went to my buddy’s place where three different people cornered me to tell me their relationships were on the rocks (two of the three are in one of the said relationships). i don’t really understand why people who don’t even know me that well want to tell me this stuff. i can’t really help but feel bad for these folks cause i know how it feels. blah.
too much drama, man. i shoulda just stayed in.
Went to a restaurant party where the food and drink were good, except that I have a slight hangover this morning. We were told by our friends that there would be a DJ, and even though they can be hot and cold, no one could have been colder than the five piece band that was actually playing.
They played all this 50/60/70s crap and not very well, slower and irregular tempos. And although we were on the dance floor most of the night, a couple of times I threw up my hands at how bad the particular song was, and we sat down. Too bad, because I was really into dancing with my honey into the new year, and better music would have made it a really great night.
As it was, partying with Marie was great fun. We get really close while dancing for some reason. Maybe it has something to do with our courtship days, maybe it’s because we’re not as sexually active as we used to be and dancing takes the place of some of that lost intimacy. But last night ended just right because when we got home, we found some of it again, and let’s just say that Sloth wasn’t the only one to break in the new year with a bang.
And then we watched some of a Honeymooners marathon and laughed ourselves to sleep.
Cooked steak on the grill with the wife. Opened up a bottle of Patron for myself while she opened up champagne after dinner.
Hooked up the computer to the S-Video on my widescreen and raged Widespread Panic from Denver on pay-per-view. A few folks dropped by and watched. They played side one one of Space Wrangler as a surprise for their first set. Second set also fucking smoked! Excellent night…
Went to Martin’s Tavern, which is apparently where JFK proposed to Jackie. Not the greatest party ever, kind of old and stuffy. Then got home and listened to NYE '93 and rocked out to guitar hero…pretty solid night.
Candy flipped at Super Tribe Sector 9 all four nights. They’re hotter than I’ve ever seen them and I’ve seen over 20 shows, including the NYE run the last five years. HOT HOT HOT!
went up to a downtown block party in West Palm Beach with my friends, dawned fluorescent warpaint on my face and arms, and got drunk…really drunk.
drank heavily and partied like a rockstar at a buddies place until 6, then got a cab ride home and my upstairs neighbors were still up, so we drank Jag for 30 or so minutes
Yeah, STS9 is sounding better and better with each tour. Looking forward to downloading the NYE show. Last years at the Tabernacle was fucking amazing. Excellent band.
I like the fact that the “old guard” don’t like them or get them. They are just taking elements of improv, jazz, and “jamband” history and mixing it up with electronica. Pushing forward and breaking the stale boundaries…which is what good improvisational music SHOULD do.
Drove to Charlotte to see The Avett Brothers.
It’s weird seeing a new year’s show by yourself when the countdown hits. Everybody’s all hugging and kissing and you’re just standing there clapping like a dumbass.
The show was bad friggin’ ass though. I loved every minute of it.
They’re mostly an acoustic band, but they do have one song on the Emotionalism album called Pretty Girl From Chile. It’s this really cool flamenco sounding song about a girl named Gabriella. At the end of the version on the album, the song ends with a voice mail left by Gabriella followed by a rock out complete with electric guitar and drums. When they do it live, they play the acoustic part, then the lights go out and the voicemail plays giving them time to get in position for the plug in so when the message stops they throw the lights on and rock it out hard. Apparently they were having some technical difficulties getting the electric guitar going so they went on and played the rest of the show without finishing it until the encore where they rocked it out so hard and brought the house down.
Oh such a fun show! Got all my faves too w00t! Pretty surprised they played 11:30-1:15 or so lastnight. That’s a long show for them since they only do one set.
It was grand getting home at 4am, but I didn’t want to spring for a hotel. Been lounging around watching HGTV all day since my daughter is with her grandparents until tomorrow.
I didn’t eat any black-eyed peas. Maybe I should have. I need all the help I can get.

I went to a friend’s house and played wii all night and drank a 12 pack of yeungling with my honey. Then at about 11 we left and stopped by the store and picked up the Planet Earth Blu-Ray collection. 4 discs with 12 hours of the most amazing filming ever shot of all of our earth’s natural wonders…all in full HD!! We got home at about 10 til 12, watched the ball drop, then watched planet earth until we passed out. Great NYE. I didn’t get laid until the next morning at about 8…does that count?

Planet Earth vids are sweet…I’ve only seen one whole one, and it was actually a “blue planet” one, but I think they’re made by the same people. I need to see them all…
