fans of such things as Mars. and the moon.

I thought I heard about some skyward event happening soon. But it’s not a “new moon” - it’s a lunar eclipse! Gonna have to stay up late/get up early for this one (in the USA). For real (link):

Like the Star Gazer says, “Keep Looking Up.”
— The eclipse begins in @ 5 hours!!! —
Lunar eclipses are great. We had one on our side of the planet back in March and it was spectacular. The moon goes blood red and actually looks very spherical as opposed to a flat disc. We had some good binoculors too. It only lasts and hour or so, but you can’t miss it.

Check the wiki link for today’s details and where you can see it.
I’ve seen Mars before but it basically appeared as a red dot in the sky…almost like a star but red. I remember in astronomy class in college we saw Jupiter through a telescope…we could even see two of its moons and the horizontal stripes along it. That was sweet.
Stevo
