NYE 2003 Stash -- let's have some opinions

I can’t believe how little attention the set II opening stash from NYE 2003 has received (and to be honest, that show in general… but that’s a whole other thread). I find the spacy middle section to be absolutely gorgeous and far more purposeful than your general ambience. furthermore, the smooth movement back into more grounded playing is simply exquisite, as is the entrance back into the stash jam. to complete it all, it closes in a very powerful stash fashion (but features a HUGE release on a LOW note as opposed to the too typical high note releases).

this stash is never mentioned when people talk about the best post-hiatus jam, but i think it is better than all the usual candidates (although the nassau tweezer gives it a run for it’s money depending on my mood).

there are certain phish jams that sound as if they were truly composed, note for note with complete purpose in mind. this stash is one of them. the whole jam seems to know where it’s going and by the end it all seems to have come so full-circle and be a true hole (unlike a lot of great phish jams that kind of move from place to place until finally seguing into something else or fizzling out or just ending… like that nassau tweezer. that thing touches on so many musical landscapes it is amazing. but each one doesn’t necessarily sound like it inevitably came out of what came before it like the stash jam does).

anyway, i just need to hear some opinions on this version because it never seems to get talked about.

aint that one of the dvd’s goin round?

It is amazing. Some validation fer ya! But not the best post hiatus jam. Mr Completely from Utah in 03 is the shiz!

7.15.03…that show is the bomb…set II…

w0w.!.!

and it aint just mr. completely…all the other shiz…BBFCFM…buried alive…ha ha ha…  ;D :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

stellar to say the least…

but…not to hijack da thread…the stash miami o3 is HOTT!

the dvd says it all…

Wish I could hear it to judge, but I would still say ‘Tweezer’ from Nassau FTW.

… I guess I need to find this “Stash”…

2.26.03 worcester maze = best post hiatus jam.

i’d stick with the worcester show and say moma dance instead of maze. this version is lights out. however, if this thread is talking about overlooked post hiatus jams how about twist from SPAC. the funk groove they get going is one of a kind.

i would definitely throw that twist in as one of the most overlooked post-hiatus jams. i saw both of those two spac shows and that twist was definitely the highlight of the whole weekend for me. that twist and 6/20 in general gets overshadowed (unfairly) by the extensive jamming after a song i heard the ocean sing and especially piper from the previous night. i think that piper is a bit overrated, but the glowstick war at the show sure was hot.

just a sad decision to revive my own post. hoping for a few more comments…

I heard a few minutes of this ‘Stash’ just now before my girlfriend called. I know you probably expect me to say that I told her “not now, woman, Phish is on!” but nope. I missed the rest of it. What I heard was pretty out there, in a good way.
Now to revive interest in this thread: what’s with that 7/25/03 Harry Hood? It’s making me crazy on LPR right now. Where did he go when the lights went out? He went to a dark, spacey place that Harry.

so now a few of you have the DVD…

watching and hearing is far better than just hearing…

i think its sick, braaahz…if you dont have the dvd yet work out a BnP or a trade, ya’ll

i’ve got a dvd of sets 2 and 3 from nye 2003. neck - does the dvd you have have a nearly top-down angle on trey for most of stash?

hmmm…i’d would have to re-view it…

well…is it a team hood dvd?

yeah, i would think so (too lazy to check…).

Miami 03 Stash was monstrous.

I approve of this thread.
