Oh my god!
that game is awsome. ;D
high score of 80 so far.
Amongst all the different political protests in SF there was also a group protesting the games saying they should be played naked like the old days.
I don’t even know what to say about that.
Damn hippies?
This was buried on page 12!
Anyway, we’re about 2 1/2 days away…anyone else watching the opening ceremonies? I will be. I eat that shit up.
I’ll be.
I love the opening ceremonies.
Always very artistic and meaningful for the host country.
Should be interesting this year.
Other then that I like Track and Field, Football (soccer), Women Gymnastics, and Swimming.
I gotta see if that Phelps (sp?) kid will break any records in all those swimming events.
That kid is like a human dolphin hybrid.
I think I’ll watch basketball as well, just to see if the USA will choke again.
I’m also hoping for an awesome protest of some sort against China’s human rights violations.
Or maybe something for Tibet?
Maybe something along like this:

Anything to get the news media stirred up and China pissed.

I wanna watch the Olympics, but I don’t have cable. Does anyone know if it’s possible to stream certain events live over the internet?
Nah…I can’t stream anything off NBC.com in Canada, which is fucked. CBC has the exclusive broadcasting rights here, and they generally are a bit less “patriotic” in which events they choose to show. Anyway, I just thought there might be some kind of official Olympic site that might stream the events over the internet.
What do you mean you can’t stream anything off of NBC.com in Canada?
That’s sounds crazy to me.
I know youtube will be offically posting stuff so check that out.
But NBC.com will be streaming everything.

The reason why you wouldn’t do this is because Canada has CBC who’s coverage of the Olympics is about ten billion times better than NBC’s. If you lived up there you wouldn’t even WANT to stream anything off their terrible coverage.
Seriously, I feel sorry for Olympics fans who only can watch the NBC coverage…it’s dreadful. CBC shows events live, don’t disgust you with endless feel-good stories and show the ENTIRE events and not just portions of them with just the USA parts shown.
Anyway, I’m really only interested in the basketball so that’s what I’ll try to watch. The only problem is every game will probably be on at 4am or something so I’ll never get to see it live and I’ll hear who won on the radio before I ever get to see the replay so it’s kind of ruined for me. I kind of like Olympic boxing too but I can’t even remember the last time they showed it on any channel so it might as well not exist.
For team USA, I saw warning signs against Australia. Yeah, they won, but Australia did the simple tactic of really boxing in the zone under the basket and forcing the USA guys to just jack up jumpers. This is the exact same way that USA got beat at the last Olympics…we had no low-post guy then and all our guys did was jack up ugly jumpers and try one-on-one plays. With a well-coached team we could see this tactic used a lot against us since it’s effective. Yeah, Dwight Howard’s good down low but he’s not a big offensive threat…this team may miss Amare Stoudemire not going more than people think. The only dude who could penetrate in that game was Chris Paul so maybe with a real scoring point guard this year, he’ll change things. He could single-handedly save this USA Team this year.
Plus I love how the International refs don’t call the ticky-tack garbage that these superstars have called for them all the time in the States plus they don’t even listen to complaints from the players. I wish the NBA would take notes on this stuff. It ends up hurting Team USA more than anyone else, but I still enjoy seeing a game called correctly. No more bailing out LeBron when he bumps someone in the lane.
Watch out for team Spain too…they’re pretty stacked. Marc Gasol, Calderon, Juan Carlos Navarro…I think Pau gasol’s there too but I didn’t see him play. Should be interesting…this thing isn’t going to be automatic by any stretch of the word.

I’ve always understood and respected the Olympics for the competition and the history of the games, but I’ve never really been into them…and I’m a huge sports fan. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve gotten a little older, but for whatever reason this time I am really looking forward to them. I want to watch the opening ceremonies tomorrow night and get a feel for the pageantry and spectacle of the Olympics.
I have always liked the track and field, women’s gymnastics, and this year the women’s beach volleyball looks hawt! is that new? I have always wondered how the USA has failed to win in basketball the last few times, so I might check some of that out. But yeah, this year I’m really looking forward to the games. Should be fun, as long as everybody just competes, and leaves the politics out of it.
Damn I wish I had seen this live!

Man, I watched the one Canadian boxer in the Olympics get the shit beat out of him by this Khazikstanian (sp?). It was a BEATING. 20-1 was the final score. He was leading 10-0 after the first round. Best thing I’ve seen so far. Oh, and I’m not sure if it’s regionlocked or anything like the NBC site for Canadians, but check out the Olympic coverage on www.cbc.ca if they’re not showing any events you want to watch on NBC.
LOL. I saw this too. Even better the Canadian channel on CBC cut right to this fight since he’s the only boxer the Canadians had in the Olympics. EVen worse, they didn’t even give the Khazik guy a bunch of points that he should have had out of mercy for the Canadian guy. Hilarious.
Strangely I was VERY pleased with NBC since on CNBC they had three hour slots of nothing but boxing on both Saturday and Sunday. That rocked…I’d never been able to see any before. Plus I found myself watching the weird sports like water polo and handball and such. Plus I saw Team USA pound China and it was strange since Yao showed FAR more emotion and excitement for his team in that 30-point blowout than I’ve ever seen him show on the Rockets. T-Mac was probably sitting at home saying “What the hell?”

^ Water Polo is awesome. I used to play myself all through high school. I haven’t seen any yet this year, but I played with a couple of guys who actually made it to Beijing, so I’d totally like to check out team canada.
I am loving the coverage on these Olympics…
6 channels!! woohoo!!
An all soccer(football) and an all basketball(basketball) channel works wonders.
I’ve been really into the Olympics. I didn’t think I would be, but I ran out at 10:15 last night in the middle of work to the closest TV so I could see Phelps dominate again. I don’t think I’m alone, but I’m pretty captivated by this guy. He’s amazing. The race was over after the jump in the pool. He already had a pretty decent lead. And the night before…Whoa!!! That Relay win against the French. Awesome. I found myself celebrating as if I was apart of it.
Oh and I’m narrowminded so I like that NBC just focuses on Team USA. It is funny though. We see Team USA and our closest competitors…like China in gymnastics. If you get a chance I think the girls gymnastics final is on tonight. Watch it and listen to the announcers. The color guy is hilarious. I mean how he sees the slight movements and whatnot is crazy. Looks like a perfect execution and the guy is critiquing it left and right. Who is it Bart Connor or something?
Oh and why was Team USA mens gymnastics winning the bronze such a big deal. I turned on the tube after work and they were interviewing the whole team and celebrating as if they won the Gold. I’m assuming we weren’t supposed to medal, but let’s not get carried away with a bronze boys.
Any medal is good, right?
Better than nothing…
I just cannot get myself to care about any of this.
at all.
