However one specific thing that I’m excited about is Trey’s envelope filter/auto-wah. Jerry used an envelope filter by Mutron for songs like Fire on the Mountain and Estimated Prophet.

Cliff-notes: It’s the wet, funky sound Jerry is famous for.

I haven’t heard Trey use it before these shows, and I’m hoping he takes it on Phish tour. Did he buy one? Or did someone have Jerry’s vintage Mutron and let him borrow it? I need answers, and I need jams!

It was so nice hearing Trey use this effect during the GD50 shows. I doubt he used the Mu-Tron, since they haven’t been made in decades, and better “auto-wah” effects have been made. But it’s not unlikely I’ve jammed along with funky Phish tunes for years using my Electro-Harmonix “Q-Tron” (said to be the closest sound to a vintage Mu-Tron) and really hope he uses it more.

Isn’t it magical when one little addition to a rig can blossom into new interpretations of Phish jammage?
