so fucking ready for this weekend. heading to a bar on sunday to catch the game (not on locally).
go vikes.
Well, I’m sure all the Vikings fans are thrilled at ole Chilly last night. He’s got 4th and 11 with five minutes in the game on the opposing 45!!? And he PUNTS? What a pussy move and OF COURSE the Football Gods punished such a cowardly act by never letting them get the ball back…I called it right when they punted. I don’t care if it’s 4th and 11. You have Brett Favre who has made a living on this kind of stuff and you didn’t even let him try. Total wuss move.
Strangely, the game was interesting despite the lack of scoring and the two halves were almost identical. I thought the Vikes protected Favre really well and he just looked off on his throws. Collingsworth kept blaming the receivers but it’s hard to catch balls that are five feet over your head. And why did I barely see Peterson at all in the 2nd half?..by far their best drive was the long drive in the 2nd quarter when the featured a ton of AP looks.
Lions vs Bears this weekend. Cutler looked bad in the offseason but…it’s the Lions.
I thought that game was a borefest. and I thought the vikes should have used camarillo in the first half instead of in the 4th quarter. favre obviously loves the guy
I enjoyed watching the game last night. I love watching defensive battles and that’s what it seemed to be. Maybe I also enjoyed watching it so much because I had a really bad day and it was a great way to end it…got to sit there with my mind off and watch some football. Thank god for the NFL.
So F’n Stoked!!! Just quit talking about labor negotiations and let us enjoy this season.

Geez dudes what a fucking mess that Cowboys team was tonight. Don’t get me wrong, I hate the Cowboys and was glad to see them shoot themselves in the foot over and over. But still…lots of dumb ass penalties.
Man, the season has been awesome so far. Vikes lose, Lions and Bears showed how terrible they are, AND the Pack won. The only thing that could make this start any better would be a Jets loss!
indeed, sir.
well, I didn’t get to see any of the action today on account of stupid old work.
I heard the Dolphins were a little sloppy but Looking at it from here I’d say a win in Buffalo is never a bad thing, especially a season opener. That’s about the Dol-fan equivalent of Phish opening with Fee but Trey forgets the lyrics. A Fee opener is a Fee opener.
The play clock graphic on FOX is freaking stupid.
![]()
Thank you! My son and I couldn’t figure out what the hell that thing was for a long time. Finally, he was the one who figured out it was the play clock. I think Fox would learn a thing or two from the whole “less is more” idea. Enough with the graphics and shit, and just let me watch the game.
Now, as for the action:
It’s going to be a loooonnnnnnggggg season in Chicago. I can’t believe we escaped with a win over the lions. (even though I still maintain we lost. That was a catch!) But, let that be a lesson to all you receivers who think you’re better than everyone else, quit the celebration and finish the play. Whatever, if we almost lost to the Lions, there is little hope for the season. Although, if I had to hang my hat on one thing, it would be that, statistically, we crushed them, but turnovers are what made this a close game. If we can fix the turnover problem, maybe it won’t be so bad this year.
From what I saw, it looked like a pretty sloppy week all around the league. There really wasn’t one team that looked like they had their shit together.
How about them Texans!!! Glad to see they finally were able to get over the hump, and beat the Colts. Could be a good year for them.
How could the Cowboys have lost that game?! I’ve seen some stupid penalties, but the one at the end of the game may take the cake. It’s not like it was even questionable, the almost ripped the guys head off! just wow! And what the hell is wrong with taking a knee at the half, and going in down 3 points? Instead you run that readicculus play, and it cost you another 7 points! Nice job, Wade!
One final thought…
What the hell is wrong with kicking field goals!!! Between the Bears not kicking a field goal and taking the lead in their game, then getting stuffed at the one yard line, and then Notre Dame not kicking a field goal at the half, I just don’t know what the aversion is to kicking field goals!!!
I guess it didn’t hurt the Bears in the long wrong, but Brian Kelly not kicking the field goal at the half cost the team a victory. But that’s for another thread…
Good time watching football and not ahving to worry about my Vikes… Now onto the real season!
BEARS…oh my… ![]()
The Lovie Smith one was indefensible. It’s like six minutes in the game and the Lions had done NOTHING on offense for the entire second half with Shaun Hill and yet were somehow clinging to that 14-13 lead. Don’t you at LEAST want to take the lead in case the stalemate continues until the end of the game? That was insane.
