Official Games of the XXIX Olympiad Thread

Yeah, but it’s never the other way around…We always win!!! Hahahahahaha

Fair enough.

In terms of 1st place finishes, China excelled above all other countries around the globe.

In terms of 2nd and 3rd place finishes, they failed miserably.

Agreed?

America rules.

Yep, China is the winner.

Glenn just pulled an Ollie!

And really… relax.

It is OK that America rules.

And that last part is quite nice… what a way to go. High class over here people.

Oh for Pete’s peppers!

On a different note, did anybody see Jimmy Page at the closing ceremony?

Yeah, that was pretty good. I liked how the previews all showed Page from the 70s and whatnot… then comes the silver haired guitar slinger.

I really like the Whole Lotta Love with that pop singer… good stuff.

Oh snap!

;D

Hahahahhaah…That’s great Neil…

And I didn’t mean to turn things so nasty. No hard feelings Icc?

I just have extreme pride in my country and I definitely don’t appreciate my country being called a retarded step-child. That’s a bit far. If that were the case why does the world pay such close attention to our every move. Don’t people try to ignore retarded step children? Don’t hate.

It’s pretty obvious why countries pay attention to US affairs, the fact that they do isn’t necessary because it’s the best country in the world or the worst, just that it has the most influence at the moment.

Anyway, I think GB did awesome this year but when it comes to the Olympics I think the most impressive thing is the athletes themselves and on a wider scale, humans as a whole. I couldn’t care less where they are from really. There is something different about the Olympics compared to competitions based on a single sport like the World Cup in my opinion.

That was my point Assquatch on the first note.

Also I would like to echo your sentiments regarding the athletes and humans as a whole. It was a great event.

I’ve posted a few things that have been hating on China but it’s not hating on the Chinese people nor is it ignorant American flag waving. I have no problem criticizing the US for the examples of human rights abuses that Icc listed, in fact I do and could add 5-6 things to that list, but that misses the point. The point is that RIGHT NOW the Olympics, and hence the eyes of the world, were on China and that makes China fair game for criticism of its human rights abuses.

1st - The Olympics ARE political. Read the Olympic charter, specifically the portions that describe the principles of olympism and the goals of the olympic movement. The Olympics are INTENDED to make a global political statement that transcends athletics (and nationalism).

2nd - Many nations (including the US) have violated human rights but China is regularly listed as one of the worst human rights violators in the world (many years they are #1 - no gold medal pun intended) Source on that: UN; Human Rights Watch; Amnesty International. Many people therefore hold the legitimate position that China should not have been awarded the Olympic games by the IOC b/c China consistently violates the very principles listed in the Olympic Charter.

3rd - China has seriously abused human rights within China for the express purpose of silencing dissent and criticism prior to and during these Olympic games.

They put on this fake show intended to say that China is open to the world but it’s a lie. For example they touted the fact that they would allow the athletes in the Olympic village to blog without being censored, but that “freedom” did not extend to the Chinese athletes and China blocked access to any websites that pointed out there human rights abuses including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.

When it comes to abuse of human rights, silence is consent. I am not “America” criticizing “China” , I’m just a human being trying not to be silent and trying to speak out in support of the principles defined in the Olympic Charter. I think that during the actual Olympics seems like the most appropriate time to do that.

;D cool breeze  <<< good vibes >>>

*** recycles the good vibes ***

Well I apologize that this got so out of hand. This was not my intent and for that I feel bad. I in no way meant for Icc to delete his account. Did this really happen? I was just providing my opinion and meant no disrespect. I don’t think I was horrible in what I was saying, but perhaps I was taken the wrong way.

I love Glenn like a brother… but his reactions to nothing have really confused me.

He seemed to be on a tirade to explain to us his poor feelings about America.

Oh well…

This challenged step-child rules!

Glenn, I’m glad you didn’t leave for good.

As Bob Weird would say, “I’ve gotten used to havin’ you around…”
