New Radiohead Album in 10 Days...

Been a long while since I have listened… But always willing to go back!

Nice. It seems like yesterday that they released their last album 4 years ago… ;D
I’ll be listening to it!

This is great. Just the other day I was wondering when they would be releasing their next album. Guess the time was just right, eh?

Radiohead dropped a bomb on the music industry last night, announcing their new album In Rainbows. What’s the big deal? Well, first of all, it’ll be released in a mere 9 days, catching everyone off guard (it was expected sometime next year) and keeping the tracks from leaking to the web. Secondly, you’ll be able to download the album from their official site for any price you want to pay. Yes, it’s pay what you want, including free. Really.

If you want a physical copy, you’ll need to drop a whopping $82 on the “discbox,” which includes both CD and vinyl versions of the album, plus an additional CD/vinyl of more new songs, with the CD also including digital pictures and other such goodies. It also comes with a big photo/art book. That version also comes with the digital download, as the physical copy won’t drop 'til December 3rd (the delay to help prevent leaks, presumably).

What Radiohead is essentially doing is making piracy useless for their album. It won’t leak, so you can’t get it early by pirating. And, assuming they’ll be selling high-quality MP3s as they do with all their other albums, there’s no reason to avoid DRM by pirating. And, since it’s essentially free if that’s what you think it’s worth, you won’t save any money by pirating. By making this the best way to get the album, chances are good that people will actually, you know, pay for it, even though they don’t have to. And since this is OMG Radiohead, you know boatloads of people are going to drop $82 on the collectors-item discbox, which is sure to help them make their ducats.

Oh, did I mention they’re doing this without a record label? Yes, that sound you just heard was the music industry collectively crapping its pants.

this is seriously bad-ass

me too! i read a blurb about ti on jambands.com or something last week and tried not to get too excited because i knew i’d have to wait until next year to hear it.

fucking bad-ass

Radiohead would be great if that singer wouldn’t whine over all the nice music. Oh well…

^^^ Wait…was that a more than two word post out of Thom?..

regadless…what El Bastarde said…minus the nice music part…I liked that song off of that one movie…you know, the one that had Robert Downey Jr and Woody Harrelson…somthing something darkness…

Bump for tommorow. ;D ;D ;D

Not true.
It’s not available yet and for those that don’t want to pay anything for it, there is no need to give an CC info.
a

That is if you choose to actually pay for it.
a

Correct.
But you don’t need to submit any CC info.
Most of us already are registered with WASTE, so it was really quick.
a

Yeah, everyone is waiting for that email…
Soon enough.
a

Killer, btw.

Since their website is crammed full of people, I got it off a Torrent.

I really like it. I’ve been listening to The Bends in my car for the past week or so to get back into the band since for the past 2 or 3 years I’ve barely given them a second of my time. I forgot how much this band meant to me. It’s sure cool to hear a song like ‘Nude’ finally finished, because I remember it from way back in '98 or '99.

This album’s distribution and release are fairly revolutionary, but the music itself is more or less what you’ve come to expect from Radiohead. Those expecting another radical shift in the form of a leap from Pablo Honey to The Bends or from OK Computer to Kid A will be disappointed.

With all of that said, I am loving this so far.

According to many sources, their is a Catch in downloading this thing:

The Catch. As it turns out, paying absolutely nothing for the brand new Radiohead record was, yes, a wee bit too good to be true. You can still get In Rainbows for zero dollars, or eight dollars, or $100.00 if you so choose. It still contains the 10 core In Rainbows tracks. It’s still DRM-free. And, as of this posting, it’s available right this very minute (at least according to the email we just got.)

But as El Perro Del Mar charmingly put into song last year, you’ve got to give to get back. And in the case of Radiohead’s In Rainbows, regardless of whether you chose to give monetarily, you will be giving some-- in audio quality.

According to an email sent to those who pre-ordered the digital version of In Rainbows-- and imminently apparent to those who’ve already rushed to enter their code and download their copy-- “THE ALBUM WILL COME AS A 48.4MB ZIP FILE CONTAINING 10 X 160KBPS DRM FREE MP3s.”

That’s right, 160 kbps. It doesn’t take a techie to tell you that’s a few dozen kbps shy of CD quality.

Hillarious.
Radiohead, the kings neo-Flyodian, un-progressive, boring, tuneless hipster music. They’ve proven time and time again that they can piss directly into open mouths of hipsters, and they frolic and gargle in the yellow stream like God himself was giving them a nectar-bath. Loathsome pseudo-intellectual college boys used to have ponytails; now they have Radiohead. God help them…

LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!

SHE’S A HUMAN!!!

Disco Biscuits, brah!
a

oh jeez.

come on, guys.

I guess I don’t see how giving away 160kb/s quality music is pissing into open mouths, but whatever.
