NFL 2010-11 Season

I’m still sick to my stomach after the Super Bowl…Steelers had the momentum shift in the 3rd Quarter and then Big Ben OVERTHROWS Wallace in the End Zone with the Steelers down by 4…Rest is history…Only thing that makes it tolerable is Charles Woodson getting a Ring…Now he has a Heisman, National Championship and a Super Bowl.

Hope everyone enjoyed the NFL this year because as of March 4th we won’t be seeing Football for at least a year maybe 2…The Lockout WILL HAPPEN and it will be ugly…

Owners will not budge from that STUPID 18 Game Season (I will stop watching NFL if it goes to 18 games) and if they get it from the Players, it will RUIN Football forever…The Packers had 15 Players on Injured Reserve going into the Super Bowl, adding more games will decimate every team…Players have already said they can barley play 16 games + Playoffs…

I’m glad the Seasons is over, I have a bitter taste in my mouth with the Steelers loss and the impending Lockout, I need a break from the NFL for a bit…

Time to concentrate on Barclay’s Premier League!!!

Eh…I wouldn’t say Michiganders in general dislike them. In fact there’s a lot of Packer fans in Michigan and the entire Upper Peninsula is basically Packer country since they’re practically a different state anyway. It’s just me since I’ve got a bandwagon-jumping Packer-fan brother who gets annoying (aka Golgi Packeratus). Plus I don’t like Brett Favre so I’ve had years of cheering against the Packers because of him though Aaron Rodgers is a lot more bareable.

Anyway, good game but a bit sloppy by both teams. Steelers looked like crap in the 1st half and then the Pack looked like crap for most of the 2nd half until their late TD. At least it was competitive with some pretty solid defense throughout. I’d say Clay Matthews showed why he should have been Defensive player of the year but oh well. In the end I didn’t mind whoever won.

Anyway…halftime show? Bleh. I’m not a fan of the Peas at all especially since they sound much worse live than they do in studio…it’s just four folks yelling into microphones live…plus you could tell they turned down the music for the TVs which was a bad idea. Why do TV folks NEVER get how to properly broadcast the music? To be fair, I’m glad they did away with the “paid fans who jump around the stage while pretending to be real fans” and just went with the choreography…at least that was pretty to look at. Plus, am I the only one who cracks up about the long-haired white dude on the Peas who does basically nothing during every performance? Hilarious every time. And why the heck was Usher there? I couldn’t even tell he was singing and he was just doing dance moves…they could have had Kevin Federline do that. And nice of Slash to show up and pretend to play guitar…though Fergie doesn’t come close to Axl which is bad cuz she’s a chick. Oh well…this is what we get when everyone bitches about the “old guys” every year. Aside from Kid Rock I don’t know any “mainstream” artist who can do a live show anymore.

Commercials…let’s see…

superbowl-ads.com/article_archive/ - Nice site here where you can rattle through them pretty quickly.

-I’d say for the 2nd year in a row, Doritos managed to have some of the stupidest ads in the Super Bowl. Congrats, boys, the streak is still alive.
-Thank you, Miller Light, for not putting out more of those HORRIBLE “man up” ads with the female bartenders ripping on dorky dudes.
-Gotta say that most Detroit people LOVED the Chrysler ad with Eminem. That’s how you do it folks. Worked really well with the “Lose Yourself” music.
-The VW commercial with the mini-Darth Vader was sweet.
-I just groan at basically every tired coca-cola ad. What a waste of time.
-I like the Audi “high class prison” ad…funny stuff there. Also liked the old people misinterpreting the Chevy Cruze ad…hilarious…I’ll bet this stuff totally goes on in real life with these technology ads.
-And can E-Trade PLEASE get a new idea outside of those stupid talking babies? They haven’t been funny in years. Make it stop. Seriously, talking babies and animals need to stop. They were getting old right around Look Who’s Talking Two.
-And nice to see that there are about 500 new movies coming out in the next few months. Can’t wait to see them all. And why not call that one movie “Cowboys and Aliens”…that’s about as inspired a title as Snakes on a Plane.
-Nice “Kid in a Candy Store” commercial but CarMax…that cracked me up.
-And Motorola’s commercial sucked…you know the one with everyone in the white suits except for the one super-cool guy who is totally different cuz he has some stupid Ipad. Oooo!! Let’s look at the cool guy who’s totally different and cool cuz he’s got a frickin iPad and doesn’t do any work. Wooo!
-And nice to see that GoDaddy is still working their best at making the worst commercials ever. Great job folks…your Title is safe for another year!