And yeah…don’t get me started on that call on Calvin’s catch. All I can say is THAT’S THE LIONS. Of COURSE the NFL will pick that particular moment to enforce some horrible interepretation of some new catching rule which doesn’t make. If that’s not a catch than what is? Calvin catches the ball, had enough control to actually switch the ball to one hand so he could use his other hand to break his fall, lands on his ass, then his knee and then because he used the ball to push himself up, it’s not a catch. Really, NFL? All I can say is that if that was the Pats or the Colts or the Cowboys or the Saints or Vikings, then there’s no WAY they reverse that TD. But it’s the Lions and they had no problem pissing all over us and that win. We NEEDED that fucking win. Stafford’s probably out another three or four weeks (or worse) and we get Philly, @Minnesota and @Green Bay as the next three games. Jesus Christ, NFL, throw us a fucking bone here. But we’ve seen it before. They screwed us out of a game-winning catch against Tampa a few years back when Marcus Pollard was ruled out of bounds when he was in and then on Sunday Night Football against Green Bay they had an ridiculous series of events where Samkon Gado was tackled in the endzone for a safety AND Green Bay was holding in the endzone on the same play (also a safety) and they called neither. This is what happens to the Lions. Oh, by the way, the great hope of our franchise managed to play for one half before he injured the same shoulder that took him out last year.We had one half of hope before it all came crashing down and in this case we can’t even say it was the team’s fault. That’s the fucking Lions.
Even worse, I heard an interview with some NFL official and he was asked if Calvin had just not gotten up after the play and just sat there on his behind after the catch, would it have been a catch. In taking the a pure company line, the NFL official said no. So, there it is, straight from the horse’s mouth. No matter WHAT Calvin did on that catch, they weren’t going to count it. Apparently Calvin had to cradle the ball and carry it with him onto the bus for the ride home in order for the TD to count. Meanwhile, a running back and poke one half-inch of the end of the ball over the edge of the goalline and even get it punched out of his hand a second later, and that counts as a TD, but what Calvin did doesn’t.
(Though, when you think about it, the bad karma stretched to even FORMER Lions. Not only did Calvin get his TD taken away, but Mike Williams for Seattle (former terrible Lion) had a TD taken away by review and then Roy Williams had his TD taken away with the holding call last night. God hates even former Lions).
By the way, the 2nd half of the Lions game was absolutely surreal. I had already assumed we were done when Stafford went out and then yardage was like 500 for the Bears to like a 100 for the Lions and we were still in the lead for the whole game. And given how dreadful Shaun Hill and the offense was for the whole 2nd half, that game-winning drive at the end was completely unexpected. I’ve never seen a half like that.
Maybe the Bears showed this but what’s wrong with the Lions? Our starting QB got knocked out right before halftime and the backup QB struggled. Then the Lions defense had two drives starting in their own territory and forced punts both time, got four turnovers and had a miraculous 4-play goalline stand from the 1-yard line with the backup to a backup making the key stop on 4th down. Then they lead the game-winning drive for the Touchdown and won the game. And this means they’re terrible. Given how the Pack nearly choked that game away to Michael frickin Vick (and it would have been tied had Vick just rushed in for that TD), I don’t think you should be talking.
^Oh come on man, you don’t gotta take it so personally. ![]()
Yes the Lions have shown A LOT of improvement over their past few seasons and yes, you were cheated out of that win. But lets be real here, neither the Bears or Lions showed that they are a contender in the division. Case in point: the entire second half of the game, save for Detroit’s 4th down stand and final drive. Plus, the Lions improvement is completely relative. When you hit absolute rock bottom, there is only one direction you can go.
Questions (not meant to be snarky in any manner): How far do you think Hill will actually be able to take the team? Can that D stand up to an actual offense? How will the team rebound after that tough loss?
And I really have no rebuttal towards the Packers game. We came home with the win in a hostile, hostile stadium against an energized team led by one of the former(possibly current) greats of the league in Vick. It is all we needed.
There is still plenty of football to be played.
i like when the Jets lose in embarrassing fashion.
It was more than embarrassing.
The Mets and the Jets are perfect examples that it’s not just money that builds powerhouse teams year after year. Owners can continue to bank huge buckets of money and fail to invest in the quality of management and players that produce winning teams. The Jets and the Mets generate as much or almost as much dinero as the Yankees and the Giants, yet the long term results are vastly different.

Manning vs. Manning…Time for the Colts to get back on track!! Go Horse!!
go peyton!
I’m pulling for ya brah
2-0!
