NHL

^ I hope that’s true.

There should be lots of games on OLN. NBC is also showing playoff games. Neither channel has any kind of schedule listed on their website. Maybe it’s too early, but it’s not. (The playoffs start in days. Where the hell is the schedule?) At least they are broadcasting games. I would guess that NBC is only showing games on the weekend until the Finals. I hope that OLN shows games on days other than Monday and Tuesday. I want to see lots of playoff hockey. I say BOOOOOO Red Wings. Who wouldn’t like to see Yzerman win the cup and then retire? That would be cool, but I just can’t get behind the Wings.

i was thinkin that about oln. at least when espn had it you knew games were gonna be on but who knows now. go devils. comin on hot, especially after last night awesome game. here we come.

Redwings all the way. Have you ever played that one NHL game for SNES where the goalie for detroit was named BRICKWALL? Good stuff…

Anyone ever see a Stanley Cup bracket?

http://www.ezsportsbetting.com/hockey/stanley_cup_braquet.asp

pretty shitty bracket but bracket none the less.

That one is all off. The Wings play the Oilers in the first round, not the Stars.

i like the fyers and all, but can’t stand hitchcock. funny story. our family are pretty big hockey fans and my uncle knows quite a few blackhawks current and past on a personal level. he’s friends with jeremy roenick and apparently roenick HATES hitchcock. before games and practices there is a table full of bagels and other snack items for players and coaches to grab. well it seams that nobody on flyers used to eat the bagel cause they knew j.r. would wipe his ass wtih them cause only hitchcock would eat them unknowingly.

Wow, I never realized how much I missed Playoff Hockey until I sat down and watched last night’s slew of games. First playoff game of the year ends up being a four and a half hour double-overtime slugfest with my Wings and the Oilers where Kirk Maltby who scored virtually no goals all year scores 2 including the game-winner in overtime. Then I stayed up for the Anaheim/Calgary game on the Canadian channel and THAT goes into overtime with the winning goal by former Red Wing, Darren McCarty. Just awesome! Say what ya want about hockey, but MAN, are the playoffs good. I never realized that I missed them that much either… With hockey and the NBA playoffs both going on, it’ll be a busy few months.

The first round is over. Lots of surprises…for me anyway. The Campbell…I mean, the West was turned upside down. I enjoyed all the games very much. Action-packed. Next up:

East:
Ottawa - Buffalo
Carolina - New Jersey

West:
Edmonton - San Jose
Anaheim - Colorado

I originally picked Dallas, so we all know that I have no clue. I have no idea what team to pick now. I just hope for more badass hockey. I’m sure Ottawa hopes for the return of Hasek. When he is healed will he be ready? Should they replace the goalie that has been stopping pucks all this time?

This reminds me, I must buy a new control pad for my PS2 as the old one isn’t compatible with NHL 06!

Oh…someone bumped the wrong thread. We already have an NHL Playoff thread. Oh well…whatever. Just a wacky playoffs so far. We have 5,6,7,8 from the West and 1,2,3,4 from the East. WEEEIIRD. Anyway, My picks:

Da East:
Ottawa Senators (1) vs Buffalo Sabres (4)

Well, I’ll say right now with the West teams just completely decimated I don’t see anything keeping Ottawa or the Devils from the Cup so I have to pick them. I think the Sabres run has been GREAT (especially with Michigan State goalie, Ryan Miller, who I went drinking with many times when I was in college). I’ll be cheering for my man, Ryan, but I don’t see them winning.
Winner: Senators in 6

Carolina Hurricanes (2) vs New Jersey Devils (3)

Wow, what a difference a goalie change make. Gerber was horrendous and his play really was killing the Canes against the lowly Habs who prolly shouldn’t even have been in the playoffs. Anyway, the Devils are on fire right now. They’re getting goals and MAJOR defense. I don’t see anyone beating them right now.
Winner: Devils in 6

Da West:
San Jose Sharks (5) vs Edmonton Oilers (8)

Yeah, who predicted THIS matchup? Hilarious. Anyway, Edmonton played out of their mind in the last series to beat the Wings. I’m not kidding…I saw a number of their games on the Canadian channel during the season and they looked NOTHING like the team that whomped my Wings in 6. However, I think you can only play above your abilities for so long. Roloson was good but wasn’t great. The Sharks play some sweet Defense no matter who is in goal and Thornton’s got them scoring.
Winner: Sharks in 6

Anaheim Ducks (6) vs Colorado Avalanche (7)

The Avalanche shocked the hell out of me, not by beating the Ducks but by DESTROYING the Ducks. Yes, there were some OT games but Dallas just seemed clueless the entire series. The Ducks have been ON FIRE since a month or two before the playoffs even to wear I picked them to beat Calgary. They’ll keep riding that wave.
Winner: Ducks in 7

Oops. I picked all the higher seeds. Oh well.