Thank you, Green Bay.

Poop on you Green Bay…

Heinz Ward looks like the Golden Child all grown up.

Man which team is in better shape as it sits today? Detroit or Minnesota…

I am nervous! :shifty:

^ Detroit was the last team to beat Green Bay!

Eh, we need our Lions QB to not break himself into pieces for the third year in a row to be considered.

Yeah that is correct and funny too!

^At a score of 7-3. Go figure.

it makes me want to puke that the pack got another title they can brag about for 15 years, but oh well…it’s just a stupid game

::cries because the viqueens will never win it all::

So… Where do you all stand on the CBA etc…

I mean I love football, but man this sucks!

i stand with the players demands and yes, it does suck. i am officially nervous about the status of the pending NFL season. the players deserve more money and greater considerations towards their demands since it is them, not the owners, who will have to play the 18 game season. i really hate it when people bitch about the millions that NFL players make. most of the players on any given team’s roster make 6 figures.

I’m not sure who I’m siding with on this. I mean, if I had to choose, I am siding with the fans!
We’re talking about BILLIONS of dollars that need to be divided up. BILLIONS!!! I think that they can find a way to make it work.
As for the money the players make, I understand that there are only a few players on each team who make the million dollar contracts, but those are the best of the best. You won’t find me feeling any pity for a guy who makes six figures to play a game! And were not talking about $100,000. I believe the league minimum for a rookie in the NFL is somewhere around $285,000. And that’s just for a rookie. So I would safely say that the average player makes around $500,000. To play a game! Yes, I get that it’s a violent game, and you are an elite player, you are in the NFL, the best of the best, but c’mon! A 1/2 million dollars!
What I think the players DO need is a better retirement package. They need to be taken care of after the game is over. I’ve seen too many times where guys are left crippled and broken due to years in the league, only to have the NFL turn their back on them. That has to change!
The real pisser of all this, and what pisses me off about the owners is that they will get paid this year, even if there is no football! That’s BULLSHIT! Where is their incentive to get things done when they are going to get millions in revenue even if there is no football?
There are other issues, but I’m at work and can’t get to into it.

Bottom line, this whole thing sucks for us, the common fan who works our ass off all week, and look forward to a 3 hour escape on Sundays (or Mondays, Thursdays, or Saturdays!) to watch professional athletes beat the crap out of each other!
Jut remember owners and players, if there is another lock out, it could take years to undo the damage that could potentially be done. It took baseball almost 10 years for the fans to forgive them for the work stoppage.

^Good point about the MLB lockout, it did take years!!!

FYI:
Average NFL Salary
The median salary in the NFL in 2009 was roughly $770,000. In 2008 it was about $720,000. The Steelers have the highest median salary at $1.1 million, the Packers the lowest at $440,000. The Redskins have the highest payroll at $123 million. The Giants have the lowest at $76 million.
The average (arithmetic mean) NFL salary in 2006 was $1.4 million.
Source: asp.usatoday.com/sports/football … ?year=2007
Given that the average length of a Gridiron player’s career in NFL is 3 years, average Green Bay salary of $440,000 means that after tax they earn less than $1 million total career earnings hampered by the fact there is nowhere else to play as Leagues have folded.
League minimums for years 1994, 1995, 1996.
$108,000, $149,000, $196,000. No guaranteed contracts.

:astonished:

So a judge just ruled that the owners will NOT be able to receive the revenue share from the TV deal if there is no football!
Huge blow to the owners! That millions that they are going to lose if there is no football. :open_mouth:

Correction: That’s $4 BILLION dollars that they will not get, not million.

pretty awesome. the owners leverage is out the window. something will actually get done now.

Great strides were made in the talks today!!!

Instead of being locked-out at Midnight, they will conveniently wait 24 hours…Great job!!!