I won the Stanley Cup in 2001. I forgot to tell you.

I went to Lake Superior State in 1995, 1996. The goalie was John Grahme…who now plays for Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay was just beaten by Ottawa. It’s weird to see some guy playing pro hockey that I used to see getting cereal in the cafeteria.

what kind of cereal did he get?

I’m the same way with a bunch of the hockey and basketball players at Michigan State. I lived in the same dorm that they would so I saw and hung out with plenty of them. The hockey players were on the same floor as my brother so I would go out with them when I hung out with my brother. I went out to kegger parties and sorts of shit with current NHL players like Ryan Miller of the Sabres, John Michael Liles from the Avs and Shawn Horcoff from the Oilers. They’d always have BIG sing-along with Robby Williams’ “Angels” song…very strange but true. It’s VERY cool seeing these guys make it in the pros.

From the basketball team, Zach Randolph of the Trailblazers lived directly across the hall from me. He was a VERY cool dude but I could tell he might be in a bit of…uh…legal trouble in the pros…he was just that kind of guy. We’d even prank him by getting girls to leave messages on his voicemail telling him that they were pregnant…he’d freak out so badly. Another one was this international guy named Erazem Lorbek who only played on the team for one year…he was from Slovenia…it was REALLY funny seeing him adopt American slang and use it…he was like seven feet tall and walk into a room and say “What’s up, fuckers!” except his accent made it sound like “fockers.” Plus he’s play NCAA basketball on the Playstation and he’s be able to PLAY AS HIMSELF…how’d you like to play a video game as yourself? He’d always get himself the ball for dunks and would talk major shit every time…all of this in his thick European accent…the dude was awesome. I also roomed with a couple of the student-coaches from the team so I’d go to parties and see tons of basketball players, many from the 2000 National Championship team. Morris Peterson, Charlie Bell, Mateen Cleaves, Jason Richardson…they’d all be there.

I remember seeing some football guys like TJ Duckett and Charles Rogers at parties…I am definitely not surprised that Charles Rogers had multiple drug offenses in the pros…every time I saw him he seemed to be on SOMETHING other than alcohol.

It’s definitely cool.

I know that I’ve talked about this with ghost in the chat once a few moons ago, but I’m from the same town as Craig Conroy of the LA Kings who almost won a cup with the Flames in 2004. I worked out with him and skated with him on a daily basis (He hit me with a puck in the face and I now have a nice scar as proof) when I was in high school and he was just making it into the pros, so not only is it cool as hell to watch him on TV and to have him be in the running for a cup, it’s even better to say that I played hockey with him.

In fact, last year during the lockout, he played on an adult league team with us for a tournament in upstate NY. It was awesome. He spent a lot of time trying to make plays and whatnot, but he didn’t score a goal the whole tournament, and it’s not like he wasn’t trying either. In one game, he kept getting stoned by this one goalie, who was, yes, a girl. She should’ve been on the Olympic team, but for apparant political reasons didn’t make it. (maybe she had a penis we didn’t know about). Either way, pretty cool.

It’s pretty cool to have seen guys in their younger days before pro sports. It’s even cooler to play hockey with Craig Conroy in an adult league during the lockout. Lucky Apocalypsenow.
The second round is coming right along. That first Ottawa-Buffalo game was wild. Tonight’s game should be more of the same. Carolina put some serious hurt on New Jersey. Happy Birthday, Martin! Ha! The Edmonton-San Jose series looks evenly matched. And GO DUCKS! Keep the rubber flying against Colorado.

Edmonton and San Jose are even. Tied 2-2 in the series. Right now, Edmonton is up 5-3 in the 3rd period of game 5. I vote Sharks. The Ducks are waiting for the winner of that series. They are getting plenty of needed rest after they swept those filthy Avs. A very cool Buffalo team smoked Ottawa. Carolina rolled over New Jersey. That should be a killer conference finals. It all sounds good to me. I’ve been enjoying the playoffs very much.

So no one cares about hockey anymore because the Red Wings were sent home in the first round? Poor red team. Buffalo-Carolina and Edmonton-Anaheim conference finals. I don’t know who to pick.
